Donald Malarkey was an NCO in E Company, 506th PIR during World War II. Neither his rank nor his awards qualify him for an article under WP:SOLDIER. Post-War, he had a variety of jobs and served as a county commissioner in his home county in Oregon. He and a partner conducted a series of motivational lectures until Malarkey retired from public appearances in 2012. His notability is inherited from his membership in E Company. • Keep. Rank and awards are irrelevant, since that's not what his notability is based on: WP:SOLDIER is not the only notability standard, it's subservient to WP:GNG. Going solely by what's in the article, he's part of a best-selling history book, a major character in a TV dramatization of his experiences, the subject of a nationally broadcast obituary, AND had his memoirs published by St. Martin's Press. So yeah, definitely passes WP:GNG. -- Calton | Talk 02:06, 10 February 2018 (UTC) reply
  • Keep Notable rank and has significance due to awards and notability from book and series. Well sourced as well. -- TDKR Chicago 101 ( talk) 02:16, 10 February 2018 (UTC) reply
  • Weak keep - His fame is inherited from his membership in Easy Company, and Wiktionary:notabilityWikipedia:notability. He was a pretty key part of the BoB universe, both as a soldier and as a memoirist and speaker. For an idea how widely his obituary was published, here is the newspapers.com search results for his name on the month he died: https://www.newspapers.com/search/#query=%22donald+malarkey%22&ym=2017-10, which gives 31 matches. Another 100+ articles mention him or are about him from searches of his name and variations thereupon. Those articles are almost all related to his role in the BoB universe or membership in Easy Company, but they often are in-depth about him as a principle member. • Keep. SOLDIER merely creates a presumption of notability for individuals who meet criteria - it does not indicate an individual is non-notable. The reason for coverage is irrelevant in terms of assessing GNG (if it were - we should move to strike all the models and reality-TV personalities), so the reason of the coverage being BoB is irrelevant. This guy's death was widely covered (e.g. Guardian Boston Globe, and many others) which is typically a sign of notability, and a cursory BEFORE shows significant pre-death coverage. • Delete the company he was in may be notable, but he is not notable as an individual. John Pack Lambert ( talk) 03:56, 12 February 2018 (UTC) reply
  • Weird, all the sources above seem to disagree with you. Is there any human on Earth who meets your standards for meriting a Wikipedia article? -- Calton | Talk 11:30, 14 February 2018 (UTC) reply
