Another GNIS sourced to Rennick but not in Rennick's county directory situation. Unusual name makes this easy to search for, and frankly not really finding much of anything in RS. Topos show a couple buildings and some cemeteries along the railroad. My guess is maybe some sort of battle or skirmish happened here, but information on such a potential event is hard to turn up with no idea who or when the fighting took place. This doesn't seem to be notable or even really verifiable. Hog Farm Talk 17:19, 24 May 2021 (UTC) reply

  • I've been through all sorts of things including the Lawrence county cemetery list, and tried the obvious possible Brown's Defeat mis-spelling. The fact that this unusual place name sourced to Rennick is not in Rennick's own book of unusual Kentucky place names ( ISBN  9780813146140) is rather telling. I half suspect a copyright trap. We cannot trust the GNIS record to more than identify a dot on a map, and there's simply nothing else documenting this that I can find. I even found Rennick's manuscript for placenames beginning with "B", and it isn't in it. Rennick made a dot on a map, and only the dot apparently exists. This is unverifiable. • Here is Rennick's map. The full annotation is "BROWS DEFEAT (N) (1876)". I've checked Rennick 2000l and Rennick 2016l and there's no "Brows" in them. Uncle G ( talk) 07:20, 28 May 2021 (UTC) reply
