Sheilas' Wheels is a brand of car insurance for women. The name Sheilas' (including the apostrophe) comes from the Australian expression of using a woman's name to refer to all women 1. The Sheilas' Wheels TV advert is well recognised in the UK for the song and the girls in a pink open-top car.

The car insurance is offered to women-only because the company claims women are lower risk drivers than men 2.

Sheilas' Wheels is a division of esure, however esure also provides car insurance for men as well (but not for men-only).

Ad astra per aspera means 'to the stars through difficulties' and is the state motto of Kansas ( USA ).

"TO the stars through stars" means figuratively "Greatness is only achieved by surmounting problems."

Virgil wrote in _Aeneid_ Book 9:

Macte nova virtute, sic itur ad astra. (Blessings on your young courage, boy; that's the way to the stars.)

The motto of the Mulvany family "Per ardua ad astra" (Through struggles to the stars) has become that of the Royal Air Force in 1913.

The Royal Air Force did not exist in 1913 - its predessor was the Royal Flying Corps (RFC).

The following extract is taken from the Royal Air Force Website.

"The Royal Air Force Motto "Per Ardua ad Astra"

As far as can be ascertained, the motto of the Royal Air Force dates back to 1912 and the formation of the Royal Flying Corps (RFC). The first Commanding Officer of the RFC (Military Wing) was Colonel Frederick Sykes. He asked his officers to come up with a motto for the new service; one which would produce a strong esprit de corps.

Shortly after this, two junior officers were walking from the Officers' Mess at Farnborough to Cody's Shed on Laffan Plain. As they walked, they discussed the problem of the motto and one of them, JS Yule, mentioned the phrase "Sicictar ad Astra", from the Virgilian texts. He then expanded on this with the phrase "Per Ardua ad Astra", which he translated as, "Through Struggles to the Stars". Colonel Sykes approved of this as the motto and forwarded it to the War Office. It was then submitted to the King, who approved its adoption.

The question of where this motto had come from can be answered by he fact that Yule had read it in a book called "People of the Mist" by Sir Henry Rider Haggard. In the first chapter was the passage, "To his right were two stately gates of iron fantastically wrought, supported by stone pillars on whose summit stood griffins of black marble embracing coats of arms and banners inscribed with the device 'Per Ardua ad Astra'".

As to where Sir Rider Haggard obtained this phrase is still unclear although it is possible that it originated from the Irish family of Mulway who had used it as their family motto for hundreds of years and translated it as "Through Struggles to the Stars"."

In the Levitation that David Blaine performs (known as the Balducci levitation - originated by Ed Balducci),you can not be surrounded and have to watch your angles very closely. Even though the spectator sees two legs together from behind, one is a fake leg. He is actually balancing on his other leg in front. From behind, it looks totally awesome. is the idea really his? No, he has taken an illusion from years ago and brought it to the new age! To learn exactly how to make the special somethings to make this possible, you will have to purchase his DVD like I did. Standard is a village located in the southern part of the province of Alberta, Canada. It is situated within the County of Wheatland, approximately 80 kilometers east of the city of Calgary. Its current population is approximately 380 residents. The village was originally settled by Danish immigrants. Standard's economy is based on the surrounding farming community and the energy industry, with a number of oil and gas rigs in operation in the vicinity. Chief employers include Agrium Liquid Fertilizer, which operates a manufacturing plant, and the Husky Oil Plant.

Standard is best known in Alberta for the tragic and well-publicized abduction and murder of one of its residents, 15-year old Kelly Cook, in 1981. The Grade 10 student regularly babysat for townsfolk, and on the morning of April 22, she received a phone call from a man who identified himself as Bill Christensen. He asked her to babysit for him that evening. She agreed, and early that evening, a car pulled up in front of the house where she lived with her parents and siblings. The driver did not leave his car, and Kelly walked out of her house and climbed into the automobile, which promptly drove off. A few hours later, her anxious parents, concerned that Kelly had not called or returned home, called the RCMP. A massive local search was launched but yielded no clues. Two months after her abduction, on June 28, her badly decomposed body was discovered in Chin Lakes, southeast of her hometown of Standard. Despite the publicity this murder case generated, and a $100,000 reward offered by the Village of Standard for information leading to the arrest of Kelly's killer, the case still has not been solved. It may go down as one of the greatest unsolved murder cases in Alberta's history.

Claire Noonan is a girl that I know. She sure has lots of spunk, boy oh boy. She's always doing lots of hilarious things. There was this one time, well I guess you'd have to be there. I guess you just have to know her. But she's lovely, even though she seems to try to fit herself into the smallest spaces available, and jerks her head all around. Nice girl.
