Visitors to Guyana must obtain a visa from one of the Guyanese diplomatic missions unless they are citizens of one of the visa-exempt countries or citizens who may obtain a visa on arrival.

All visitors must have a passport valid for at least 6 months.

Visa exemption

Holders of passports of the following countries and territories may enter Guyana without a visa for the following period: [1] [2] [3]

ID - May enter Guyana through Lethem by land and travel as far as Annai using an ID card in lieu of a passport. A passport is required to travel elsewhere in Guyana. [6]

Visas are not required for citizens of any country with a document stating that they were born in Guyana, or for children under age 18 born to citizens of Guyana if holding a birth certificate or parents' passport. [3]

Substitute visa

Citizens of the following countries may enter Guyana without a visa for up to 90 days if they have a valid visa issued by any member state of Schengen Area, Canada or the United States: [2] [3]

Non-ordinary passports

Holders of diplomatic, official or service passports of Bolivia, Georgia, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela; holders of diplomatic, official or special passports of Bangladesh, Haiti; holders of diplomatic, service and special passports of Egypt, Turkey; holders of diplomatic and official passports of Guatemala; holders of diplomatic and service passports of Cape Verde, China, Cyprus, India, Israel; and holders of diplomatic and special passports of Iran may enter Guyana without a visa.

Holders of passports for public affairs of China may enter Guyana without a visa.

Visa on arrival

Citizens of the following countries may obtain a visa on arrival:

Citizens of any country traveling as tourists with an approval letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs of Guyana may also obtain a visa on arrival for up to 30 days. They may also apply to extend their stay. [3]

Citizens of any country with a confirmation that a business, employment or student visa has been issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs of Guyana before departure may also obtain a visa on arrival. [3]

Visa-free transit

Travellers holding onward tickets may transit without a visa through airports in Guyana for 7 hours (except citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, China, Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam).
