Hi DJ -- Sorry to bother you, I know you're a busy guy. I'm not sure if you've seen the note I posted a few days ago at User_talk:TheDJ/HotCat, but I'd be very interested in seeing your reply. Mostly I'm just wondering what we might expect at some future point, when you have the time to work on upgrading the code. As I said, the edit summary issue is the most immediate concern -- hopefully changing the default would only require a fairly simple tweak. Anyway, thanks again for making it available for us to use. Great job with this little tool. I think you'll see a jump in usership over the next couple days, as I've just informed everyone who was using {{ Statustop}} that they should use this for the time being due to SoxBot V's untimely demise. Question: is it possible to catch the window while it's being closed and ask the user if they would like to update themselves to offline? xenocidic ( talk ¿ listen ) 14:10, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Can you please help me with HotCat gadget on sr: wikipedia. Problem is that we have two (three) names for special page "Category", it's default English "Category", Serbian Cyrillic "Категорија" and Serbian Latin "Kategorija". The problem is that when i try to remove category with name Kategorija or Category i got error that category doesn't exit. I put in your gadget code default name for categories is "Категорија" because it's most used on sr: wiki. Can you please change your code that we can be able to use more then one name for this special page names. Thanks and best regards. -- Sasa Stefanovic • 06:24, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I would like to use this cool tool in the Hebrew Wikipedia. I thus coppied the text to he:משתמש:Yonidebest/monobook.js/temp4.js and translated the two button captions, error and notice msgs and the "Category" into Hebrew. I tried to use it, but it doesn't work well. The links and buttons are all there, but the suggestion list doesn't apear as smoothly and fast enough when typing text into the textbox. I tried to lower the hotcat_suggestion_delay parameter, but it didn't help. Any suggestions? Yonidebest Ω Talk 19:19, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Please excuse me for leaving a message on your Commons page. That was the first message I have ever left there and I thought it worked like Wikipedia. I did not realize that you wanted no comments there.
My complaint: You should not move images from Wikipedia to the Commons when the result is that the image gets deleted from the Wikipedia article in which it was placed. This is what happened as soon as you moved Image:Yarlung Tsangpo river tibet.jpg from Wikipedia to the Commons and deleted the image on Wikipedia. After you moved it, the image was then deleted completely from the article, Yarlung Tsangpo River (Tibet), at Wikipedia by a bot that deletes mention of deleted images from articles. Fortunately I noticed this. I searched for the image on the Commons in order to reinsert it into the article but the search came up empty. Fortunately again, someone at the Village Pump was able to find the image by using Google and put it back into the article. (Good lesson for me - use Google and not Search on the Commons.)
I wonder how many times this has happened and no one has noticed the image deletion in the article and the image is lost forever to the Wikipedia article. – Mattisse ( Talk) 16:22, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm also getting the "Clear your Special:MyPage/Status" message. I made sure I was not using cache (never have) and ctrl-refreshed the page in my browser. I'm using Windows XP SP2 and Mozilla Firefox 3. My /Status page looks pretty blank to me. Dj HaQ ( talk) 02:45, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Qui is a very cool script, but I found a bug with it. I browse and edit using the secure Wikipedia, which has URLs in the form: https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Article ("en" being the language code). Since Qui isn't aware of this, it mishandles some redirects, for example, by sending me to https://secure.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Example, which doesn't exist, instead of the correct https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/User:Example, after I add a contact. A secondary result of this, too, is that https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/User:Example/QuiWatchers isn't created, so those users aren't aware I'm watching them.
I've also noticed it sometimes showing an evil dialog box, with something about JSON and a contact name, when the server returns some error message (such as proxy unavailable, time outs etc.) while checking the status of people in my contact list. So, I've a small feature request: that the script simply retry the page load if an error happens, and that it fail gracefully (no dialog boxes) when the 2nd attempt doesn't work.
Thanks! -- alexgieg ( talk) 13:20, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey. I have noticed you work a lot with NASA pictures at Wiki Commons. Can you help me with an issue? The picture Antarctic Temperature Trend 1982-2004 was tagged by an user in a way that I consider a clear WP:OR violation, as the picture is still posted in the NASA Earth Observation site, the original source, and I do not think any editor has the right to "censor" images in this way. I try to re-upload the original image (check the pic history) but the tag is superimposed in such a way that my effort was worthless. Can you give a tip of what to do. Thanks. User:Xenocidic recommended I ask you... do you think there is any way to build a timer into the QUI code that checks the date/time of your last edit and changes your status automatically?
e.g. check every 2 minutes...
last edit less than 5 minutes ago = online,
last edit 5-30 minutes ago = busy,
last edit 30-120 minutes ago = sleep,
last edit >120 minutes ago = offline

Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{ motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.
When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.
If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold ( t/ a/ c) 01:42, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Hiya. I've had an idea for a useful tool: a little popup (without having to install popups) that contains shortcut links for within WP. For example, I could mouse over the WP logo and up would pop a list (defined by me in a subpage in userspace) of the links I use daily. I suspect it would be relatively trivial to code this, but I know approximately less than nothing about writing js. Would this be simple, and if so would you be interested in doing it? Cheers. Hi,
Rather than undoing multiple template revisions, please raise the issue with me first in future and I'll try to fix it. I don't agree that having a "preview" in the template page is actually necessary if the documentation if written properly, but it's trivial to accommodate this, and I've now done so. I've been working a bit on the spacewalk list article, in hope of returning it to featured list status. A few days ago you made a big to that article. That edit was helpful, and I was planning to do something very similar in a while. But the your edit increased the size of the article. It is now one of the 500 largest articles on Wikipedia. I do not think a very large article will be allowed become a Feature List article. I wonder if you would like to help bring this article back to Featured status? I started a discussion on the article talk page, perhaps you could add to the discussion. Do you think the article will have to be split?

Hey DJ, something that's struck me as "off" about Qui ever since I started using it is the fact that it uses two different pages for the friends functionality: QuiFriends is populated with the names of those you've added to your friends list, and QuiWatchers is what it links to. I am absolutely sure the facts are correct, and the passage is relevant as an explanation of a rule that has since been abolished. Falk-Larssen did win three distances, and that was why he won the championship. He also had more points. Had he not won three distancs, he would have had to have less (!) points to win.

Yes, I have tried your Qui as well and it works absolutely fine. It's actually an easier way to show your status in my opinion. And it's interesting that you can see friends status as well. You can thank Xenocidic for telling me about this. Best Regards.-- Ezekiel †alk 17:51, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I had an idea, and
User:Xenocidic recommended I ask you... do you think there is any way to build a timer into the QUI code that checks the date/time of your last edit and changes your status automatically?
e.g. check every 2 minutes...
last edit less than 5 minutes ago = online,
last edit 5-30 minutes ago = busy,
last edit 30-120 minutes ago = sleep,
last edit >120 minutes ago = offline

Hi DJ!

Wouldn't it just be simpler to use QuiFriends for both roles, and thus eliminate one page, or do you have something else planned for QuiWatchers? 「 ダイノ ガイ 千?!」(Dinoguy1000) 23:00, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

I am absolutely sure the facts are correct, and the passage is relevant as an explanation of a rule that has since been abolished. Falk-Larssen did win three distances, and that was why he won the championship. He also had more points. Had he not won three distancs, he would have had to have less (!) points to win. (Note the rest of the ranking in the source I gave. You should be able to find the same thing at [1]) (oops, I meant [2]) So he won despite more points.
