Not sure what you'd like me to clarify. No consensus means exactly that. There is no consensus to delete the article. If people want to talk about a merge, that doesn't require continued discussion of the AfD and an AfD is not required to blunt force consensus on merging/redirecting. What the fate of the material is should be dicussed on the talk page, or with projects to look for consensus. While re-nominating articles is not productive, no AfD outcome precludes that from being done. There was no consensus in that six-week old AfD - the material should be kept and it's up for editors to decide where (i.e. straight keep v. merge v. other) the material is to live. Make sense? It was a "retroactive test case" as I read the nom, but my issue with that -- not just as it applies to this article but "test case" AfDs as a whole is that what applies in one case may or may not old true for other possibly related articles. There may be an episode that's different to others, or a road in a city that is notable where others are not (I'm thinking of a recent round of AfDs on streets in Dublin). There was no consensus to delete that article and the discussion reflected that. I'm well aware of the issues around nominations of fiction/tv AfDs but the reality is, most of these don't belong at AfD because history has shown there won't be a consensus to delete them. Merge or redirect, maybe, but I can't think of too many that closed as delete and weren't overturned. These topics need discussing -- but that doesn't require AfD. I'm not certain how I can clarify that further in the closing statement. Do you have any particular ideas? StarM 15:54, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

With all respect, SM, I think you may have erred in your closing of this AfD. Even though I was the nominator, it looked to me, at the very least, like the Keeps had the upper hand by far, both in terms of the number of !votes and the momentum. I would perhaps suggest reopening and/or relisting this. This is just a suggestion; I'm not a sysop and don't pretend to know how to make these decisions. It's just how I see things. No consensus to delete is, by default, a keep. AfDs are not done by vote or momentum but strength of argument and reasoning behind it. Since a no-consensus to delete is a keep, I don't see the need to re-open or relist. Can you explain why you think that's needed? StarM 04:52, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

While I do understand that an NC outcome means the article is kept, I had hoped that there would be an official record that a consensus had been reached. I listed it having made the point that it was a planned cleanup project for me, but that I wasn't sure that he met WP:NOTE, and I was and am unwilling to invest the time in an article that might easily be deleted. If a Delete consensus had developed, the issue would be moot, and if a Keep consensus had occurred, I'd feel more secure in the knowledge that I wouldn't have to worry about someone coming along later and trying to delete it again. Oh, sure, I realize that someone still can put an article on AfD after it's survived one AfD, but one of the first arguements that would be made would be "We already debated that and there was a consensus to Keep, he is notable." Anyway, it's not a big deal to me at all, I know there's lots more important things out there for us to deal with, I just was explaining my reasoning. Ack, just saw this. Yep, I get MLB and NFL networks. (and tennis and golf and nhl and Big10 and like 47 espn's...) NFL is nice, got to see most of the otherwise unbroadcast Thurs. night games. Slacker :p Don't think I've heard a Childress interview, though I probably did when he was with the Birds. I swear half the people should have it in their contracts for an incentive *not* to be interviewed. There's a reason they're playing, not spokespeople. Some make a good transition to media: I like Boomer on Sunday mornings - and Strahan pleasantly surprised me. Tiki didn't, he's got that kind of oomph. The only current player who I think is a really good interview is Shaun O'Hara - he's well prepped and speaks well. I haven't found MLBN uet but I loved their hot stove. I'm going to look into whether it's possible to add on. I concur with the 97 ESPNs and 42 HBOs. Really, digital just means it takes longer to find out there's nothing on. Monday nights without Monday Night Football have been weird. The odd thing for me... I don't watch much baseball beyonf the Yankees -- but I can and often did watch 4 football games a week, 5 in the one week I got the Jets on Thursday. Odd Odd Odd. Baseball I love my Yankees but don't really enjoy watching other teams play. Your boys game it a good run -- good talent in Tavaris Jackson and Adrian Peterson (though the latter makes me feel very old)... The sniping between Jackson adn the Center was sad. You just closed an AfD on St. Lawrence with St. Paul's, Kirkdale with the decision to redirect to Kirkdale, Merseyside#Places of Worship. I fully agree. Question: I have come across this type of AfD three times lately, and twice have made a "Places of Worship" section in the town entry, as was done here, then have done a quick search and added the more obvious list entries with a brief description and link. E.g.

• St. Patrick's Cathedral - Roman Catholic (211 Archibald St S). The old St. Patrick's Church was built in 1893. In 1963 it was replaced by the current cathedral on the same site. website

Hmm, good question. I personally don't think there's anything wrong with it because as its own article we'd have allowed an external link. I also think it goes along with the idea that if John Q Reader is looking for information on the church - the re-direct helps them find it and the information you add enhances that. So I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but that's not exactly based in policy and I can see others probably having a different opinion. I read LT's book. Its great - its the athlete equivalent of a Motley Crue's "The Dirt". Doesn't hurt that he's in my top 5 favorite athletes of all time. Thread hijacking appears to be the most recent incarnation, Thread Hijacking was just a re-direct. It was deleted after an AfD but I've userfied it to User:DonDiego/Thread hijacking. You'll need to find some reliable sources that establish notability and I suggest bringing it to WP:DRV prior to restoring as yet another re-creation is likely to result in salting. There was no content whatsoever. Nothing. Encouraging him to work in mainspace is fine but only when there's content. Page under construction is not content. There is no reason for a non-article to be created. Work on it in mainspace only when there's an article to work on, until then it does not belong in mainspace. There's nothing wrong with working in userspace until there's material for others to work on. I'm happy to let stubs or small articles grow, this was neither. I see what you're saying, but encouraging him to work in mainspace is not going to have a positive effect if the material is not ready for mainspace. Having something deleted over and over again is not helpful, but neither is creating articles that are not articles. I'd be happy to offer to userfy -- but there's nothing to userfy. There was no article. I'm all about helping newbies, but I don't think encouraging the creation of articles outside userspace is the best course of action. Thoughts? I imagine him wondering where it went, and getting an inconsistent message: "Edit in mainspace!" "Don't edit in mainspace until it's ready!" Waiting a few days before deletion would have harmed nobody, and would have given him a chance to DTRT. Honestly, there's no reason to write that in mainspace. Drafts should be created in userspace until they're ready for mainspace -- that one wasn't. They don't have to be perfect and polished, but there needs to be content. A lack of any content is a perfectly valid speedy and something I'd gather 99% of admins would have speedied. While I'm all about welcome newbies, they need to play within the accepted norms and creating a page that consists of no content, does not belong in mainspace and he should not be encouraged to do so - I don't believe in encouraging and fostering bad habits. I don't mentor -- but you or anyone else is willing to do so. I simply don't have the time I used to. Also if s/he's concerned, she needs to ask questions. That's just my .02. You're welcome to restore what was nothing more than an under construction and I won't speedy -- but I'll guarantee someone else will. That belongs in userspace, not mainspace. Why don't you want to stay with Winged First? Am I missing something? I think Sunnyside Historian could also be seen by some as too promotional. No need to delete the GAHS article, just continue to edit it with 3rd party citations and information to establish notability. You may also want to get involved with the museums project as well as registry of historic places, both of which have some focus on NY articles and where you may be able to help. While the Greater Astoria Historical Society does have museum type exhibits and artifacts, I'm not sure if it qualifies as a museum? The reason i set up a separate accounts is that all the edits I've made under Winged Fist are related to the Irish American Athletic Club or other athletic organizations. I'd like to have a separate login for edits I plan to make related to Queens history and a corresponding separate user page to keep these two subjects distinct. Is here any problem with doing this? I suggest reading WP:SOCK, especially the section on legit alternate accounts. There are admins who are far more experienced in this aspect than I am, I'm not really sure what the best course of action is. Regardless, I think you ought to clearly lable that your second account is an alternate account of your firt, if you choose to go down that path. I can't speak for NHRP, but as the founder of the museums wikiproject I can say we have a wide purvue of what's considered a museum and I definitely include historical societies. We incorporate a lot of what could be called cultural organizations, see also the properties of the Historic House Trust, though I'm not sure if any of those fall under GAHS' domain. I think the key is determining notability -- what kind of work does GAHS do, how is its work important. Does that help? StarM 03:32, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Star, I asked the original admin who flagged Exari to review, once I had added some more references and he agreed, but in the meantime you had deleted the page. He (Olly - see my talk page) agreed and suggested I refer you to Google search on Exari. The company has been involved in some significant XML standards setting, is the founder of an open source editor called Xerlin (in Wiipedia) and has pioneered the use of XML to legal documents and contracts. Hi Jamwod. Olly is not an admin, but rather an editor. While a google search does not determine notability, and the article as it existed does not demonstrate same, I have restored it to your userspace: User:Jamwod/Exari. You're welcome to work on it there but the article has been deleted not once, not twice, but three times. Re-creating it in the main space is likely to get it protected against re-creation. I suggest you work on it in userspace to add sources and other aspects that establish notability, especially as it applies to WP:CORP and WP:ORG. Happy to help you out if I can. Exari is a global leader doesn't establish notability either, though it might allow it to survive a speedy and go to AfD. References are key, as is demonstration of notability.
