Question from Ahmed Jusa (10:22, 30 January 2024)

Hello, mentor, what are the requirements for posting a wikipedia article. I made an article about a settlement I lived in during my childhood. I am wondering how can I publish it so everyone can read about it? -- Ahmed Jusa ( talk) 10:22, 30 January 2024 (UTC) reply

Question from Bosodeniro (15:15, 2 February 2024)

Okay I'm saying "hello" and asking my mentor "how do I do this"? If you're my mentor and you're listening to or monitoring me, I'm trying to edit an entry or citation about Ground Hog Day. Where and how do I start? -- Bosodeniro ( talk) 15:15, 2 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Hi Bosodeniro! If you would like to edit a page, like Groundhog Day, click on the "Edit" button on the top of the page, then make your changes and then click "Publish Changes". If you want to cite a wikipedia page in a school paper for example, click on "Tools" in the upper right of the page then click "Cite this Page", you will then be provided with multiple styles to cite the page. If you want to add a citation to a page, this info page will be of help. If that was not your question please let me know! v/r - Seawolf35 T-- C 15:38, 2 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Question from Scazzi (12:44, 5 March 2024)

Hello, I wish to edit the Wikipedia article on our family name/history, which is titled Scarisbrick. It implies that all spelling variations of our name devolve from the same village/town name e.g. Scarisbrick, Scaresbrick, Scaysbroke, etc. Whilst mostly this is true, and the town of Scarisbrick in Lancashire does date back to Domesday, and the Lord of the Manor takes their name from the town, the name Scaysbrook, whilst obviously phonetically similar, in fact has no link to that town, but to a small Dutch town, now part of Rotterdam, originally named Schiesbroek, but now the 's' (a form of Dutch apostrophe) has been dropped in favour of the modern spelling of Schiebroek. The translation is the 'brook of the River Schie.' So, Scarisbricks are a much older family. Scaysbrooks came over to East Anglia in the 16th century due to religious pogroms in Holland. They adopted the anglicised version Scaysbrook. How do I go about publishing a new 'Scaysbrook' article, separate from the Scarisbrick article? Sorry for the length of my question!! Reverted draftification

Hello. I wanted to let you know that I reversed your draftification of Los Picaos de San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The reason I did this is because articles older than 90 days should not be draftified without prior consensus at AfD, per WP:DRAFTIFY (point 2d). Hey man im josh ( talk) 19:27, 6 March 2024 (UTC) reply

@ Hey man im josh: True but WP:DRAFTIFY is an essay. People tend to forget that and I see admins doing it a good amount without consensus at AfD. That article is almost unreadable in its current state. IAR exists for a reason. v/r - Seawolf35 T-- C 19:48, 6 March 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Seawolf35: Draftify is an essay, but the point that I mentioned (2d) is not ( relevant RfC). IAR does exist for a reason, but many interpret draftification to be a potential backdoor to deletion. If the article is entirely unsuitable for main space and it's been over 90 days then you should PROD or AfD it. If you see other admins moving pages to draft space without a discussion, then it may be worth asking them why. Hey man im josh ( talk) 19:52, 6 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Question from Cavansyte on Draft:Tuva Halse (19:06, 8 March 2024)

Hi there. I think I need some help for a draft. I prepared this draft for the bio of an artist, I used a template for this, and I would like to save the draft to end it later before publishing. It is the first time I am preparing an article from scratch. I do not see how to save the draft, but there must be a way... I spent two hours to undetdand how to do that, it seems that I may need to create a subpage, which I have been unable to do... it seems very simple from what I can read in the many help pages I have read, but it just does not work... there must be something I miss... I think I need help from a human... -- Cavansyte ( talk) 19:06, 8 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Good Article reviews

Hi Seawolf! I noticed you recently reviewed Queensboro Bridge for GA as your first review. All GA reviews are supposed to contain a source spotcheck; the ongoing backlog drive requires that, so I don't believe you will receive any points for that review, and you may be asked to reopen it to finish the review. Something to bear in mind with Carlos de Villegas, which I see you have picked up. Best wishes, ~~ AirshipJungleman29 ( talk) 19:40, 22 March 2024 (UTC) reply

AirshipJungleman29 I did a source spot check and it checked out fine, I just didn't put it onto the review, I will make sure to include it in the future. I am not concerned with the points as well. I am going to be quick-failing Carlos de Villegas, it is a long way from meeting several of the GA criteria, so no spot check is necessary for that one. v/r - Seawolf35 T-- C 19:43, 22 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Hi Seawolf35. Yes, I'm a Wikipedia newbie, but not regarding online editing and I'm an experienced copywriter. Experience teaches you to recognize when you need help. Having said all that, I noticed an "undisclosed paid editor" COI violation regarding updating the Harry L. Williams article. What do I need to do to fix this? @ Sigridtx In terms of anything to disclose no. v/r - Seawolf35 T-- C 21:32, 1 April 2024 (UTC) reply
Thank you, Seawolf35. I have a couple more things in finalizing the Harry L. Williams article I've been working on.
  1. Citing the Subject's Family. Question: Does a well-known university website qualify as an independent, reliable source? Issue: A mention of Williams’ family (edited by AnomieBOT) was previously included with a [[cn]]. I removed it for lack of an independent, reliable source at the time. Source Considered: A bio of Williams on the Tuskegee University website related to him speaking at a Tuskegee convocation that mentions his wife and children.
  2. Links in References Section. Issue 1: A citation was removed by one of your editors, yet it still appears as the last link in the References section. In addition, it also appears below the "Presidents of Delaware State University" section between References and External Links. Question: How do I remove this since it's no longer linked in the article? Issue 2: The [1] format linked to the first citation appears below the links in the References section. Question: What might be causing this?
Much appreciation in advance! Sigridtx ( talk) 15:57, 4 April 2024 (UTC) reply

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Seawolf35,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Question from Will Wiki Editor (06:46, 7 April 2024)

Hello! I have been doing a little bit of extended research of prevalence of circumcision in the United States, and the page cites some outdated and inaccurate information. I have seen and documented other surveys that the rate is lower than we think. There is an independent doctors estimate that is cited, that with my research, I believe is inaccurate information. @ Will Wiki Editor Hi! For citations, see this page for help with formatting and such. Make sure, when you are editing, you comply with our policy of no original research.

Question from Vupini (23:06, 18 April 2024)

Hi Seawolf35, I'm currently trying to translate a page from Hebrew to English (because the page in English doesn't exist) and it's not letting me, is there anything I can do about that? -- Vupini ( talk) 23:06, 18 April 2024 (UTC) reply

Question from Vupini (13:04, 19 April 2024)

I translated a page from English to Hebrew and forgot to translate the title so it auto-translated it, it didn't let me change it afterwards so I retranslated the page, is there a way I can delete the original one because it's not correct? -- Vupini ( talk) 13:04, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply

@ Vupini Are you trying to use the content translation tool, if so, it is currently disabled for new users. v/r - Seawolf35 T-- C 13:07, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply
nope, I translated the page and it says it was published, it auto-translated the title and I didn't notice and accidentally published it this way, I couldn't find a way to delete it so I retranslated it and republished it but the original translation still exists. Is there a way I can delete it?
Never mind, I tried to add the link to the original translated article and I couldn't find it so I assume it was deleted automatically.

By the way, the content translation tool works if you try to translate something from English to another language, but not the other way around. Vupini ( talk) 14:43, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Vupini Where are you trying to do this, I see no edits relating to translation in your edit history. v/r - Seawolf35 T-- C 14:46, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply
That's probably because you're checking the English Wikipedia and that's on the Hebrew one.
Here's the link to the translation - translation. Vupini ( talk) Vupini ( talk) 14:56, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply

Just wanted to make sure you're aware of my warning at the above SPI. And to be clear, the warning covers your tagging accounts as socks, which I see you've done in the past.-- Bbb23 ( talk) 20:38, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply

@ Bbb23 I am aware, the only time I could have “tagged” an account is reverting the sock tag removal from a sockpuppet of a master that received a warning for socking. v/r - Seawolf35 T-- C 21:05, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply
You're right, my bad.-- Bbb23 ( talk) 21:08, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Bbb23 Now, I have removed tags from a non-clerk/CU/admin trying to tag all the piermark socks. v/r - Seawolf35 T-- C 21:11, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply
What was that? Some diffs?-- Bbb23 ( talk) 21:13, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Bbb23 User:James Baber AcademyApologia confirm strong connection between Mormonism and Adventism is one such example, there are more. v/r - Seawolf35 T-- C 21:19, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply
Thanks (sigh).-- Bbb23 ( talk) 21:22, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Bbb23 If you also look in Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Piermark, you will find a significant amount of the ~224 socks listed there were tagged by non admins/clerks/CUs. v/r - Seawolf35 T-- C 21:23, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply
That doesn't make it right.-- Bbb23 ( talk) 22:12, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply
Not the point I was trying to make. v/r - Seawolf35 T-- C 22:55, 19 April 2024 (UTC) reply

Question from Sasha.kravtsov on Carbon dioxide in Earth's atmosphere (08:12, 23 April 2024)

The article claims raise of co2 from 280 to 421 ppm, and summarises that it is 50% which is clearly (from these numbers) wrong. (421-280)/421= 33.5% I am a noob in editing Wikipedia, so I didn't find any place to add comments or explanations for my fix. Is there any? -- Sasha.kravtsov ( talk) 08:12, 23 April 2024 (UTC) reply

@ Sasha.kravtsov You can explain what you did in the edit summary of your edit. Additionally you can also explain what you did on the talk page of the article. v/r - Seawolf35 T-- C 12:14, 23 April 2024 (UTC) reply
