Baltic mythologies

I have raised some questions at Talk:Latvian mythology which are I think relevant. Like I said there, I am going to have to check the reliable sources, but I am beginning to seriously question how much of this material is primarily "Latvian mythology" and how much of it is perhaps better called "Baltic mythology". By saying this, I acknowledge that there are seemingly at least one, perhaps more, Baltic new religious movements, as they are referenced in the Jones EoR as well, and that these groups might perhaps have different views as to what the earlier religions were. The article in that source on "Baltic Religion: New Religious Movements" in particular leads me to have some questions. I regret saying this, but I am a German, and I remember how Richard Wagner worked hard to help develop a specifically German identity after the formation of a common German state. I am beginning to wonder, based on the material I have seen, whether the same thing might not be happening in the Baltic states. This includes our articles on Baltic mythology, Lithuanian mythology, Estonian mythology, and Latvian mythology. I don't know that right now, but I do have that suspicion, and I think it is something I am going to have to check to verify how pronounced the historical differences between the various mythologies of the Baltic states actually are. There are instances of the same god being given different names in other areas as well, and I am not sure how much that might apply here as well. Like I said, I will check early next week, but I do think it is important to check. John Carter ( talk) 23:50, 19 July 2012 (UTC) reply

Probably the best reference source on "religion" in general is the Lindsay Jones Encyclopedia of Religion. Many or most of the articles relevant to Baltic mythology in that source are also available at the HighBeam Research website, and possibly elsewhere on the web as well. The article on Baltic NRMs seems to me particularly relevant to this discussion, unfortunately. I'm not sure if you have access to the HighBeam site, or whether the articles are available elsewhere, but, if you want me to forward the articles I can find to you, send me an e-mail with your address and I will have the site send them to that address. Hi, John. I think that would be very helpful. Where can I find your email address? Matt ( talk) 20:41, 24 July 2012 (UTC) reply
Sorry about that. If you go to either my user page or user talk page you should find a link in the "toolbox" section, generally on the left, "E-mail this user". Hit that, and send me pretty much anything, and I will see your return e-mail address and be able to have the site send you the articles it has. John Carter ( talk) 20:49, 24 July 2012 (UTC) reply

A lot of these articles are probably too long to mine, actually. But they should establish at least a few references for a lot of content related to the topic. Hello, BarkingFish. Thanks for tagging the page I accidentally created for speedy deletion. I have changed the speedy deletion tag from a "vandalism" tag to a "technical deletion" tag. I accidentally created the page when attempting to edit User:Matt Heard/Latvian mythology/Source mining/Archaeologia BALTICA/The Latvian Mythological Space in Scholarly Time by clicking on an {{empty section}} template link. I'll remove those templates from my user page because they refer to the main article space and don't work as intended in my user space. I intended to tag the page for speedy deletion immediately, but was suddenly called away on another matter. I hope you don't mind that I removed the vandalism tag. I wasn't trying to hide any of my misdeeds, but was merely trying to identify the article as being an incorrectly created page due to a mistake in the namespace. WikiProject Biography banner

As with everything else around here, there are some rules to adding parameters to the WikiProject Biography banners. Leave out spaces between around the = sign. Some parameters, such as listas, use the space as an actual character. For example listas = Doe, John is sorted differently than listas=Doe, John. Also on listas, need to leave out the accents. listas=Tizón, Héctor should be listas=Tizon, Hector. WP:NAMESORT has all the rules for listas. There are thousands of rules around here. Don't worry, you will not know every rule and will mess up. Nobody can know all the rules. I still mess up after all these years. Give a yell on my talk page if you ever have questions. No, they are rendered the same. But the accents need to be removed. Generally, most people leave off spaces on talk page parameters. If a bot edits the talk page, it will remove the spaces. Page Creation help getting them set up and citations approved

Hi I was Re-Directed to Message you from the BgWhite page which i'm assuming is you?

If my assumption is correct then you may recall putting a speedy deletion on the Mike "2of5" Martin Page which I created. I had all the permissions from Mike himself to create the page on his behalf and he did say if any proof was needed for citations then he would be more than happy to provide it.

I did try to explain that to you but the page was deleted anyway. I figured rather than keep creating the page over and over having it speedy deleted etc I'd ask you guys to help.

you mentioned a guy by the user name of Werldwayd? That knows more about music pages. I tried searching him up but didn't find his page, Hence messaging you.

If you can Help with any this please let me know asap as I'd like to get the balling rolling and get the page up & running again within the regulations of Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LinnieKing ( talkcontribs) 11:32, 9 September 2012 (UTC) reply

Hi, LinnieKing. I am not the person you are looking for. I have no involvement with editing or deleting Mike "2of5" Martin, but am happy to try to answer any questions you might have.
  1. You may have accidentally been redirected to my page because I have a {{talkback}} tag on User:Bgwhite's talk page. This means that User:Bgwhite and I have had a conversation on my talk page and I left a notice for him on his talk page to let him know that I had replied to him. We were discussing an article unrelated to you or Mike "2of5" Martin. You can learn more about the talkback tag here.
  2. I didn't nominate your article for speedy deletion. If you visit the article, it will present you with an empty box to (re-)start writing. There is also a section with a red background called "A page with this title has previously been deleted." This section gives you a basic history of why the article was deleted.
    1. Mike "2of5" Martin was moved to Mike Martin (American guitarist) by User:Werldwayd.
    2. Mike Martin (American guitarist) was deleted because it contained copyrighted material with no credible assertion of public domain, fair use, or a compatible free license. ( Wikipedia:Criteria for Speedy Deletion#G12)
  3. User:Bgwhite has outlined the steps you can take to prove that you have permission to use the copyrighted material. The text of your article should be written in your own words rather than being copied and pasted into Wikipedia. This will make it easier for others to use the article outside of Wikipedia without violating the copyright of the original text.
  4. This is the link to Werldwayd's user page. You can find him in the future by searching for "User:Werldwayd", or by searching for "Werldwayd" and clicking "Everything" to search across all Wikipedia pages.
  5. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask me. I'll be happy to try to answer them or point you towards somebody who can. New editors like you are really important for helping Wikipedia grow as a useful resource.
