Please unblock me !

Hello L235 I am very concerned as to why I seem to have been blocked by you: I have been an honest Wikipedia editor since 2013. I have very little knowledge of IT (though considerable knowledge of my specialised subjects) and know nothing of ‘web host providers’ or ‘colocation providers’. I am currently editing your talk page on my iPhone, where (thank goodness!) I am, for some reason, not blocked - the block seems to be confined to my iPad. Judging from the ‘IP address blocked’ message on my iPad, I was already blocked on the 13th of April by user AmandaNP on the grounds of ‘No open proxies’ (whatever that means: this is all technical gobbledygook to me…). I see from my diary that I was staying in a hotel in Stavanger, Norway at the time this block was put on, so am wondering if something to do with Norwegian hotel WiFi might be to blame. The ‘blocked’ message says that what you actually blocked in relation to me was ‘IP address or range 2A09:BAC2:0:0:0:0:0:0/31’ (like the other tech jargon above, this means nothing to me). Please help - I am a devoted Wikipedia editor and distressed at being blocked for reasons that I cannot understand. Flobbadob ( talk) 19:47, 26 April 2024 (UTC) reply

@ Flobbadob: If you're able to edit this page, you aren't actively subject to a block. I see you've been able to edit since then too. The message you're receiving often occurs if you're using a VPN or proxy service (which might include "iCloud Private Relay" or "Firefox Relay"; see #3-5 of H:IHBB). See also the advice from the block message (We recommend that you attempt to use another connection to edit. For example, if you use a proxy or VPN to connect to the internet, turn it off when editing Wikipedia. If you edit using a mobile connection, try using a Wi-Fi connection, and vice versa. If you are using a corporate internet connection, switch to a different Wi-Fi network.). If you face this message again let me know and I can help troubleshoot. Regarding this checkuserblock and your note, is it possible to add information to the log or via categorization to associate the account with a sockmaster for tracking purposes? Is this another AndresHerutJaim sock for example or a new source of canvassing emails? Sean.hoyland ( talk) 03:24, 29 April 2024 (UTC) reply

@ Sean.hoyland I was unable to definitively connect it to AHJ, though hard to rule it out either. Best, KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 03:42, 29 April 2024 (UTC) reply
Okay, thanks. No problem. Sean.hoyland ( talk) 03:45, 29 April 2024 (UTC) reply
By the way, do you happen to know whether the privilege that allows an account to send emails is triggered after an edit count threshold is reached e.g. 10 edits, or is it automatically granted on registration? The fact that there is an "Allow emails from brand-new users" option in preferences seems to imply that the privilege is enabled immediately for new users rather than after an edit count threshold is reached. Sean.hoyland ( talk) 03:52, 29 April 2024 (UTC) reply
@ Sean.hoyland "Send email to other users (sendemail)" is granted to all registered users. KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 14:04, 29 April 2024 (UTC) reply
Okay, thanks. There goes the idea of looking for new accounts that stop editing after a few edits... Sean.hoyland ( talk) 14:26, 29 April 2024 (UTC) reply
