Sorry

You're right, I'm sorry. It just seems to me that Jparenti isn't listening to anyone's side of the story but his. All he does is erase 3 good sources that say Flyleaf is Christian, and then complain about me complaining. Granted, I should have been more civil, but he is downright condescending and acts like he owns the article (see the talk page). The band is listed as christian rock AND alternative metal, isn't that a good enough compromise?? ElisaEXPLOSiON talk. 15:17, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

adoption

Hi,

I've just registered and created an account in Wikipedia. I am a first year PhD student in information Science. I am doing my PhD in City University, London.

My interests fall in " Visualization of huge online social networks" and specifically in uncovering the effects of geographic data (physical location of members in real world) on their online social interactions and behaviour.

Since Wikipedia contains large amonuts of online interactions among registered and unregistered users around the world, I've been focusing on wikipedians' online community recently.

As a result I contacted the wikimedia team and we are in the process of obtaining some data from their team.

At the moment, I am familiarising myself to the wikipedia features and specifically want to find the most effective way of downloading the data dumps into a database.

In doing so I really need soem advice and comments from an experienced user. Highly appreciate it if you let me know that you could adopt me.

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nazks ( talkcontribs) 12:11, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Re:

Thanks ElisaEXPLOSiON talk. 14:39, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

1) It was tagged as almost-empty: no references, no text, nothing; just an infobox. 2) They don't pass WP:MUSIC yet. Maybe if they ever get a contract, we can create an article; but at the moment, not even the ghost of a hint of an assertion of notability. -- Orange Mike | Talk 15:02, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

I'm not being a big ol' meanie here. An infobox does not, cannot, constitute an assertion of notability all by itself. -- Orange Mike | Talk 15:12, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

The Pocket Band info I post keeps being deleted when it is our material, (I am authorized to put it up). Why? It cites that it is copied from our website . Why not?

A question about comments on my talk page

I have a questionable comment on my Talk page. It is signed with one user's name, but it was automatically signed Hoponpop69. The user Hoponpop69 has been causing problems with me recently, and I'm wondering if he is trying to cause problems somehow by using another editor's name. The comment is the last one on my page at the bottom. I would appreciate any insight you may have, as I am not as familiar with how the code works as you may be. Jparenti ( talk) 20:48, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Flyleaf article contribution

Being that the Flyleaf article is currently protected because of edit warring, I'd like to request a minor edit to that article. (Don't worry, it has nothing to do with the band's genre!) At the bottom of the "Band History" section is a formatting problem, "[[January 2008]" where it should be linked: " January 2008". If you could edit that for me, I'd appreciate it. It just annoys me to see something that looks unprofessional for Wikipedia, and yet I can't do anything about it. Thanks a lot! -- Jamie S93 02:46, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Flyleaf consensus

Is to keep the article the way it is now. Thanks for all of your patience and understanding : ). However, there is only one person who is against this decision, Hoponpop69. People have presented him with numerous sources claiming Flyleaf to be alternative, but he refuses to acknowledge them, and sticks to his three sources. Would you be able to keep an eye out for him? it would be appreciated. elisa talk. 13:32, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

You've removed the medcab template, which is fine, however just so you know, it was the formal mediation case that was rejected. Anyway, I'll close the medcab case for now. Good luck in trying to find a compromise. Addhoc ( talk) 19:18, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

For whats it's worth I never ONCE refused to acknowledge that the band was alternative rock. What I refused to acknowledge was that the band wasn't Christian rock. Please be more careful with what you say. Hoponpop69 ( talk) 00:55, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Just wanted to let you know the people on the talk page still refuse to follow the rules of reliable sources no matter how many times they're told otherwise. You may want to show up to set things straight. Hoponpop69 ( talk) 02:24, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Will you please actually look at the sources that are supposed to support Christian Rock? I am more specific about what I am referring to on the talk page. I'm not saying the said source isn't reliable, I'm saying that they do not clearly state the band's genre as Christian Rock. They support alternative when you actually look at them. They in no form or fashion definitively say their genre is Christian Rock. Calling someone a Christian band just means they are Christians. Walmart lists the album in two categories because they realize some ppl label the band us such. Another thing I don't understand is why he can repeatedly call ppl names and you do nothing about it, nothing at all. You blocked me without even warning me, yet he can call ppl names in serial succession i.e. retard, ignorant, stupid, self-hating Christian, blind, etc., etc., etc. Check out his contributions, he resorts to name calling quite often. I believe you may should step back and let another admin handle this, you seem to be a bit partial to hoponpop Dwrayosrfour ( talk) 07:03, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not talking about the recent block, you did block me once when Elissa asked you to. We were having an edit war and you blocked me and told her to keep up the good work Dwrayosrfour ( talk) 07:10, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
I realize that my brother and I's account have nothing to do with one another other than sharing the same IP, I'm just saying that I too was unable to edit because the block and that you didn't warn him, you just simply blocked him. You seem to be a pretty strict admin other than when it comes to hoponpop. Don't get me wrong, in general I think you are doing a great job. I'm very new to wikipedia and just learning how things work. I just thought that name calling was something there was an extremely low tolerance for. It isn't like he just did it once, or even one day. He has done it over and over and over and over and over. How many chances does the guy get? Dwrayosrfour ( talk) 07:25, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Like I said before I am very new to Wikipedia, so let me get this straight. If I have an opinion and want to edit an article, and no matter how many ppl disagree with me, all I have to do is provide a source that can be interpreted to back up my opinion if one so desires? The source does not even have to be definitive, right? I'm not trying to be hateful, I honestly just don't understand. I don't see how something so black and white can be debated. Can you honestly tell me that you think the three sources are definitive? I have nothing against Christians, I am a Christian myself. I have no problem with Christian rock bands, not in the least. I just cannot support something that I know for a fact to be false. I just feel that something that is merely opinion doesn't belong in an encyclopedia. Neither of those three sources says Flyleaf's genre is Christian Rock. There is an enormous difference between calling someone a Christian rock band, and saying their genre is Christian Rock. They even go on and show you that is what they admit. I am apparently the only one that has actually looked at these sources. I provided sources from walmart and VH1 where they actually described the band's genre within. One said Heavy Rock Quintet, and the other said alternative rock. The walmart album summary does not even so much as mention Christian rock. Like I said, when you actually search for Flyleaf on Walmart.com you find yourself in the alternative section. I am about to say the heck with it. At first I thought I would thoroughly enjoy editing Wikipedia. During med school I turned to wikipedia nearly everyday for answers, and found them to be very accurate. I just simply don't have the patience for this, and I hate seeing something inaccurate be put in any article on here. Dwrayosrfour ( talk) 08:18, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not disputing the fact that the three sources are reliable, they just simply don't back up his claims. In the link you sent me it says "Sources should be appropriate to the claims made. The appropriateness of any source always depends on the context, which is a matter of common sense and editorial judgment." Dwrayosrfour ( talk) 14:42, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

AfD closure

I disagree with your closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ace of Base's fifth studio album. Even if you feel there's no crystal ballism, there is still no notability shown—all of the content comes from the band's websites and fansites; there's been no 3rd party coverage whatsoever. Should I put this to WP:DRV? Thanks for your time. — Hello, Control Hello, Tony 15:09, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Your message

I moved it because WP:CAPS says to uncapitalise prepositions. But you can move it back to the original name. The capitalisation rules regarding "like" is odd and there's no source out there that uncapitalises it, so I wouldn't mind if it was moved back. And I understand how you can lose track of pages when you've got a whopping 4000 articles watchlisted. I cut my list down from 300 to 200 and I still thought it was big until I read that interview! I wanted to personally thank you, GlassCobra, for your support in my recent RfB. I am thankful and appreciative that you feel that I am worthy of the trust the community requires of its bureaucrats, and I hope to continue to behave in a way that maintains your trust in me and my actions. I have heard the community's voice that they require more of a presence at RfA's of prospective bureaucrats, and I will do my best over the near future to demonstrate such a presence and allow the community to see my philosophy and practices in action. I hope I can continue to count on your support when I decide to once again undergo an RfB. Beer Pong Link insertion

I am new to wikipedia so I am still learning our it works... but I added several links to the beer pong page that were removed. You suggested that the addition of these links was for purposes of spam or search engine result boosting. The links I added to the article were not only pertinent, but were for organizations REFERRED to in the article! Bpong.com runs the World Series of Beer Pong which is referred to in the article. In fact, their rules are cited as well. Check reference #10 which links to their website! The World Pong Tour was the other link I added and thats because they are a huge beer pong touring organization in the United States. Both of these websites enrich the article and I ask that you be more careful or do even the slightest investigation into the article before deleting.

Thank you for reverting back to my edit on the Michael Jackson article. I've gotten threatening messages from Realist2. I calmly explained to him/her, my rationale behind the edits. If you're interested, you can see their comments on my TALK page. They gave me four warnings. They've stated that they're going to report me to somebody, all of which is unnecessary. This user wants these pages, Michael Jackson, and Janet Jackson, to give a certain impression, one which is highly biased. I'm not sure what to do. I removed ALL the things that said 'citations needed'. we had all sources in at the beginning, they were' deleted in your cleanup , now someone wants them in again can you please help. The photos are deleted when i own copyright who would do that?

we never touched it after your edit this is the latest message

I note that the references section has been removed, and no references are included inline at all. In addition, I'm not convinced of his notability, though he may measure up by WP:MUSIC - I'm not as clear on that guideline. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 21:22, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

adoption

Could you block User:72.10.122.201? They are doing nothing but vandalizing, and won't stop, even after several warnings. Thanks, ElisaEXPLOSiON talk. 16:52, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

They ruin Wikipedia. And whats more is that he has been looking at an article that deals with death/suicide of people, primarily kids and students - how immoral is that? The Pocket Band deletion material - our material?

The Pocket Band info I post keeps being deleted when it is our material, (I am authorized to put it up). Why? It cites that it is copied from our website . Why not?

Very confusing.

Regarding this edit: please be more careful. You mass-unlisted a bunch of debates. I fixed the problem. Mango juice talk 16:01, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

My RfB

If you have any suggestions, comments, or constructive criticisms, please let me know via talkpage or e-mail. Thank you again. -- Avi ( talk) 17:11, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for reverting back to my edit on the Michael Jackson article. I've gotten threatening messages from Realist2. I calmly explained to him/her, my rationale behind the edits. If you're interested, you can see their comments on my TALK page. They gave me four warnings. They've stated that they're going to report me to somebody, all of which is unnecessary. This user wants these pages, Michael Jackson, and Janet Jackson, to give a certain impression, one which is highly biased. I'm not sure what to do. I'm not referring to the editing, but specifically to their warnings, and then trying to report me. I'm not sure if you would have any advice, but if you have a suggestion, please send me a message back. Thanks again. Maddyfan ( talk) 19:03, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
