The problem I have with common names is that a person can have several of them, e.g. Douglas Clark (rugby league) is randomly known as Doug Clark, Dougie Clark or Duggy Clark, dependant upon which reference is used. Similarly people called William, are invariably called; Will, Bill, or Billy, etc. which is why I’m erring towards using their ‘Sunday’ name.

I noticed you have changed Category:Tasmanian State of Origin players and removed the term State of Origin from the intro. While Tasmanian have played interstate football since the early 20th century, these categories only include players who played in the State of Origin era (1977 - 1999). I've created Category:Australian rules football State of Origin which I believe allows us to properly separate Aussie rules SOO categories from Rugby league ones. Category:State of Origin now gives us two options - Category:Australian rules football State of Origin and Category:Rugby League State of Origin. Both hold articles and player categories. As a result I had nominated Category:State of Origin players and Category:Australian rules State of Origin players for deletion as I see no use for them. Of course Category:State of Origin players could be used to group the Australian rules and rugby league SOO player categories together but I don't see any benefit from combining the two. I will also have Category:New South Wales State of Origin players renamed to reflect that it is a category for the Aussie rules players, something I should have done quite some time ago. Hope that makes sense ... if you have any objections please let me now. Cheers. Jevansen ( talk) 01:43, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi Jeff, I saw you updated Category:Inductees of the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame to add the parts I have shown in red here
Unfortunately, this does not do what I believe you were hoping it would do which would be to control the display name in the category. Instead, adding a "|name" to a category link this controls a hidden name that used for sorting the entry in the category. For example, if you look at Category:Rugby league trophies and awards you will see that Category:Inductees of the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame is sorted under H as you gave it the name Hall of Fame.
This hidden name stuff comes up most often on pages that are in a namespace. For example, if you look at
Category:Wikipedia help you will see that something like Wikipedia basic information is listed under B and not W. This is done with the "|name" stuff when adding a child page to the categories. You might also see this in the main namespace. For example, on Wikipedia articles for Rugby players are usually named "First Last" name. If you wanted to add players to a category and to have them sorted by last name then you would add them using [[Category:Brisbane Broncos' Players|Last, First]]
.
I'll leave it up do you on if you want to undo your own edit to Category:Inductees of the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame or if you had some plan in mind that I did not spot. -- Marc Kupper| talk 05:01, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Just as no-one would have seriously name their offspring Jeff without adding the 'rey' at the end, Mister and Missus Karalius didn’t name their son Vince they named him Vincent, similarly Mr and Mrs Lewis didn’t name their son Wally, they named him Walter (please note I didn’t create these articles). I’ve taken the advice from a number of Wikipedians, and adjusted the articles I create according, but your attitude is confrontational and smug (e,g, "Grade 2 English: we don't use apostrophes for plurals" and that wasn‘t even targeted at me). If you would like me to add given name references then I will, if only to irk you. In the meantime, can I suggest you divert you energies and cast your oh-so critical eye over these articles as they are desperately in need of improvement. Sorry to kick you when you're down, but I tried looking for news articles from the UK with the term "rugby league footballer" and had no joy. "Football" is a term almost exclusively used for association football in this country, hence why Brits get so wound up over the use of the word "soccer". Also, I looked on the French Wikipedia to see what terms they use, and they describe Thomas Bosc as, "un joueur (player) de rugby à XIII français polyvalent". The category they use also has the word "player" not footballer. It's hard because the southern hemisphere uses "footballer" whilst the northern hemisphere uses "player". Even so, "footballer" is more specific. GW (talk) 08:52, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

However, I'm not sure why you've replaced the current State of Origin template with an inferior one? Jeff - I've restored the 'BLP refimprove' tag you removed from the Gorden Tallis article as there was no explanation for the removal and none of the concerns regarding sourcing were addressed. Jeff, I think you make a common mistake when you say rugby league is a 'newer game' than rugby union. Before the 1895 schism, there was clearly a single game, rugby football. Since then the two sports have developed their own distinctive features that mean that not only have they moved a long way from each other but also from their shared roots in 19th century rugby. They have of course both retained features of the pre-schism game, arguably league more than union. Sean Fagan has done a lot of research on this point: http://www.rl1908.com/blog/real-rugby.htm. Jeff, I was looking for a citation for the claim on the Rugby league page that the term originated at the time of the 1895 schism in England. Googling the text, the original source for it appears to be this: "Similar breakaway factions occurred from RFU-affiliated rugby unions in Australia and New Zealand in 1907 and 1908, and formed associations known as "rugby football leagues" (available on http://www.crusadersrfl.com/page.php?id=419 amongst other places) which seems to contradict that claim. I have received following info from nla: Dear Doug, Thank you for your question about capitalisation in our catalogue records. Libraries throughout the world use a standard form of capitalisation called sentence case for the titles of publications. In sentence case, only the first letter of the first word is capitalised with all other words in lower case unless they are proper nouns or acronyms. You can find more information about sentence case at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentence_case Please let me know if you have any further questions. Whilst I appreciate your efforts to open the lines of communication it seems like very is being achieved. I believe the image of Bennett (and the NRL trophy) is a better quality image and is of dimensions better suited to the infobox. You prefer the older image of Bennett (and Tunza Carroll), which is a portrait image, which does not lend itself well to the infobox, especially considering the amount of text available in the Broncos section. I obviously will not revert at this point, as I am very hopeful of continuing the dialogue in the hope of reaching a reasonable conclusion for the both of us. This deal is getting worse all the time.
You seem to take a tough line on article quality, thankfully. I was hoping you could please take a look at the paragraph starting "Further problems emerged on 7 September 2008" in the DW Stadium article. It wasn't written by me, but as a Warriors fan myself, I don't trust my clean-up attempts to be partial enough for the WP:GAN I'm about to thrust upon the article. Could you give me an opinion as a neutral? Cheers, GW (talk) 19:26, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi Jeff, the description of the final seconds of the final that you've just added to 2006 Rugby League Tri-Nations might be on dodgy ground unfortunately ( WP:PLAG) despite your citation because it is the same as the source with one additional word. Hi Jeff79, first off I guees I should say what a great job you've done with the NRL club templates! They look much better now, so well done. However, I'm not sure why you've replaced the current State of Origin template with an inferior one? The one we had was very good and the new one doesn't seem to improve on what we already had, in fact it looks like it has less information on it. I'd just like to hear your reasoning behind the edits. Bongomanrae ( talk) 07:03, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
Jeff - I've restored the 'BLP refimprove' tag you removed from the Gorden Tallis article as there was no explanation for the removal and none of the concerns regarding sourcing were addressed. There are only four references included that do not come close to covering the amount of information in the article. I've also left a note on the article talk page per this guideline. Hi Jeff - Dominique Peyroux was selected to represent Cook Islands while he hasn't played at NRL level, only NYC.
