Disambiguation link notification for December 3

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Kharan Rifles, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Taftan. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Information icon Hello, I'm Kautilya3. I noticed that you recently removed content from Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Kautilya3 ( talk) 21:56, 9 December 2022 (UTC) reply

@ Kautilya3: I accidentally clicked return before finishing my edit summary. The text I removed was copied wholesale from the source (which is a dead link now). Go back to the version you restored and read the archived version of that source. It is word for word copied. Please be careful not to restore copyvio material. Infobox Military Unit vs Law Enforcement Agency

I noticed that you recently replace infobox from Infobox Law Enforcement Agency to Infobox Military Unit such as here and here.

Kindly please note that refer to Template:Infobox military unit, A military unit infobox may be used to summarize information about an individual military unit or formation, such as a regiment or division.

Meanwhile, Template:Infobox law enforcement agency stated that it is an infobox template for use in articles on individual law enforcement agencies

Refer to the article content of Frontier Corps and Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, it was explicitly stated that both units are tasked with law enforcement duty (and border guard). Also both units are paramilitary forces (separate and distinct from the regular "military" Pakistan Armed Forces). Therefore infobox law enforcement agencies is better fit for those pages. Ckfasdf ( talk) 11:31, 20 December 2022 (UTC) reply

@ Ckfasdf: Thank you for the message. Yes, they are partially tasked with law enforcement but the reason for using the military unit infobox was because they are officered and commanded by seconded officers from the Pakistan Army. Each of the four Inspector Generals of the Frontier Corps is a Major General in the Army. The Director General of the GB Scouts is an Army Brigadier. These units are part of the Civil Armed Forces, which would be allocated as reserve forces for the Army in wartime, along with the Pakistani National Guard. By the way, it was me who added those specific words "separate and distinct from the regular "military" Pakistan Armed Forces" but that was to distinguish the military Armed Forces such as Army, Navy and Air Force (under the Ministry of Defence) from the Civil Armed Forces such as the four Frontier Corps and the two Ranger forces, under the Ministry of the Interior. I would support using the law enforcement if the heads of the forces were from the Police Service of Pakistan. An example of this is the Frontier Constabulary, which is led by Salahuddin Khan Mehsud, who is a senior police officer. Additionally, the GB Scouts were raised to replace the Northern Light Infantry, which was the previous paramilitary force in Gilgit-Baltistan but is now a full infantry regiment of the Pakistan Army. I hope you can see that the appropriate infobox is the military one. I shall wait for your prompt reply before doing any edits to the articles. I understand you are checking the articles but although I’m a new user, I have only been adding content from reliable sources. It would have been more polite to ask me why I changed it rather than treating me like a potential vandal. Gedrose ( talk) 12:01, 20 December 2022 (UTC) reply
Sorry but I can’t let this stand. If it was just the infobox, I could have waited but you’ve also done the following incorrect things;
  • In your edit to Frontier Corps, you’ve restored an incorrect personnel figure (100,000), which is not supported by the sources. You’ve removed my figure (70,000), which IS supported by the more recent source I added. You’ve also removed a "ref name", which resulted in a bot having to rescue the reference.
  • You’ve removed two of the FC four headquarters (Dera Ismail Khan and Turbat). Please note there are FOUR Corps HQ's, not two.
  • Yo have restored the four previous Inspectors General of the Frontier Corps, without sources, but removed my list of the four CURRENT Inspectors General along with the sources which showed them as being current.
  • You’ve put Pakistan Army as the parent agency, which is incorrect because the four Corps are part of the Civil Armed Forces.
  • You’ve re added a dead commercial website as the official website.
  • In your edit to Gilgit-Baltistan, you have restored an incorrect foundation date (1809). This paramilitary unit was founded in 2003 to replace a previous paramilitary force (Northern Light Infantry), which was upgraded to a full Army regiment in 2000 and was previously known as Gilgit Scouts until 1975. Although the GB Scouts has a similar name to the previous unit, it is a new and distinct force. The claimed history of the older unit belongs to the Northern Light Infantry, not the newer GB Scouts.
  • You’ve readded an unsourced personnel figure (25,000), which is not supported by any source I’ve seen so far.
  • You’ve also put Pakistan Army as parent agency but it is incorrect because it is in Civil Armed Forces.
For these reasons, I am going to restore the previous versions until you can explain (with sources), why your version is correct. Gedrose ( talk) 13:12, 20 December 2022 (UTC) reply
@ Gedrose: Eventhough the commander are coming from the armed forces, it doesn't changed the fact that their day-to-day operation are in law enforcement duties and they are not part of the armed forces, hence it is Law enforcement agency. I am also fully aware that I am using your word of separate and distinct from the regular "military" Pakistan Armed Forces to emphasize my point that Military unit and paramilitary law enforcement agency are different.
Regarding other incorrect data, those can be fixed. Therefore, with those point fixed, I'll revert back the infobox. Ckfasdf ( talk) 14:36, 20 December 2022 (UTC) reply
With those changes made, I’m not going to argue about the infobox. Sadly it is your misunderstanding because I think you are trying to apply a meaning that is not used by the forces themselves not by the sources. Gedrose ( talk) 15:29, 20 December 2022 (UTC) reply
