BalCoder has mislead you to believe that he/she is preserving an earlier version of the WP article. In truth, this user has unilaterally removed an entire sourced section "PR systems in the broader family of voting systems" from the WP (which was not created by me) without reaching consensus! This user has also sneaked in large paragraphs of politically partisan material. I have also used an 'adaptive edit' and have included components of BalCoder's edits, while he/she has merely mass-reverted mine. Please reconsider your reversion. I have noticed that BalCoder is once again attempting to have me blocked. However, like I said, this user has unilaterally removed large sections from the WP article and has inserted large paragraphs of politically motivated content under the guise of preserving an earlier version. My concern is, if we are both banned, that all of his/her massive unsourced reversions/large edits will stay in place, while my meticulously sourced and well written content will be removed. I hope that you could provide your input on the above mentioned noticeboard. In particular, which user you feel has provided sources to substantiate edits/reversions, and which user has not. Hello, Drcrazy102 -- First, I love that photo of the dog and the hydrangeas above! Second, I need your help with something, and Baffle gab is on a break so I can't ask him/her. I just placed a GOCE template at the top of the talk page of an article I had copy-edited a few days ago, Murder of Meredith Kercher. (I just realized I hadn't written "Done" on the WP:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests page, so I did that. I also added a clarification needed tag to the article, in response to a suggestion from Baffle gab1978 at User talk:Baffle gab1978/Archives/1#Murder of Meredith Kercher, and pretty much transferred my question to the article's talk page.) However, when I looked at the talk page after I saved the GOCE template, I saw that it was separate from the rest of the things there. I had never seen that happen before. I also thought perhaps the GOCE template should be collapsed because there are so many things there. I neither know where to put the GOCE template nor how to collapse it. Business side -  Done - Moved the GOCE template above the archive bot notice, then moved the banner shell parameters to include both, which also includes collapsing; and that's how you make an internal link diff using {{ diff}}. For the grouping of banners, see {{ bannershell}} with |collapsed=yes to hide everything but a "show" link/button.

Thank you for doing that. I looked at the banner shell template page, but it's all a little too complicated for me. I got the general idea of what you did, though. There's one thing you wrote, though, that I did not understand at all. It's "and that's how you make an internal link diff using "t-diff". (a) What do you mean by "that"? (b) What's an internal link diff? Is that a diff like I always use (with https, etc.), but just within WP? I'd like to know how to do that, but I still didn't get what you meant.

1. Hey Corinne, so with the banner shell template I moved its closing parameter (the }}'s) to include the GOCE template, so you have a template-within-a-template. I think the banner shell was causing the small white-space between the templates; probably something in the back-end of its coding which could be fixed but I can't be stuffed finding what it is that needs fixing - if there even is anything - plus there were probably brighter sparks than I who created the template but didn't fix the spacing for whatever reason.
2. So, the little known " internal diff template" (as I call it) or the diff template as most others probably call it. So when you look at the URL of a diff and the URL of an article page, you might notice that there is a slight change (besides the addition of IDs). For example, https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=User_talk:Corinne&diff=694105689&oldid=694102504 (a diff, or permanent link, of me responding to your "#Red user name" section) vs. /info/en/?search=User_talk:Corinne (your user talk page). In the diff, after the en.wikipedia.org, there is a /w/ which is not recognised as being an internally available link as opposed to the /wiki/ that is present in the (at time of click) current link to a "Wikispace", your talk page, and which is recognised as being internally available.

   So you can't use the internal links, i.e. [[ - ]], for diffs which would typically present as [[index.php?title=User_talk:Corinne&diff=694105689&oldid=694102504]] which gives you this, a red/invalid link: index.php?title=User_talk:Corinne&diff=694105689&oldid=694102504

   But you can do [[User talk:Corinne]] which gives you this, a blue/working link: User talk:Corinne

   So the diff template takes the IDs of the revision you are looking at, and a previous revision (so you can look back one revision, two, three, 100+), and then produces an "internal link". So you see how both of the URL links at the top of "2." have the little square with an arrow pointing out? That means it's recognised as an external link, so the template removes that little square-arrow combo making for a prettier comment.

   To use the diff template is actually quite easy:

   {{Diff|{insert page name here}|diff=page ID of desired revision|oldid=page ID of desired previous revision|label=[optional] what will appear as the visual link|diffonly=yes [optional, will show only the changes rather than the changes and a visual page view of that diff.}}.

   So, for example (and to re-use the reply to "#Red user name") this code:

   {{Diff|page=User talk:Corinne|diff=694105689|oldid=694102504|label=This is a link to my reply on your talk page concerning your red-link user name on Meta and Commons|}}

   would produce:

   This is a link to my reply on your talk page concerning your red-link user name on Meta and Commons.

3. I am pretty sure it is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, rather than a King Charles Spaniel, due to the fur coating and facial features - and look at all the widdle adorwable puppies on those links! First, thank you so much for taking the time to explain all this. I really appreciate it. I don't quite follow all of it, but that's O.K. If I haven't tried your patience to its limit yet, would you mind answering a few more questions about how to make an internal diff (which will show you how little I know of this)?:

(a) Can you just change the "w" in an external link to "wiki", and square brackets to curly brackets, to get an internal diff?

(b) To create an internal diff, as in your example just above about the "Red-link" section on my talk page, do you actually have to type all of that, or can you copy and paste at least part of it?

(c) Also, I looked at that section (on my talk page) in edit mode, and the URL at the top of my screen said "prev&oldid=" and a number. How did you get, or find, two different numbers, one for "previous" and one for "oldid"? (What is "oldid"?) Corinne ( talk) 14:59, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Oh, and regarding the dogs, yes, they're cute, but I'm disturbed by the continued breeding of dogs that have a multitude of serious health problems due to their descent from only six dogs. @ Corinne: Sorry I haven't responded for a few days. I got distracted by various flashy baubles on Wiki and IRL.

(A) No, you can't change "w" to "wiki" because the "Wiki-backend code machine", in other words, the site code does not accept the "w" and linking uses only after the "w", which is that red "index. blah blah..." link above.

(B) Internal diff is great for this. So you do have to type {{diff| page name | but then you can copy-paste the page revision IDs into the template, e.g. diff=694105689&oldid=694102504 but you have to change the "&" ( ampersand) into a "|" ( vertical bar) when doing so or you get a reference-based link: [1] instead of a text link like this , and the URL is so messy as it recognises the oldID but tries to find a second without any actual effect on the page loading; but I am so OCD about stuff like that. Resisting the urge to change the diff link ... must resist ;p

(C) Well, you can have multiple ways of putting down the revision ID of a page, especially since "anyone can edit Wikipedia". So you can go backwards diff=prev&oldid=694105689, forwards diff=next&oldid=694102504 or the exact IDs diff=694105689&oldid=694102504, but they are all the same diff. The oldID, oldid, OLDid, is the revision number of the diff you came from to get to the diff you are viewing at that time. There is probably someone like RedRose64 who could explain this better, mainly since I only deal with how to implement the templates rather than try to code them. I'd likely break Wiki, if not the Universe, if I tried. It's not really a detail to worry about much if you find the diffs you want since it will always be in the URL.

(D) Welcome to the reason I got a Beag alier puppy. So many health issues are gone, but behaviour is as bad since its just two hunting breeds that love food and attention. Thank you so much. I copied and pasted your no-wiki example template onto my talk page (so I don't forget it and perhaps it will help other editors who stumble across it). It starts, "How to..." But in that example, above, "diff=page ID of desired revision|oldid=page ID of desired previous revision"; basically, "page ID of desired revision" means the newer version and "page ID of desired previous revision" means the older version, right? But the phrase "desired revision" suggests to me that you could include edits (revisions) that are not adjacent to each other in the revision history. Could the "desired previous revision" be an earlier version in the article's (or talk page's) revision history, not just the one just before? If that is so, then I will have to change the first few words after "How to" on my talk page. Corinne ( talk) 17:39, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
