Hi, I can't find anything in the noticeboard about the dispute resolution you filed ( Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution_noticeboard#Talk:UltraViolet_(system)). Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

I'm trying to edit a table, and seem to have encountered a problem regarding the placement of some text into a specific cell. See the annotated screenshot for more information:

This is the page where the table is currently located (it's the lower table):
I've used the visual editor on the table, so it may be a bug related to that. The characters "||" don't seperate the cell, and appear in plaintext in the interpreted version of the article..

- There was a line break which didn't belong, and unlike most wiki-code tables react to that. The VisualEditor to my knowledge has some issues with tables; unless that has been fixed I wouldn't use it for this purpose. Huon ( talk) 23:21, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

You should not create location maps with projections other than equirectangular unless you know the formulas to map coordinates to points. Using the built-in equirectangular formulas for a non-equirectangular map, like you did on Module:Location map/data/County Dublin, will cause an unacceptable level of inaccuracy. There is no way I can think of that the Sumerians could have measured the elevation angle to the stars better than about 4 pr 5 minutes of arc. This would have given them an accuracy of about 1 percent in the circumference of the earth.

- @ Codename Lisa: okay, it wasn't really problematic. I half expected someone to revert it if it wasn't working for them, and I assumed it would work for everyone if nobody reverted. I wasn't aware of MOS:WEBADDR or that protocol-relative URLs worked on Wikipedia. While doing the HTTP -> HTTPS conversion, I tested a few links and the ones that didn't work, also didn't work in HTTP (they were dead either way). There were two of those. That is why I partially undid your reversion, but I left the "http" ones alone for now, seeing as "https" might not work for some people.

- @ XxServerHosterxX: The encyclopaedia's collection of facts must be backed up by sources (such as books, news articles, other websites, scientific studies, etc, which verify these facts), otherwise anyone would be able to add things they suck out of their thumbs to Wikipedia (which falls under 'original research'). There is an in-depth explanation to why referencing is needed on Wikipedia here. Referencing sources will be very familiar to most who have completed a college course (or some secondary school courses). Hope that helps. If you struggle citing a source in the article, just put it on this page as a raw URL and I'll do it.

I'm trying to edit a table, and seem to have encountered a problem regarding the placement of some text into a specific cell. See the annotated screenshot for more information:

I've used the visual editor on the table, so it may be a bug related to that. The characters "||" don't seperate the cell, and appear in plaintext in the interpreted version of the article..

You should not create location maps with projections other than equirectangular unless you know the formulas to map coordinates to points. Using the built-in equirectangular formulas for a non-equirectangular map, like you did on Module:Location map/data/County Dublin, will cause an unacceptable level of inaccuracy. There is no way I can think of that the Sumerians could have measured the elevation angle to the stars better than about 4 pr 5 minutes of arc. This would have given them an accuracy of about 1 percent in the circumference of the earth.

- @ Codename Lisa: okay, it wasn't really problematic. I half expected someone to revert it if it wasn't working for them, and I assumed it would work for everyone if nobody reverted. I wasn't aware of MOS:WEBADDR or that protocol-relative URLs worked on Wikipedia. While doing the HTTP -> HTTPS conversion, I tested a few links and the ones that didn't work, also didn't work in HTTP (they were dead either way). There were two of those. That is why I partially undid your reversion, but I left the "http" ones alone for now, seeing as "https" might not work for some people.

- @ XxServerHosterxX: The encyclopaedia's collection of facts must be backed up by sources (such as books, news articles, other websites, scientific studies, etc, which verify these facts), otherwise anyone would be able to add things they suck out of their thumbs to Wikipedia (which falls under 'original research'). There is an in-depth explanation to why referencing is needed on Wikipedia here. Referencing sources will be very familiar to most who have completed a college course (or some secondary school courses). Hope that helps. If you struggle citing a source in the article, just put it on this page as a raw URL and I'll do it.
