Transgender health

Initially, I wanted to improve the article about Healthcare in the LGBT community, but while reviewing it I noticed that there is no existing article dedicated to transgender health. Rather, searching transgender health on Wikipedia points you to the section about trans health in the Healthcare in the LGBT Community article. The section on transgender health contains a good skeleton to build off of. However, the section makes little to no mention of non-Western trans people. There are only brief mentions to Latin American trans women and Indian trans women and some subsections do not reference non-Western trans people at all.

This transgender health section of the article does not appear to have been edited very recently, the last edit in this section was in March of 2015, and even then the edits made were mostly minor ones. I believe that expanding the section into a full article page will allow for a greater discussion of non-Western experiences as well as improved visibility for the issue and greater chance for improvements.

I have a preliminary annotated bibliography available on my sandbox. Please take a look and let me know if you have any feedback or suggested sources! Brookeenglish ( talk) 11:44, 8 September 2016

Welcome, Brookeenglish. For starters:
  • Talk pages are for discussions about Wikipedia content. Your comment above belongs here, on your Talk page, rather than on your User:Brookeenglish user page where I originally found it. User pages are more about you, as an individual. I've taken the liberty of copying your comment from there to here, where it more properly belongs, and also so that any responses to it don't seem to be hanging in space with no context. (You may remove the original comment on your user page, if you wish; it's better to have it in only one place.)
  • Please use wikilinks liberally in your talk page comments. I've started you off by adding one to your sandbox, above, but please also link the word "sandbox" in your comment on the Transgender talk page. Also, please link any articles you refer to, for example "Healthcare in the LGBT Community"; but note that since that is not quite precisely the actual article name, the link won't work until you get the name of the article exactly right. Bad links show up as red (e.g., Transgneder), good ones as blue ( Transgender). (You only have to link once to a given article, subsequent references can remain unlinked.) You can also link directly to a specific section of an article.
  • Use a colon in column one to indent, two colons to indent more, and so on. Indent your replies one more column than the one above you. See WP:INDENT.
  • Please always sign your talk page comments using four tildes, thus: ~~~~. That turns into a timestamped link to your user and talk page. I've added this for you above, but please follow this convention in the future. (There are other conventions on Talk page usage, please read WP:TALK to find out about use of indentation and more.)
More soon. Now, I'm going to type four tildes, which you won't see, because Mediawiki software automatically turns into my signature, like this: ⟶ Mathglot ( talk) 20:33, 13 October 2016 (UTC) reply
To help keep you organized and to follow Wikipedia conventions and guidelines about talk pages and Drafts, I've created a Userspace draft article for you at User:Brookeenglish/Transgender healthcare. It contains your References section which I copied from your sandbox. The talk page at User talk:Brookeenglish/Transgender healthcare is the proper place to discuss your References section, or anything else about your new article. As you create content for your new article, please add the content directly to User:Brookeenglish/Transgender healthcare, and discuss content with other editors at User talk:Brookeenglish/Transgender healthcare.
