Blocking

I disagree with your block of me last night. I will admit I was out of line when I vandalized Redvars page, and left him a nasty note. However I felt abused by him, and unfortunately responded in a negative fashion unstead of appropriately. Although I apologize for my actions and admit my wrong, I will note at the time I was being harassed by other individuals who abused their power in an attempt to torment me. 74.136.222.198 06:42, 30 July 2006 (UTC) reply

You redirected the featured article on the Main Page to autofellatio, were blocked for three hours, and then you launched a series of vicious personal attacks on everyone who defended Wikipedia against your malicious actions, including a bizarre "justification" for the autofellatio redirect, and you were blocked again. Now you are claiming that others abused you? What?? Antandrus (talk) 14:59, 30 July 2006 (UTC) reply
That characterization is not accurate in the least and you know it. It seems you are indeed fond of abuse. Yes, I redirected the featured article as a joke. I indeed deserved a warning, not a block. I was enraged by the characterization provided by Redvars, and in anger responded to harshly. Aeon1006 decided at that point to warn me, I attempted to dispute his claims and he embarked on a campaign of harassment, removing all of my comments. I did not, as you so inaccurately put it, launch a series of vicious personal attacks on everyone who defended Wikipedia from my "malicious actions". My actions against Redvars were sadly, malicious, but the same is not true towards anyone else. 74.136.222.198 15:54, 30 July 2006 (UTC) reply
I completely disagree. There was nothing wrong with my block. You do NOT get a "free pass" to vandalise once (i.e. the "warning" you think was an entitlement of yours), and you do not get a "free pass" to leave nasty comments just because you didn't like the consequences to your earlier action. It's not obvious to me. I've never heard of it, though it gets a lot of Google hits. Somewhere within the GIS section, certainly: maybe one of the GIS articles needs a section on active projects to assemble experts and data within specific sub-disciplines. Can you help with an image?

Hi Antandrus,

I'm stuck trying to transport a nice image of a spinet from the French Wikipedia to the English one. It looks like it's legit, but I can't summon up a proper license for it. Could you take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Epinette_Rouaud.jpeg and let me know if there's any way to address the conundrum described there?

Thanks very much, Opus33 18:21, 31 July 2006 (UTC) reply

I thought it probably was him, but I was assuming good faith, for no particular reason. I'm really tempted to put that "This article is crap" template on the List of clichés in music page, but I won't. I've already gotten on enough peoples' nerves there. I was accused of holding the article hostage :P I'm afraid that if I tried to make it better, as one editor suggests, I would be accused of WP:POINT. I do keep thinking of an excellent sourced one, though: "By the end of the decade [1580s] the concerto di donne was a courtly cliché in northern Italy." (Newcomb, 99) I'm encorporating a bunch of stuff from Newcomb into that article now, and when I'm done I think I'll have a Peer review, so look forward to some talk page spam :-) Cheers, Mak (talk) 02:59, 1 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Request your attention to the GoldToeMarionette case

GoldToeMarionette ( talk · contribs) had a WP:RFCU inappropriately completed on their account by Jayjg ( talk · contribs) and Hall Monitor ( talk · contribs) blocked the account after it was identified as a multiple account despite their being no violation of Wikipedia policy by GoldToeMarionette. These users did not respond to requests to undo the action.

Other steps in dispute resolution have been tried

Comments on RFCU itself [1]
Other Admins contacted [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
Hall Monitor was emailed with no reply
GoldToeMarionette posted on the account's User and Talk Pages seeking assistance when the talk page was protected without the issue being discussed. User:GoldToeMarionette User_talk:GoldToeMarionette

GoldToeMarionette notified article contributors that illustrative examples were subject to an AfD. The account strictly followed the WP:SPAM#Internal_spamming guideline. The AfD was without controversy. GoldToeMarionette did not participate in the vote. HereToCleanup removed the posts following the AfD in accord with the widely accepted Wikipedia Guideline Wikipedia:Spam#Internal_spamming that states "Clean up your mess. For example, after engaging in cross-posting to promote some election, be sure to remove those cross-posts after the election is complete." [7]

Since GoldToeMarionette was strictly following Wikipedia Policy, there should not have been a Check User completed by Jayjg. Hall Monitor only blocked the account because it was labeled as a sockpuppet by Jayjg's completed Check User. Absent policy violation it should not have been processed in RFCU or been blocked. I am asking for your help to confirm that policy was not violated, administrative action should not have been taken, and request that the administrative action be reversed by unblocking GoldToeMarionette and unprotecting the talk page. Thank you for your time with this request. SixWallRoom 04:04, 7 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Hello!

I enjoyed your article on the composer John Bull. In your article, you mention that there's evidence that he was involved in espionage missions for Queen Elizabeth. I'm actually doing a Musicology paper pertaining to this subject; I was wondering which of your sources you got that particular piece of information from, so that I could look it up and use it. Thanks a lot, and I'll look forward to your response.

Jeff

Hi Jeff: sorry, I'm finally getting to my talk page backlog. I did not add that bit about Bull being involved in espionage; it was added by user User:Yellow Lion on 5 September 2005 [8]. I have never read anything about this, and do not have a source to back it up (there's nothing in Grove that I recall). Antandrus (talk) 15:41, 27 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Advice

Hello Antandrus,

I'm wondering if I can seek your advice. I've recently been involved in a dispute with User:Robin klein that has greatly exacerbated my wikistress. I'm wondering if you would be so kind as to assist me in two ways: firstly, as an experienced editor and music scholar, to offer a third opinion, and secondly, to advise me as to how I might have handled or should continue to handle the situation in the most productive and cooperative fashion possible.

The dispute began on the music page. I copyedited the lead to try to make it clearer and more understandable and my edits were reverted without comment. I then began a discussion on the article's talk page. To my chagrin, this apparent feud continued on the issue of Voice instrumental music. I found this article a while back, couldn't understand what it was about, and tried to copyedit it for a while. User:Hyacinth changed it to a redirect to vocal music, calling it OR, and moved the rest of the contents to Vocal music, after which I copyedited more, removing a lot of what did not seem appropriate for a survey of vocal music. I now think the article was OR as I cannot find any use of the term "voice instrumental music", other than mirror sites of wikipedia. Robin, as the initial author, feels differently. Her comments are on on my talk page and my comments on her talk page.

I don't wish to burden you - I'm just not sure what's best to do in this situation and I hoped you might be able to help. Thank you. Best, MarkBuckles (talk) 09:11, 9 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Thanks for getting back to me! I didn't realize you were on Wikibreak when I first posted this. I hope the conference went/is going well! The situation has become amicable most thankfully, but has not been resolved. There are two unrelated issues. First, the lead of the Music article. Some discussion regarding this at Talk:Music. Second, the future of Voice instrumental music or its former content. Copious discussion of this at both our talk pages. I would be most grateful to get a third educated and experienced opinion, whether or not you agree with my views. Your general advice on the interaction is also quite welcome. I think I'm learning from this experience and I'm hoping to improve my general method of Wikitalk. Since text-based communication tends to be dehumanizing in a way, and because people are inherently protective of their creations (even though this is a Wiki), I've found assuming good faith to be extremely important at all times - and not just that you assume it, but that you actively demonstrate it in the tone and content of your messages, since that's all we have to go by. Sure. First of all, if you are able to edit my talk page, you can't be blocked. Second, since there's nothing in the block log for you specifically, you must have been hit by an autoblock, i.e. by someone who shared an IP with you. August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Composer catagorization issues...

Hello. I'm afraid I'm having a bit of a tango with Dafoeberezin3494 concerning several major changes that he or she been undertaking in the "classical composers" catagory. I posted something about this on August 12th at [ [9]], but haven't had any response. At my suggestion, he or she has posted something to the composers project page at [ [10]] but this seems to be escalating rather than deflating.

  • My main problem is that he or she is using very questionable sources (a textbook generally used in non-music major Music appreciation classes at American Universities, "standard repertoire" lists and the like....) and has a tendency to use lots of non-POV language such as "the greatest", "the best" , "the most important". This wouldn't really be a problem except that he or she works very quickly and this is starting to change the whole structure of the catagorization of composers. I can personally can foresee several problems with this.
    • This person should obviously be encouraged as a young person with lots of energy, but quite frankly, I'm not the person to do so as we're not getting on at all. I'm wondering if you would mind perhaps communicating a bit about this and perhaps giving some insight. I think that if I say anything else, that this person is probably going to explode. And really, at this point, I would quite understand. It's just not a "fair fight". If you can't help with this, I would appreciate your passing this on to someone who can. Thanks in advance. Hi, Saw you reverted an edit from the AOL address a minute ago. Looks like there is a vandal bot on the go from that address, look at my contribs from the last 30 mins or so, reverted loads. WP:AIV doesn't deal with range blocks, how can I get a range block put in place for 15 mins or so? This is similar to one I was involved in a couple of months back but I've forgotten how it was done. Cheers Khukri ( talk . contribs) 22:15, 26 August 2006 (UTC) reply

I'm not an admin so can't block, but I'm with you I'm not up for blocking for a longtime, just 15mins usually calms it down. Stopped using VP for this as it's not quick enough, back on popups. Cheers Khukri ( talk . contribs) 22:18, 26 August 2006 (UTC) reply

You appear to be the originator of the section on the New England School. I find this sentence curious:

Their intellectual and stylistic descendants, such as Howard Hanson, Walter Piston, and Roger Sessions, and have remained through the 20th and into the 21st centuries in the major universities in the cities of the northeast and elsewhere.

"Their descendants" what? Eliding the examples of Hanson, etcet, gives "Their intellectual and stylistic descendants ... and have remained" which is gibberish. Could you supply the missing copy? For me? Please? :-) Signinstranger 19:20, 28 August 2006 (UTC) reply

About the V|rus

Despite the names negative connotation, the V|rus truely means no harm. Its simply a fun community builder in which many users spread the word of the |nfection. There is no hacking, or even an actual computer virus involved. I know at first glance it seems like an evil thing, but it isnt really. I also understand why the V|rus was blocked, i just wanted to clear things up. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DJLO ( talkcontribs) .

Okay, this is the second time I have been blocked today based on my IP address...Can you please unblock my user name? I didn't do anything wrong. I was editing my user page when I saw I was blocked for something relating to Fidel Castro...I haven't edited that article...ever.

Sorry to bother you again...

Its Dwslassls...

Okay, well I may not be blocked from editing a talk page, but submitting the information is quite a problem...That is what I meant...

I can type all I want into an article...not a talk page, but whenever I try to submit the edits, it just says "your IP is blocked for...Fidel castro"...Then I try again, and everything i've typed is completely gone and I can't do anything. I spent about half an hour typing the articles I've edited on my user page, and I couldn't submit it, and all the work went down the drain. I'm not raving or anything, I'm just wondering if you can help when you have the chance.

Thanks a lot. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dwslassls ( talkcontribs) .

Further note from the NCV

Why blame me for what some unrelated jackass named "Buzawz" did? Steinerstein 03:01, 16 August 2006 (UTC) reply

And you just happened to notice that he got blocked thirty seconds before, when you haven't used this account at all today? LOL. Antandrus (talk) 03:04, 16 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Now why did you block Buzawz indefniely, although he wss being a victim of wikistalking. Steinerstein 03:07, 16 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Please don't talk about yourself in the third person--it's confusing. I blocked you because you were vandalising, and I blocked your "Steinerstein" account because it is a sockpuppet for block evasion. Now please go away and leave us alone--we're an encyclopedia, not a gaming forum. Antandrus (talk) 03:15, 16 August 2006 (UTC) reply

I will leave and never come back if you delete Wikipedia:Long term abuse/North Carolina vandal. Firaddahides 03:17, 16 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Put it on WP:ANI and see what kind of response you get. I couldn't do that unilaterally anyway. Antandrus (talk) 03:18, 16 August 2006 (UTC) reply

(edit conflict) User:Buzawz was also attempting to pretend to protect Wikipedia:Sandbox using a very similar protection summary in edit summary, and to remove the sandbox header from a sandbox page to replace something like "This article is indefinitely protected.". -- ADNghiem501 03:20, 16 August 2006 (UTC) reply

And regarding Steinerstein, he himself added his original username "Jake Remington" [11] to Wikipedia:Missing Wikipedians which I've removed. -- ADNghiem501 03:29, 16 August 2006 (UTC) reply

2006 redefinition of planet page

Maybe you could sprotect the page because it is a current event (likely continued vandalism)? The same was done for the JonBenet Ramsey article (seems like the same person/bot is vandalizing over and over on these pages). — Super-Magician ( talk •  contribs •  count) ★ 01:21, 19 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Sure thing; let's try it. He/it will just move on to a different article, but we can sprotect that one too. Antandrus (talk) 01:23, 19 August 2006 (UTC) reply

I have no idea what the whole history is on this one, but his talk page is frightening. At any rate there's no reason we have to put up with this kind of crap. Antandrus (talk) 05:27, 20 August 2006 (UTC) reply
Perhaps he is trying to reach the GNAA standard of notability. :) Stirling Newberry 05:31, 20 August 2006 (UTC) reply

I have stopped

Under the account User:Ilokon i tried to show you all that I had stopped, but they deleted everything I did. Please unprotect Wikipedia:Long term abuse/North Carolina vandal, User talk:A Man For The Glen, User talk:Dirkenstein, and User talk:Remington and the Rattlesnakes. Also unblock Remington and the Rattlesnakes. None of this will be used for anything bad. Deloty 03:52, 25 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Some people don't understant I have given up and they are blcking my accounts, although I am not using them to vandalize. Maybe you should make it more well known I have given up. The Robertson Quinn 01:59, 26 August 2006 (UTC) reply

So are you here as a good editor then? Post it to ANI. "Yes, I was the NCV. I'm promising not to vandalize any more. I'm not trolling. This is an honest post." Or something. The problem is that you've vandalized SO much, for more than a year, that people are jaded. But give it a try. People here are smart: they can tell when someone is sincere. Antandrus (talk) 02:06, 26 August 2006 (UTC) reply
I gave up vandalism last night, and posted it to AN/I, but it was quickly reverted. The Robertson Quinn 02:11, 26 August 2006 (UTC) reply

AOL IP 207.200.116.*** vandalism

I noticed that you had reverted this logo before, it has been vandalized again, and my reverts don't seem to work. Can you help? DVD+ R/W 22:51, 26 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Did you clear your cache? It looks fine to me. Mak (talk) 23:01, 26 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Nevermind, I got it. Thanks for the second opinion though. DVD+ R/W 23:15, 26 August 2006 (UTC) reply
Ah, yes: looks right. (I've had trouble with image reversions too. Sometimes it's cache.) Antandrus (talk) 23:27, 26 August 2006 (UTC) reply

I honestly have no memory of having written that. Looks like I am perfectly capable of writing crap. Oh well. Maybe I was drunk. I removed a lot of it. :-) Antandrus (talk) 00:45, 29 August 2006 (UTC) reply

RE: My userpage, Thanks!

Thank you for reverting that vandalism to my userpage. It's very odd to me, because I've never heard of this user, let alone interacted with him/her. Is this vandal just targeting userpages at random? Anyway, thanks again. -- Fsotrain 09 13:52, 30 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Oh dear :)

LOL, Antandrus is a Mensan and politically correct :) Anyway, I ran into this while attempting to research graduate musicology programs (got any suggestions, btw?) and thought you might get a kick out of The Browns they were from Cleveland. Who knew Ross Duffin (I hope that's a bluelink) was so into sports? Mak (talk) 19:37, 30 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Yeah, it's pretty hilarious. As for grad schools, Case Western looks pretty nice, but I think I'd really like to be on one of the two coasts (excepting Florida) or in England. I might be convinced to go to Austin, Texas or maybe Michigan, but they'd have to be really great and give me money. As that troll on my talk page kindly pointed out to me, I'm not fluent in languages other than English, so I'd rather not try to go to school in another language. Mak (talk) 19:47, 30 August 2006 (UTC) reply
Hm, so far actually, the only schools which have appealed to me are in California. I wonder what's up with that? Mak (talk) 20:06, 30 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Linza AfD

Thanks, for the sake of the sanity of a number of people, for voting delete in this AfD, but couldn't you have just deleted the wretched thing altogether and closed the AfD? It's been 5 days, and you are an admin...oh well, too late now! Cheers, Moreschi 19:43, 30 August 2006 (UTC) reply

OOPS!! I didn't even look at the start date. You're right. Too late, alas! Antandrus (talk) 19:45, 30 August 2006 (UTC) reply
Argggh...oh well, never mind. I don't see how any other decision can be to delete. Back to sanity, I've stuck a new paragraph into Opera... the one about Gluck... feel free to hack away!! Cheers, Moreschi 19:57, 30 August 2006 (UTC) reply

Image vandalism

Its sickening, but.... how about deleting their image vandalism versions? They'll just make another account to revert to the vandalism versions otherwise. I tried to enlist some admins to delete the vandalism, but so far they think that reverting is probably good enough. Kevin_b_er 04:42, 31 August 2006 (UTC) reply
