We'll I thought the comments were directed towards me because they followed my comments. I was not referring to the problems with the wiki page. I was discussing (on the discussion page) what my personal experience was. This was designed to bring information to the discussion. You don't realize that "Dr. Taylor's Methodology" refers to the finest education being deliverd to individuals with Autism. You must recognize that it it totally different than the way ABA is practiced in other environments. Hence the Harvard comparison. You can get an education at an community college or at Harvard but it is clearly not the same education. I thought I made my points in a totally nuetral way. She is a major influence in the field of ABA used in Autism treatment.She is an innovator coming up with many new strategies for treatment. These strategies are documents in scientific journals (see wiki page) and are being copied throughout the ABA world. Did Lovass invent ABA? no he made his contribution. Did Bridget Taylor invent ABA? no but she is making her contribution. Torobert 21:41, 30 January 2007 (UTC) reply

Comments on talk pages generally should be addressed to the 'community at large', though in practice they are not. When all you see is an IP address, you don't know who you are talking to, hence my frustration at continually repeating myself, never knowing if it's to the same person or six people with similar IP addresses. Congrats on getting a userid, it makes things much easier. Personal experiences of wikipedia editing are best kept on user talk pages. Personal experiences of the world at large should not be on wikipedia, unless you have a reliable source that documents a similar experience. I come back again to chelation therapy - if someone edits the Autism page saying 'Chelation therapy is the cure for autism' because it worked for them, what does that do to everyone else who it didn't work for? Or the parents of the kid that died because of it? What works for one person doesn't work for another, which is why reliable sources are so important. If you are going to be working on the autism pages, they get a lot of traffic and RS are really important.
I think I made my comments in a neutral way as well. It's virtually impossible to make it sound neutral on a talk page, but you do what you can. Anyway, if she really is a major influence on ABA, then it should be documentable with reliable sources.
Lovaas (who's wikipage is awful by the way) was the first person to document ABA improving the functioning of autistic kids, hence his notability. There are many people who contribute and refine, but do they all get a wikipage? That depends on degree I suppose. Anyway, I've gotta run. Please, contribute, but perhaps move away from the BT page. It's not the best example of how wikipedia should work, or how it does in reality. If you've got good experience and understanding of ABA, go check out those pages and add to them, or add to the behaviourism/behavioural techniques pages (with reliable sources, natch). Also, for things that are 'general knowledge' (though this is frowned upon), you can add it to the pages and if the other contributors 'tactically agree', it won't get removed. However, if you've got a source, even if the wording is changed, the core information and substantive content should stay up. Reliable sources includes published books by the way, they don't have to be electronic. WLU 22:11, 30 January 2007 (UTC) reply

Information icon Hello, Torobert. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{ request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. 2601:188:1:AEA0:BD6D:6704:FD43:F4A1 ( talk) 06:16, 12 March 2017 (UTC) reply
