I'll take a look at it over the next day or two. Granted, copyediting and checking like that is actually my weak spot when it comes to article building. Hi RyRy,
I am asking for a big favours of yours. I nominated the article Euro gold and silver commemorative coins (Austria) for featured list, but there were too many small grammar problems, so we decided to withdraw it, and do a peer review first. The list is complete and very well sourced. It also followed all he suggestions given in Euro gold and silver commemorative coins (Belgium) (recently promoted to featured list), so in general is in a very good shape. Only the description fields for the coins are in a need of a good copy/edit. Can you please help us to get this list promoted?

Baseball has a history unlike any other sport. It has been played in countless countries throughout the decades, and it will undoubtedly continue play for many more. On this eve, some the finest players the sport has to offer will take the field at the Yankee Stadium. Four popes spoke there, Pelé scored goals there, " The Greatest [football] Game Ever Played" was battled out there, John Philip Sousa lead a band there, George Costanza worked there; but what do all these events have in common? They fail to reach the level of greatness that the baseball that was played there did. In 1923, a man named Babe Ruth decided to build a new house, and over the years, that house was a home to some of the greatest baseball ever played. If I were to list out all of these great moments, it would be longer than the bill for the New Yankee Stadium. So I'll sum it up by saying that we can remember these great moments by adding them to this place we've gathered at for future generations to read about, to learn about, to dream about; but more importantly we can watch tonight and we can remember how baseball is unlike anything else that we will encounter in our lives. — Black ngold29 |

You need to have at least half the articles about non-US subjects, interleaved so that the US-related hooks aren't adjacent to one another. Another thing to look out for is putting two "people" hooks adjacent to one another, or two "building" hooks, or any two hooks about the same subject. Gatoclass ( talk) 08:33, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Hello there!
I have begun laying the groundwork for a new WikiProject that has a very simple goal, to improve Wikipedia by dealing with the articles tagged for copy edit, and I am wondering if you are interested in helping me start it. This project is not a clone of WP:LOCE because we will not deal with requests for review (that is currently handled by our good friends over at Peer Review).
I expect that this will be a relaxed, happy and casual WikiProject, because participants will be able to take things at their own pace and use the project page to ask other participants for help. The project proposal is here, and I have created an almost-functional project page in my userspace here.
There are now over 4000 articles needing copy edit, and very, very few people working on them, so any help, however small, is appreciated. If you are interested, please sign up at the proposal page. Once we have enough people, I will shift the project page, along with its subpages from my userspace into the Wikipedia namespace. For now we can use this section of my talk page to discuss the direction and details of the project, and, of course, its name. *grin*
Cheers!- Samuel Tan 12:32, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
Good hello, just a quick note asking you to reconsider your closing of the AfD for National-Anarchism before it goes to DRV. I know I was a lone voice crying out for its removal but I really don't think anyone else bothered to read the sources, they ALL fail WP:RS, white=power websites, conspiracy theory, people's homepages, and propaganda from the subject of the article. There is not a single reliable source in the whole article. Cheers. L0b0t ( talk) 23:21, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Well, I promised you a review, so here goes….. I think at the minute, you’ve got a very good mix of edits. Your work at DYK is fantastic – you do a really good job at reviewing hooks and clearly understand the process. I’ve looked at your mainspace edits, and again, your cleanup/maintenance edits are great. Can I suggest creating a few articles? It’s actually really good fun and you learn a hell of a lot. When you see an article you’ve created in the DYK section of the main page, you get a real buzz! Also, it might be a good idea to add more content to articles – even if it’s just references, it helps the encyclopedia more than cleanup or tagging. You state on your userpage that you comment on AfD’s – I’m not seeing a lot of it if I’m being honest. You might want to start participating more in these discussions, but remember, always link to policy and try and improve the article in question before commenting – saving articles is far better than commenting to delete if there are sources available. Your vandal fighting is also good, and you clearly know when to report users – just don’t neglect other parts of the encyclopedia with this type of work. There are a few concerns about going through RfA just at this minute – In your earlier days, people got the impression you used the site like myspace. I think that you need a little longer to shake that off, but I fully respect you have now reformed completely. Another concern is your user rights log, where there was clearly misuse of rollback in the past. Now, this has improved completely and you’re clearly using the tool responsibly, but there would be concerns that not enough time has past from misuse of the minor rollback tool for you to be trusted with more powerful admin tools. If you wanted to go through RfA, I’d suggest waiting about 3 more months and keep doing as you do, maybe adding more content and commenting on more AfD’s. Hope that helps, and if you need anymore advice, you know where to find me! All the best, Ryan Postlethwaite 02:52, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Hello, RyRy. Be a little careful when greeting some users, like this one. Users such as these tend to be vandalism-only accounts and blocked immediately. They are also commonly created by User:Grawp. So, I guess when you see a username like that, you should just leave the talk page alone, as no one will really add a block tag or inappropriate username tag if they are created by Grawp. Thanks! Hi Ry2,
I just took a long hard look at your edits, and do not think you would be a good candidate for admin coaching. IMHO, Admin Coaching is for the person who is capable of being an admin, but needs some help navigating and learning the ropes. It is for the person who isn't quite there yet. You, are there. You've made some mistakes, namely the one's you pointed out on my talk page, but nothing that will kill you in the future (just keep the roll backs clean for 2+ more months.) You already do most of what I would advise you to do: 1) You are active in a number of adminly areas---I love it when people work at the help desk. 2) You act like an admin and people come to you seeking your help/advise. 3) You have diverse interest and a broad foot print in several areas. 4) You've acknowledged and made amends for your errors. You have articles that you've worked on, I would suggest working to develop some more beyond the DYK phase---is Baseball targetting any articles for improvement? If it wasn't for the roll back issues being so recent, I would have considered writing up an RfA you right now (The only thing I didn't look at too closely was CSD's, but they look ok.)--- The other thing that I think might hurt you is that you appear to have been involved with the Award Center. While I'm all in favor or recognizing others for their contributions and love the idea of barnstars, I firmly opposed the Award center. It recognized quantity not quality of work. My impression of people who went there seeking barnstars is not that high. Your one saving grace in this area, is that I actually saw somebody asking about giving you a barnstar, and you told him not to. PArt of the reason why I wouldn't recommend it for you, is because it would be seen as Gaming the System. I'm a huge advocate of Admin Coaching, but I think it is incumbent upon coaches not to accept candidates who don't need coaching... when they do, it looks as if the coaching is in place to game the system to "polish" the candidate. You, IMHO, fall into that category. If you were to be coached, it wouldn't be because you have a glaring need/weakness. Of course, you may see an area of need that I'm missing... why do you want coaching? What would you hope to gain from it?--- Balloonman PoppaBalloon 05:13, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do. I have a lot on my plate right now, both on and off-wiki, so don't expect a whole lot out of me. « Gonzo fan2007 ( talk ♦ contribs) @ 02:59, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
Hey Ryan, I have a quick question. I have this page, full of show/hide lines. Do you know of a way to put these lines in columns, with probably three articles per row. It would be like:
A......[show] | B......[show] | C......[show] |
D......[show] | E......[show] | F......[show] |

*grin*

Sorry Haven't been on in a while could you make the following User Box's for me:

Just a heads-up: You have a query at Wikipedia talk:2008 main page redesign proposal/RyRy#A tiny incongruity. Best, — Animum ( talk) 23:28, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
By "appropriate category," did you mean "New article self-nom."? If so, I have added that. Thanks, Malinaccier ( talk) 01:42, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Two of your recent comments at WT:RFA have included some strange HTML code in them. Specifically this and this. I've removed both, but I'm kinda' wondering what's up with them. Got any ideas? Cheers. -- lifebaka ( talk - contribs) 03:08, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Hello. Just wondering if you would mind taking a look at a collaborative effort I'm trying to start. Any feedback or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! DxNate 18:02, 14 Jul 2024 User- Talk- Contribs
Sorry for the late response. To be honest, I have absolutely no idea... could you provide an example? Nousernamesleft ( talk) 20:53, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi there - I just wanted to ask why you undid the changes I made to the Warren Wald page? I was trying to tidy it up and improve it and would be glad to know what I did wrong. I'll pop back here to check for your reply. Thanks! -- 82.0.172.18 ( talk) 22:36, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Okay thanks - I undid it but took out the forbidden link and thought that would be okay - I'll head back and do it correctly. Thanks for the answer. -- 82.0.172.18 ( talk) 22:45, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
I give up! - I was just trying to improve references and the article, the Bot told me off for adding a youtube link which I understand but now every time I try and make an improvement it gets reverted by someone accusing me of vandalism. I'll get myself a username for the future. -- 82.0.172.18 ( talk) 08:55, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! Thank you for cleaning up this article! By the way, could you help proofread Félix Houphouët-Boigny--I'm shooting for FA. Also, when did you change your name? I just noticed it now. --I'm an Editor of the wiki citation needed 23:44, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
It looks worse than ever and I dont want to lose the 3 brothers having their own article because we never followed through. They earned it, they are positive role models in an industry that is synonymous with a city of moral filth--hollywood. Thanks and hope you'll make the pages not an embarassment. Its locked right now, and I dont know how to make major changes. My contribs to wikipedia are never more than a sentence or a type-o. I saw your list of contribs and we need some where it actually matters and benefits the most fans. 76.4.128.40 ( talk) 03:00, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi Ry2,
I just took a long hard look at your edits, and do not think you would be a good candidate for admin coaching.
