This bot, as it currently operates, is a menace. It not simply alters content, but removes and marks it for deletion. The entire point of policing images for copyright vios is so Jimbo won't get sued. This means being able to DISCRIMINATE between Orphan images which pose a high risk of this from those which donot. So please explain how a map of The Tetrarchy of Diocletian or a photo of an ancient bas relief potraying members of the Praetorian Guard or of the British army's Military Cross fits this criteria? At the very LEAST your bot should INFORM the uploader of the problem. This should be a small task for an expert programmer such as yourself. There are certain jobs for which bots are unsuitable. As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.
In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{ EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)
Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --

I was just having a look across RFA, which I don't tend to look at too regularly. It definitely seems to be getting more stringent these days. Some of the current RFAs are painful to look at (Ec5618 and Adam1213's in particular). RFAs have a tendency to become RFCs all too easily, just ask poor Halibutt. The talk page item What is going on makes interesting reading (and a good subject for poor quality puns in talk page headers). Leith p 08:54, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi RDH, thanks for participating in my RfA discussion. Unfortunately, my fellow Wikipedians have decided at this time that I am not suitable to take on this additional responsibility, as the RfA failed with a result of 66/27/5 (71.0% support). If you voted in support of my request, thank you! If you decided to oppose me at this time, then I hope that if I do choose to reapply in the future, the effort I will make in the meantime to improve and expand my contributions to Wikipedia may persuade you to reconsider your position. I saw Nick Cave was in town last night for a gig and it reminded me of one of his old albums, back from when he was a great songwriter. The title is a quote from the King James bible, not that I'm religious but it seemed appropriate. The quotation itself refers to fighting back against goading only leading to pain, but I have a sneaky suspicion that Cave meant it another sense as well. Take from that what you will..... It's funny apparently i'm following Jimbo's beliefs better than Jimbo seems to be at the moment. I hope he can open his eyes and see that acting above the law will do nothing but raise enmity towards himself rather than help solve disputes, but in the meantime i'm going to stick around if I can assist people with things.

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".
The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.
Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

Oh yeah! That's a good idea, but i'd suggest caution (a subst rather than a template) not because it's a bad idea, but because Tony or one of the Cabal's goons will unilaterally delete it 70 times, and then we'll have another TFD with everybody going insane and blah blah blah. I wouldn't mind the fight with them, but i'd prefer to do other things if I could avoid it, so the subst would probably be a better idea. Karm a fist 03:42, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

I know you are a pretty veteran user, so rather than posting an automated {{image source|Image:Tetrarch system.PNG}} notification, I'll just inform you that Image:Tetrarch system.PNG has no source. It's kind of hard to claim fair use, especially since a free alternative should be available, especially with a higher resolution, and there's well, no source. This makes it a likely chance to be a copyright violation. If you somehow have more information about the image and its license, please insert it in the image description tag. Otherwise, it faces deletion. Cheers! Elle vécut heureuse à jamais ( Be eudaimonic!) 18:54, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

I've seen things that would scare Stephen King, Clive Barker, Wes Craven when I was a kid, along with trigger happy morons. The Robertson Panel, which was initiated by the CIA (seen other evidence other than what is here in the Wikipedia article) is intended to make those who have had bizarre experiences, are interested in these matters look like idiots and fools. While I was travelling "Out West" as a prospector, people have flat out told me (polite) that IF there is alien contact at all, they'll revolt for religious reasons, such as, "The Devil is after our souls and the govt. is working with Satan !" and/or out of revenge for being made a fool of and/or a idiot, "insane", as persuant to the Robertson Panel protocol and that of the Brookings Report. One guy told me that if he saw something bizarre, that(polite) no one will make him out to be some kind of laughingstock, he'll shoot the accuser instead. Out West, disputes like that are settled in blood, by a shot in the dark or by gutting with a knife. I am no longer out there at all. It is amazing what kind of people you run into. I have just as much right to insist they be included as he does to exclude them. Deleting an entire, longstanding section from an article arbitraily is WRONG. We are supposed to be BUILDING a fucking encyclopedia here not dismantalling one. Besides, the Rommel collection on Wikiquotes is pathetic compared to this one. Also, I would ask you to keep any further discussion of this on the article's TALK PAGE.-- R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 22:53, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
My problem with that quotes section, which I brought up on the talk page a while back, is that it's basically unsourced. At one point people seemed to be quoting lines from the film Patton, which bears a fairly tenuous relationship to the truth in many places, let alone the fact that the words were those of a Hollywood scriptwriter. Rather than moving to wikiquote, is there value in doing a purge on the unsourced lines and asking for people to provide a reference before they are returned? Leith p 08:29, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

Spawn Man 01:56, 19 January 2006 (UTC). BTW, What's this talk of you working on two other "Grande" articles with out asking me to collaberate? Think me worthless do ye? Well that's fine.....
Just so you know, that after a full year long recovery from the tse tse immune defective virus, The Hardest Questions in the World Section is back on my user page!! Don't be too quick to tire the section out too quickly, but make sure you pop round to make sure you get a good score on the leader's board.... Spawn Man 04:56, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
Courtesy of a power supply gone BOOM, I've been on an unexpected Wikibreak the past week. Essentials (notably Firefox, GMail, TFC and of course the Wiki:) have been restored...essentially...on a new system under a new OS. But I've still got mucho catching up so apologies for the tardiness of my responses. Tis great to be back! I've missed this glorious meeting of distant minds. Salute Encore Mes Camerades!-- R.D.H. You are currently 3rd on the leader's board, being behind of 2nd place by 1 point. Spawn Man 03:01, 23 January 2006 (UTC). BTW, did you see the glogg question was answered? Cool aye?
(Don't think you're getting your pebble back now.... MUAHAHA......) Spawn Man 00:42, 26 January 2006 (UTC). BTW, posted another useless pic in your wacky captions....

I had an hard time understanding what septentrionalis said on his talk page, by the way you are welcome in helping..-- Philx 13:04, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Man, you shoulda have advised me for this admin thing i voted only now...... -- Philx 20:53, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
What's up with Ghirla, Giano & Bichon-what's-his-name? Why are they so anti-R.D.H right now? It sounds wierd to me that calling someone a Russkie could condure up such hatred. What's the real story aye? Spawn Man 00:55, 3 February 2006 (UTC). BTW, I left further comments up above. Again hope I didn't hurt your feelings with my practical joke, my humour gets into mind control territory too often....
All the best, Proto t c 10:44, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi bro, what is the percentage good to be lected admin? An you will won with thos current votes? Sorry for the silly question -- Philx 21:06, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Leith p 10:31, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
I saw that your RfA had failed. Although it is a sad day for all, you can't let it get on top of you. I guess there's no hope for me, cause if you didn't get in, I'm never gonna get in! If they think you're incivil, man, what are they gonna dig up on me! Should be hilarious! Anyway, time for a new start. I think we need it. Badly. I still can't believe it failed, you only had under half the amount opposing you! Anyway..... Spawn Man 23:42, 5 February 2006 (UTC). BTW, I might not be on for a while... matters I have to see to.....
I would like to thank you for your support for my candidacy for the Military history WikiProject coordinator position. Sorry about my comments at WT:RFA. I am in policy discussion mode there and don't always consider the motives that may be involved in such issues such as adjusting a final count. I encourage you and Spawn Man to stick around and remember you have a lot of friends around and you can ignore your detractors. NoSeptember talk 13:35, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

However, i've said all I probably need to say on that arbcom case, and i'll just let them handle it from there unless they have any more questions. Karm a fist 14:29, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

If you get a chance would you mind having another look at this article I've just self-nominated the article for WP:FAC and would appreciate your comments?

Hi there Ghost.
Thanks for the invite to the Napoleonics Taskforce. I'd be more than happy to join (and i've added my name). Also, thanks for the link to the Davout page. Quite interesting stuff. Cheers again -- ansbachdragoner 23:17, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
Excellent work translating the Battle of Lugdunum article into French. Wikipedia needs more of this sort of inter-language cross-pollination. Bien Fait, Monsieur!-- R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 18:54, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

I agree with those sediments. It is a wrong-headed piece of corrupt legislation which only encourages Intellectual protectionism and Patent trolls. Such laws demand challenge and defiance. Cheers-- R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 08:19, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

Dunno if you're aware of it but you're on a list of the 100 most edited user talk pages (see the Signpost article). And this may help bump it up a space. Leith p 08:31, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
Why did you revert the edits without comment? The changes to the opening paragraph are valid, as pointed out in the talk page - Vedexent 19:26, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Yes - now I have your replies, and the discussion continues. For future reference, if you're going to do mass reverts without pissing off people who have put the time and effort into the editing, you might at least comment the revert, or put something in the talk page - Vedexent 20:40, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Thank you! Thank you for your support in my recent RFA. It passed 53/1/2 and I am now an administrator. I appreciate that some of you made exceptions to your usual requirements re length of service and so on because we've interracted positively in the past, or because of my credentials, so I will endeavour to use my new mop cautiously. I'm always open to feedback and gently constructive criticism. If you're not an admin and need some assistance do of course please let me know. Thanks again -- kingboyk 00:23, 6 March 2006 (UTC) |
P.S. If you are interested in The Beatles, User:Lar has asked me to tag on a little note advertising the creation of a new Beatles WikiProject that we are currently setting up. Please sign up and help.
