MassRFD

Hi. Is there an RfD equivalent of MassCfD? -- MikutoH talk! 22:58, 2 May 2024 (UTC) reply

MikutoH, no, but I could write a modified version of MassCFD for RfD if that would be helpful. —  Qwerfjkl talk 13:59, 3 May 2024 (UTC) reply
That would be helpful. Though I think most of y'all use XFDcloser or something, I guess it requires so user groups/status. -- MikutoH talk! 03:28, 8 May 2024 (UTC) reply
MikutoH, XFDcloser is for closing discussions, not starting them. —  Qwerfjkl talk 16:54, 9 May 2024 (UTC) reply
For what it's worth, myself and at least a few others at NPP would love this type of feature. Hey man im josh ( talk) 15:21, 10 May 2024 (UTC) reply

Hey man im josh, MikutoH, you can try User:Qwerfjkl/scripts/massXFD.js. I haven't tested it much so I'd warn against really large nominations when you're not prepared to revert your edits.
Let me know what you think, and how I could improve it, as well as any bugs you find. Particularly it could break MassCfD (don't use both scripts at once).
Just wanted to get something out there instead of leaving you hanging. It should work fine, but undoubtedly they'll be at least a few bugs. —  Qwerfjkl talk 17:51, 16 May 2024 (UTC) reply
It didn't work somehow. I use English Wikipedia in English but my edits acted as if it was in Portuguese, is it because of the language of my PC/browser? -- MikutoH talk! 23:35, 16 May 2024 (UTC) reply

It worked now. But it didn't notify one user since different users created the redirects ( flexisexual/ flexisexuality). -- MikutoH talk! 04:49, 18 May 2024 (UTC) reply
It didn't even notify anyone in gastrosexual/ gastrosexuality -- MikutoH talk! 04:54, 18 May 2024 (UTC) reply
It was also misplaced -- MikutoH talk! 16:19, 18 May 2024 (UTC) reply
┌─────────────────────────────────┘
MikutoH, the latter problem was fairly easy to fix - the script was adding the nominations in the wrong place, so every else using Twinkle added their newer nominations below ( e.g.). I'll have a look at the other issue. —  Qwerfjkl talk 18:38, 18 May 2024 (UTC) reply
I've also fixed the issue of users not being notified. It was because they were idefinitely blocked, and the script skips notifying indefinitely blocked users. In this case, however, the block was only partial, so I've fixed the script accordingly. —  Qwerfjkl talk 18:53, 18 May 2024 (UTC) reply
Ok. Another thing is notifying target's talk pages (in hard redirects). -- MikutoH talk! 19:21, 19 May 2024 (UTC) reply
MikutoH, I'll start working on that. —  Qwerfjkl talk 19:54, 19 May 2024 (UTC) reply
A possible improvement suggestion would be selecting redirects from "Page information" page like Cat-a-lot. Not sure if this would be too complex. -- MikutoH talk! 23:08, 23 May 2024 (UTC) reply
@ MikutoH I absolutely love that idea. It's absolutely one of the most common scenarios when you'd batch redirect nominations. Hopefully this won't be too tough an ask, because I'm quite hyped about the idea. Hey man im josh ( talk) 00:27, 24 May 2024 (UTC) reply
Hey man im josh, at that point you're better off finding another script that can output the titles in text format, and just pasting that into MassXFD. —  Qwerfjkl talk 10:06, 24 May 2024 (UTC) reply
Good point actually. Why overcomplicate things :P Hey man im josh ( talk) 10:45, 24 May 2024 (UTC) reply
It seems MassCFD has the same problem about browser language. And I tried submitting a merging MassXFD for categories and it simply don't go anywhere. -- MikutoH talk! 23:43, 24 May 2024 (UTC) reply
MikutoH, yes, I haven't updated MassCFD.js - you can use MassXFD instead, that should work. There was a bug in MassXFD where it essentially used an RfD check for CfD, which I fixed earlier and I've just updated the script for now. —  Qwerfjkl talk 08:26, 25 May 2024 (UTC) reply

Question from Coaches 101 (09:33, 15 May 2024)

How do I create an article called /info/en/?search=Quarantine_Ring_the_alarm_challenge, I am new to this and I want to get it right. Its a song issued by Tyrese Gibson, and I want to know what is the best practices to write this article? -- Coaches 101 ( talk) 09:33, 15 May 2024 (UTC) reply

Coaches 101, Welcome! Creating a new article from scratch is extremely challenging, and new editors are strongly recommended to spend a few months learning how Wikipedia works, by making improvements to some of our existing seven million articles before trying it. When you do decide to have a go at a new article, you are highly encouraged to read WP:Your first article. If you haven't already also check out WP:TUTORIAL; it's a lot of fun! Happy editing! —  Qwerfjkl talk 14:14, 15 May 2024 (UTC) reply
I created an article here: would this violate Wikipedia standards?
User:Coaches 101/sandbox - Wikipedia Coaches 101 ( talk) 09:41, 16 May 2024 (UTC) reply
Coaches 101, that looks too promotional for Wikipedia. I'd also encourage you to support statements with references, especially ones that are reliable and independant of the subject. —  Qwerfjkl talk 14:59, 16 May 2024 (UTC) reply
How can the footnotes be added on as references? What are reliable sources, if editors will still think the information is promotional? Coaches 101 ( talk) 10:03, 20 May 2024 (UTC) reply
Coaches 101, reliable sources should be independant of the subject. See Help:Referencing for beginners. —  Qwerfjkl talk 16:21, 20 May 2024 (UTC) reply

Bug in MassCFD

Hi Qwerfjkl! Thanks again for making MassCFDS. I truly appreciate it.

One of its features has crept into MassCFD. The old drop-down options (e.g. delete, rename, etc.) are gone, and have been replaced with C2A (rename) etc. Would you be able to fix this? Thanks, House Blaster ( talk · he/him) 00:14, 22 May 2024 (UTC) reply

HouseBlaster, strange, possibly a variable name conflict. Which scripts do you have installed? Right now I'm working on User:Qwerfjkl/scripts/massXFD.js, to handle mass CfD and RfD nominations - I haven't tested it yet, but it might work. —  Qwerfjkl talk 06:18, 22 May 2024 (UTC) reply
I should probably let you know that I am out of town for the next few days, so I probably won't be able to reply / close CfDs and I definitely can't troubleshoot (sorry!). Maybe ignore for now and we can reconvene on Friday? Best, House Blaster ( talk · he/him) 11:53, 22 May 2024 (UTC) reply

Dear community members,

The Community Affairs Committee (CAC) of the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees invites you to give feedback on a draft Procedure for Sibling Project Lifecycle. This draft Procedure outlines proposed steps and requirements for opening and closing Wikimedia Sibling Projects, and aims to ensure any newly approved projects are set up for success. This is separate from the procedures for opening or closing language versions of projects, which is handled by the Language Committee or closing projects policy.

You can find the details on this page, as well as the ways to give your feedback from today until the end of the day on June 23, 2024, anywhere on Earth.

You can also share information about this with the interested project communities you work with or support, and you can also help us translate the procedure into more languages, so people can join the discussions in their own language.

python/pywikibot error

Hello. I hope you are doing well. I became co-maintainer of Muninnbot. It has been inactive for almost 1.8 years. I tried to test-run, and resolve the current script, but I have been unable to. The script is at /data/project/muninnbot/tea-test.py, and the error I keep getting is at /data/project/muninnbot/tea-test.out If possible, would you kindly help me with getting that script/bot running again? —usernamekiran (talk) 12:23, 22 May 2024 (UTC) reply

Usernamekiran, from what I can tell the issue is due to Discussion Tools. Calling get_sections_from_revid(783718598)[:2 returns:
[{'anchor': 'Request:_World_Cafe',
  'byteoffset': 3329,
  'extensionData': {'DiscussionTools-html-summary': '<span '
                                                    'class="ext-discussiontools-init-sidebar-meta">6 '
                                                    'comments</span>'},
  'fromtitle': 'Wikipedia:Teahouse',
  'index': '1',

  'line': 'Request: World Cafe',
  'linkAnchor': 'Request:_World_Cafe',
  'number': '1',

 {'anchor': 'How_to_publish_my_page',
  'byteoffset': 8292,
  'extensionData': {'DiscussionTools-html-summary': '<span '
                                                    'class="ext-discussiontools-init-sidebar-meta">4 '
                                                    'comments</span>'},
  'fromtitle': 'Wikipedia:Teahouse',
  'index': '2',
  'level': '2',
'line': 'How to publish my page',
  'linkAnchor': 'How_to_publish_my_page',
  'number': '2',
  'toclevel': 1}]
But what it expects is
[{'anchor': 'Request:_World_Cafe',
     'byteoffset': 3329,
     'fromtitle': 'Wikipedia:Teahouse',
     'index': '1',
     'level': '2',
     'line': 'Request: World Cafe',
     'number': '1',
     'toclevel': 1},
    {'anchor': 'How_to_publish_my_page',

Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 May 23#Category:Categories without CatAutoTOC and friends

Hi! Any particular reason you relisted Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 May 23#Category:Categories without CatAutoTOC and friends? Gonnym, the only person to comment on the nomination in 2.5 weeks, supported it. (their comment reads, with emphasis added, The only one to use this category really has been banned and there really is no indication what purpose this serve once the data was collected. So agree with proposal. If at any point in the future this or something similar is needed, recreating isn't that difficult.) Best, House Blaster ( talk · he/him) 00:14, 25 May 2024 (UTC) reply

HouseBlaster, yes, I read their comment. On second thoughts, it porbably didn't need relisting.
Unfortunately I'm going to be away for the next week or so - I'm going on holiday in America. I'll hopefully still be around to answer questions, but I probably won't be able to do much more than that. —  Qwerfjkl talk 08:31, 25 May 2024 (UTC) reply
I wouldn't say that is an unfortunate[] thing—IRL trumps Wikipedia :D. As an American, hope you enjoy the states! House Blaster ( talk · he/him) 14:31, 25 May 2024 (UTC) reply

@ Moosa1312, why did you move the pages? My bot previously moved them in line with an RfC result; the moves should not be unilaterally reverted. —  Qwerfjkl talk 19:13, 16 May 2024 (UTC) reply

HouseBlaster, sounds good to me, I'll try to take care of closing CfDs until then. —  Qwerfjkl talk 12:40, 22 May 2024 (UTC) reply

python/pywikibot error

                                                    'class="ext-discussiontools-init-sidebar-meta">6 '
                                                    'comments</span>'},
  'fromtitle': 'Wikipedia:Teahouse',
  'index': '1',
  'level': '2',
  'line': 'Request: World Cafe',
  'linkAnchor': 'Request:_World_Cafe',
  'number': '1',
  'toclevel': 1},
 {'anchor': 'How_to_publish_my_page',
  'byteoffset': 8292,
  'extensionData': {'DiscussionTools-html-summary': '<span '
                                                    'class="ext-discussiontools-init-sidebar-meta">4 '
                                                    'comments</span>'},
  'fromtitle': 'Wikipedia:Teahouse',
  'index': '2',
  'level': '2',
'line': 'How to publish my page',
  'linkAnchor': 'How_to_publish_my_page',
  'number': '2',
  'toclevel': 1}]
But what it expects is
[{'anchor': 'Request:_World_Cafe',
     'byteoffset': 3329,
     'fromtitle': 'Wikipedia:Teahouse',
     'index': '1',
     'level': '2',
     'line': 'Request: World Cafe',
     'number': '1',
     'toclevel': 1},
    {'anchor': 'How_to_publish_my_page',
     'byteoffset': 8292,
     'fromtitle': 'Wikipedia:Teahouse',
     'index': '2',
     'level': '2',
'line': 'How to publish my page',
     'number': '2',
     'toclevel': 1}

Without the extensionData. —  Qwerfjkl talk 12:53, 22 May 2024 (UTC) reply

Lint's on other projects...

Namely English Wikibooks which I'd been chipping away at manually.. https://en.wikibooks.org/?title=Special:LintErrors/misnested-tag&dir=prev&offset=1221440&exactmatch=&tag=all&template=all&titlecategorysearch=&wpNamespaceRestrictions=

Any chance of adapting your recently approved bot to English Wikibooks and English Wikisource? ShakespeareFan00 ( talk) 18:41, 25 May 2024 (UTC) reply

Should be easier as {{ center/top}} {{ center/end}} exist on Wikibooks. And {{ font}}, {{ font/top}}, {{ font/end}} also. I can provide more information if needed.. ShakespeareFan00 ( talk) 18:41, 25 May 2024 (UTC) reply
