I have been searching Wikipedia-commons for a way to upload an original photo to my article: Laytongku. Although I have searched several pages I still cannot find the right thing to click on for this. As a result my search has led me to this Talk page. I also understand an InfoBox has first to be established in which to insert the photo...can someone lead me to find the right section for instructions for adding an Infobox? Palukiwa ( talk) 21:10, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
I started to place a photo taken by a friend who gave it to me to use on a Wikipedia article and which I uploaded as thumb But it caused a discussion since although it has a copyright but free use for me I don't know how to explain it. I would like it to be the head photo of my article: Draft:Telakan Karen of Laytongku. What should I do. I don't want to get into trouble with Wikipedia but I really want to use this photo since I was there when Jean Michel Frederick took it and offered it in an exchange with photos I took at the same time. Palukiwa ( talk) 22:07, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
When it seemed Wikipedia questioned my use of the first photo I selected I uploaded a second photo; File:Telakan villagers in traditional dress at daily tasks in Laytongku.jpg and on my Draft:Telakan Karen of Laytongku it is only shown as a caption (no photo) so I assume photos do not show up on Drafts...am I correct in thinking that? If so then perhaps I can continue working on my draft article. Thank you in advance for any info you might seem worthy for me to know on this. I want to be discrete in the photos, very few, I wish to use so as not to overload the article with them. So they have to tell at least 1,000 words each. Palukiwa ( talk) 22:15, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
I see I left out the word Karen...my errour. Thank you for pointing this out since in my written notes to add the photo I left out the word Karen so when I went to place it I typed it incorrectly. I will try again and see what happens. I am also working on resolving the issue concerning the Sacred Elephant Tusk photo. Palukiwa ( talk) 15:25, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
Wikipedia seems to have a network similar to the N'avi of the Pandora Planet...so I am answering you here as you indicated and I have a question since you have the logical and simple directives for what I need right now. How do I attach a second photo to my article Laytongku? I read the directives as were given but ...too many works and too many terms I am not familiar with but no logigical simple directive like you know and have mastered. I have received an Email from Jean Michel Frederick giving me full use of all his copyrighted photos but exclusive for me to use and not to be considered 'Free Photos" for any other to use. He inicated also he would endeavor to work out the details with Wikipedia directly over this weekend or 18 September 2017 latest. Palukiwa ( talk) 15:18, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
I have contacted the Bangkok Post for the procedure for re-publication permission of two photos of the Sacred Tusks on their news article: Ancient carved tusks stolen from Karen village, 10 June 2017 for my Draft:Telakan Karen of Laytongku in case Jean Michel Frederick prefers not to release his photo as a 'free' to be used by anyone and since I do not want to pressure him on this hope the Bangkok Post will release theirs for my use. Palukiwa ( talk) 21:12, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
Citing a Source Is there any restriction concerning the number of times a source can be cited in a Wikipedia article provided that the source is a reliable published work with a Library of Congress ISBN number and copyright is held by the user who wrote and had the work published and who is creating the Wikipedia article? In other words - Is one allowed to use their own publication as source material? Palukiwa ( talk) 03:42, 16 September 2017 (UTC)
Additionally - If the work is published in England and eligible to be accepted in the Bodleian Library (all books or papers showing they are printed in England are eligible to be placed in the Bodleian) or Thailand in conjunction with Oxford, England by The Siam Society what makes this work eligible to be used by Wikipedia in a Wikipedia article. Is the author able to cite his own book as a reference source. What means does Wikipedia approve this work to be acceptable source material? In other words what does Wikipedia require the author to do to make his own work acceptable since the author holds the copyright and is willing to allow it to be cited even if using the same quoting word for word in the Wikipedia article as is in the published work? On the other hand can a self-published work be used as a source if it is available and found in a notable college, university or public library? What notations are required for citation? Palukiwa ( talk) 04:15, 16 September 2017 (UTC)
I have removed the File:Talaku Karen of Laytongku, Siam Society & Oxford Edition, Theaum Press.jpg. As the writer, publisher and editor of Theaum Press I hold the copyright, however, when a similar edition is forwarded to and is published by the Siam Society Journal and entered into the Oxford University archives at the Bodleian Library it will be used for citing and referencing. I only added my published and copyrighted edition for Wikipedia administrators to be aware of its existence and know of the future SSJ publication in Bangkok, Thailand. It has served its purpose on my draft to date. Palukiwa ( talk) 20:41, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
In case you didn´t notice, the talkpage comment you made was to a discussion that had been quiet since 2007. Nothing wrong with that, but in general, comments in very old discussions are (even) less likely to be noticed by anyone. Good luck with your editing! Thanks for uploading File:Eldest Talaku Karen villager and new found Phu Chaik of Laytongku.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{ non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you for uploading File:Sacred Elephant Tusks of Laytongku.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ✗ plicit 11:30, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
