Hallo, you've changed the picture of a Dune userbox (that I host in my userspace) some time ago. I don't like it with this picture and will revert this. If you like the other version better you can always get your own ubx in your space. Also please don't mark such a change as minor. Thanks. Bisco 17:30, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
One, I hope you don't mind I tagged the Kagawa district cat you created this morning. I think the rationale for of/in is that they don't actually exist anymore, so they aren't "in" anywhere. When I made the 県別 for the municipalities and the districts, I just took the parent cats names ( Category:Dissolved municipalities of Japan and Category:Dissolved districts of Japan).
Second, there was a bit of confusion around Uehara Azumi and Azumi Uehara. A new user created both articles with identical content. A second user made a redirect from the MOS-JA correct (Given Family) order to the other one. I don't know if I should just revert the redirect, or, if it is best handled by deleting the one article and starting over. Maybe someday, I'll get up the nerve to throw the rest of my free time out the window and RFA so I can stop bothering you about stuff like this. :-) Neier 05:46, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Please be advised that I have filed an appeal to try to reinstate the Boyce article -- the former Louisiana party chairman from the 1970s.

Akanemoto has made several thousand edits in recent months. More than 90% are to his userspace, and it's all in Japanese. I'm tempted to file an WP:MFD against these pages, but first it's necessary to know what's in them, and if it has some purpose related to the encyclopedia. Please take a look at his user contributions and decide whether a deletion discussion is appropriate. Thank you. 129.98.212.164 01:42, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Heya. Thanks again for your extensive work on this list - I do think it'll come in quite useful in future. I am curious, however, about the romaji readings given for each placename. For many of these, I understand where the "standard" reading comes from, and thus why it would be unusual or unexpected for the actual reading to be the one used. Two examples of these many are Chitose, Hokkaido, which is written as 幌美内 (Poropinai) and Ishinomaki, Miyagi (合戦谷, Kasegai).
However, there are a number (I'm looking primarily at the Okinawan ones, now, only because those are the ones which happened to catch my eye) for which the romaji name given is just as... unexpected or unusual as the actual placename. Tomigusuku (保栄茂), which is given as "Bin" in the romaji column, is one such glaring example - no matter how you parse that, no matter which on/kun readings you use, there's no way that three kanji can together be read "bin", right?
I'm not trying to criticize or attack you, nor do I wish to suggest that you/we should look over every single one on this entire list to make sure they all make sense. I'm just curious if these romaji readings are all taken directly from the Japanese page you translated, or where they come from. Just wanted to point out the inconsistency - could be something as minor as an oversight or typo. Thanks. LordAmeth 22:09, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Hiya. The above is from a conversation I began on User:Fg2's talk page, accidentally confusing him for the person- you- who's been doing all the work on that page. I'm still a bit confused as to the logic of the romaji column. If the romaji is supposed to represent a normal, natural way of guessing at the pronunciation of the characters, and the location column is meant to give the actual (unusual) placename, then why are so many of the romaji entries inscrutable? LordAmeth 08:33, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Neier is correct in what each column is for. Thanks, Fg2, for adding the explanation to the page itself. I didn't think of that since I was the one doing the paqge and I knew what each column was for. And yes, some of the pronunciations of place names are very bizarre and unusual. A few of them really surprised me when i was transliterating. (^_^) ··· 日本穣 ? · Talk to Nihon joe 18:51, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi; a new explosion of discussion has started on the talk page. The good news is luckily, everyone involved has more or less stayed civil and really stayed to the talk page (I don't recall seeing any edit wars related to this recently, which is really great).
There was significant discussion of why the previous poll was not conducted well. The reason I'm leaving a note is that some users are using your comments from this poll to support their position, most notably your usage of a google test. We are shying away from using a standard google test here because, since the dispute is so well advertised, it is not quite appropriate (national news on both sides are gaming for search results, personal blogs of people from the respective countries distort it, etc.) There is even an article from the Korean times talking about the cyberspace naming campaign here that talks about it.
Anyway, I'm not trying to convince you of my side (the comments above are a subset of the ones I have left). Others have responded with their own ideas. I would appreciate it if you could take a look over what has been said and leave your thoughts on the matter. It's frustrating to have people say, "Well, Nihonjoe feels this way," when I really don't know if you do or not since you simply had a short sentence on it a year ago.
