Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{ unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{ unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Cabayi ( talk) 18:59, 28 October 2020 (UTC) reply

Reason: The purpose of the newly created page was not for advertising. We want to create an additional page for Hazelle Rollins, who owned the world's largest marionette factory in Kansas City. Since our organization houses a museum of her puppets, and an archive of her papers, we wanted to create the page about us so researchers will know what kind of an organization we are. It's purely for informational purposes, and I tried to make the description as brief as possible. The page for Hazelle Rollins (not yet created) will contain historical information about her life and work, and would only briefly mention that further information about her can be found at our organization. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I will be glad to change the wording on the newly created page "Puppetry Arts Institute" so it won't appear as advertising. Perhaps you can help us in knowing how to do that. If approved, I will then create a page for Hazelle Rollins, and hopefully after that it will not seem like advertising. We appreciate you letting us know what guidelines we need to follow. Thank you.

Decline reason:

When you say you are here for "informational purposes" and "we wanted to create the page about us so researchers will know what kind of an organization we are", those are the definition of promotion on Wikipedia. You do not have to be selling something or soliciting customers. Wikipedia is not for merely providing information. Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about(in this case) a person, showing how they meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable person(possibly a a notable creative professional). Please review conflict of interest and paid editing. You won't be unblocked to make further edits related to your conflict of interest(at least in the short term); if that is your only goal here, this is the end of the road for your Wikipedia career. If you are interested in being a general, individual contributor and editing about topics completely unrelated to your conflict of interest, please tell what those topics might be. If I create a biographical page for Hazelle Rollins, and don't mention or have a page for Puppetry Arts (which is considered advertising and promoting) is it still a conflict of interest? With my new username no one would know of a connection and I wouldn't be promoting our organization. What needs to be done so that a page for Hazelle Rollins can be created? Could someone else (outside of our organization) create it, without mentioning us? Thank you. Why is this page /info/en/?search=Center_for_Puppetry_Arts "Center for Puppetry Arts" in Atlanta, Georgia, not considered advertising, and allowed to remain on Wikipedia, but the page I created "Puppetry Arts Institute" isn't. Their page is similar to Puppetry Arts, with far more wording, and their page describes their business and services. How do we not know their organization set their page up? After looking at their page, and the page of many businesses and retailers on Wikipedia, which detail their business practices, I would now like to appeal to have the page "Puppetry Arts Institute" considered for publication on Wikipedia.

I respect your right to maintain and uphold your rules and guidelines, but my initial intent was not for profit, promotion or advertising. I understand the actions here are a result of your interpretation of my intent, as a possible conflict of interest. In following the established guidelines, I want to state for the record that I don't agree that "promotion and self gain" is my intent in providing information, and that as an unpaid volunteer for a non-profit organization, there would be no promoting of the business for my personal gain. My other question has not been answered yet. Can someone else create pages on wikipedia for Hazelle Rollins or about our organization if they have no affiliation with us and are not paid by us to do so? If that's the case, I argue that no matter who writes a page, it can promote or advertise a business, even without the business's knowledge. Thank you.

Decline reason:

Please read through our conflict of interest guideline before making further requests. Our definition of conflict of interest is broad, and includes any and all relationships that you may have with a subject, including work as an unpaid volunteer. signed, Rosguill talk 18:53, 29 October 2020 (UTC) reply

Thank you, I've read the guidelines and links you've suggested. I'm surprised you said I haven't met you half-way. I think I've been patient and respectful and am trying to understand and just asking for your help in figuring things out. In my appeal to be unblocked, I'm assuring you at this time that: I've disclosed that I'm not receiving any compensation for my contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia: Paid-contribution disclosure requirement. I have tried to convince you that I understand the reason for the block and that I want to adhere to your guidelines and follow them. If unblocked, I would like to edit and correct factual errors and provide documentation on various Wikipedia pages related to history, the performing arts, movies and tv, classic literature, and religion. I would like to edit pages now and show you that I can do that, but how can I when you have me blocked? You still have not answered my question as to whether pages for Puppetry Arts Institute or Hazelle Rollins can ever be submitted. If not by myself, can another person create them? 0r are you blocking those page topics making it impossible for anyone to do that? I think Hazelle deserves a presence on Wikipedia. What has to be done in order for those pages to be submitted by someone else? Thank you.

Accept reason:

Your name has been changed, and you appear to understand that you cannot create or edit articles related to Puppetry Arts Institute or Hazelle Rollins, or any other topic in which you may have an actual or perceived conflict of interest, which would include those articles in the category Category:Puppetry. If you do create or edit in the Puppetry category you are liable to be blocked indefinitely. After six months of productive editing in other areas you may appeal the restriction on editing in the category Category:Puppetry. This has been noted on the block log. SilkTork ( talk) 12:41, 19 November 2020 (UTC) reply

Someone will review your request. No one is blocking anyone from writing about those topics. Anyone without a conflict of interest is completely free to write about any subject they take note of in independent reliable sources, including Rollins and your organization. While you won't be unblocked to edit about those topics in the short term, if you spend time developing a good edit history demonstrating that you understand Wikipedia guidelines(six months to a year minimum), you might later be permitted to submit drafts in areas where you have a conflict of interest. But you won't be unblocked to make COI related edits now.
I will add that Wikipedia is not concerned with whether any topic "deserves a presence" here(there are some subjects where it is possible to take the opposite view, that a topic does not deserve it, but we cover them too); it's solely up to the coverage in independent reliable sources. Wikipedia is not concerned with telling the world about people, or recognizing their careers in some way- just summarizing the sources. 331dot ( talk) 07:25, 30 October 2020 (UTC) reply
Thank you,331dot. I understand wikipedia's purpose is not to promote any person or idea. In saying Hazelle Rollins deserves a page, I meant that there is no information about her on wikipedia for researchers, puppeteers and collectors, so the information should be available.

I am still appealing at this time to be unblocked so I can do editing and provide reliable sources for data on various pages of Wikipedia, not related to my conflict of interest topics/intended pages. I also understand someone else other than myself (and outside of my organization) would have to create pages for which there is a perceived conflict of interest.
