While the words of the bible are in your heart and soul (which is definitely a good thing), many people who consult Wikipedia are not so blessed, and may not be of the Christian faith, so I think it's important for the encyclopedia article to discuss the broad distribution of the Bible. The article could use some citations though; likewise with the other religious texts mentioned, although as they note, precise figures are unobtainable.
