Hello Kylie,
Actually, in fact, I am a chemist who happens to know that the true name is indeed, propanoic acid. Propionic acid is a misleading name for an otherwise simple compound that has confused many students in the past, and will continue to confuse them in the future. Something MUST be done about this falsity. It is a shame that the author who submitted this has mistakenly taken to use the "nickname" of this compound. It is comparable to saying that "Teflon" is the actual chemical name for polytetrafluoroethylene.
