Just read through your replies on my talk page, nice and entertaining.
If I'm being honest, you can tell how bad kept the economic articles are by the fact that I am allowed free reign to edit them as I please, with absolutely no formal economics qualification (yet). So if you see something wrong, for god's sake just change it - I'm constantly in fear of a band of economics PhDs turning up and tearing my work to shreds :).
Png actually calls it "demand" not "quantity demanded", incidentally, there is meaning in my madness! - Jarry1250 Humorous? Discuss. 19:44, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Apologies for the somewhat lateish response, I've been a little under the weather; haven't quite felt up to tackling the wall of text on my talk page! (I'm sure it only seems that way on this netbook with its narrow screen...) I'm sure I will have missed some bits from my response.
Yes, the synthesis guidelines are strict (it's a baby out with the bathwater moment), but honestly, the number of economics papers and books that have been written, the stuff ought to be somewhere. Or maybe that's just me being naive.
Re. the PPF article, no, I didn't write it but I did edit it a lot, and I made (nearly?) all the images. I was rather hoping to get it passed as a good article by the end of the month, and the reviewer would like citations for the section I referenced. Of course, I wouldn't want it passed if it knowingly didn't touch on all the major points, so anything you can do to help, well, just do it.
Re. elasticity. Quite. Such is the nature of a document coauthored by potentially hundreds of people. And yes, you can copy within Wikipedia, you just need to attribute any authors. WP:CWW gives the full list.
Re. Images. I use Inkscape to make the vector images. It can be hard to work with at times, but it does have the crucial advantage that you can download someone else's SVG, and move things about, change a label or two, all in matter of seconds. Which means from one economics diagram, many more can easily be derived. (Equally, it would be nice to have some consistency across articles since it is so easy to achieve.)
Re. PPF (2). I do get to see your edits, y'know! I'll query you on anything I disagree with, nothing so far :) . But thanks for the economics lesson, my course has covered basic PPFs but never Edgeworth boxes. So some pretty cool stuff there (let's not go too far...)

Hello there. Sorry to bother you, but you are (titularly at least) a member of WP:WikiProject Economics, as defined by this category. If you don't know me, I'm a Wikipedia administrator, but an unqualified economist. I enjoy writing about economics, but I'm not very good at it, which is why I would like to support in any way I can the strong body of economists here on Wikipedia. I'm only bothering you because you are probably one of them. Together, I'd like us to establish the future direction of WikiProject Economics, but first, we need to know who we've got to help.
Whatever your area of expertise or level of qualification, if you're interested in helping with the WikiProject (even if only as part of a larger commitment to this wonderful online encyclopedia of ours), would you mind adding your signature to this page? It only takes a second. Thank you.

Ahem, I have a long and distinguished writing history on Wikipedia: two articles does not constitute a roll! I must say I did laugh though when the reviewer (in their closing comments) point me to PED for inspiration.
Add away. I'm naturally not going to like your invasion of my perfectly good article (!) but there's very little I can do to stop you (well, without resorting to my extra buttons).
My own thoughts on what depth is needed in articles (not just economics ones, but everything that takes my fancy; oh, and yes, I know this is kind of what you said): include basic information that the general reader who? will want to know in a way they can understand, and then embellish that with a sentence or two introducing a more advanced niche, and then linking to that (however weak or non-existent at this time that article may be). The beauty of this being, that the "general reader" for article 1 is not that same as article 2. To take an example from mathematics, the article on addition has a different readership to that for Cauchy's integral theorem; for each one, you can provide what the reader wants to know, then link them to the more advanced topic which they can then read about if they want, or leave in blissful ignorance.
I was; it was all under control though. As I always say, people disagree with me, we have a chat, they realise I'm right and we both go away happy (and very rarely enemies).
That is odd. Ciao, - Jarry1250 Humorous? Discuss. 10:30, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi,J. Elsewhere wasn't the place to digress, tempting though that might have been. On the question you raised (possibly rhetorical), I was merely referring to your mentor's place in the pantheon of ecological economics. If you're not quite familiar w it, you'll see that that subject is well categorized as heterodox in the JEL classification codes in for example this article. Beyond that, from my very limited WP perch, following up Google scholar cites on his entropy classics, there is some stuff by Herman Daly but also many lesser scholars or less scholarly works that take him as their fixed star wout necessarily having read his work (unkind insinuation there). Take care. P.S. That wonderful quotation belongs in your mentor's WP article. The measure of the man in this case is the measure of his peer. I liked your reference to his interests in development economics. Google scholar or Google may have at least the first page of some of his classic papers. Those are always fun to include in a citation link as well. -- Thomasmeeks ( talk) 20:08, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
Greetings from the
Guild of Copy Editors
July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including
Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

The Guild of Copy-Editors – September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invite you to participate in the September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 September at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 September at 23:59 (UTC). The goals for this drive are to eliminate 2008 from the queue and to reduce the backlog to fewer than 5,000 articles. Sign-up has already begun at the September drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page. Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style. Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors
Backlog Elimination Drive!
Participation report — We have 71 participants in the September drive. 95 people signed up for the July drive, and in May we had 36. Progress report — We have been making solid progress in eliminating the 2008 articles from the backlog so far. If we continue to focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Overall volumes are lower than expected though, with nearly a thousand articles yet to be done if we are to meet our overall target. If you have not yet participated in the drive, we recommend you do so. If each person who signed up edits one article per day from now till the end of the month we can eliminate another 1,065 articles from the backlog. All contributions are appreciated. Announcement: credit for 10k+ articles — Participants editing a 10k word article may claim credit for two 5k+ articles on the leaderboard. Those that edit a 15k word article may claim credit for three. Regardless, the article is still counted as a single article in the tallies. Reminder — Articles from the Requests page can be included in your tally, even if they do not have a copy edit tag. This is a great place to go if you are interested in finding a higher quality article to work on. Backlog Elimination Drive!
We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update. Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join! Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive. Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{ cleanup}}, {{ wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

Greetings GOCE Backlog elimination drive participant, We are now coming up to the last few days of the drive, the last for 2010. Currently, it looks like we will achieve our target for reducing the backlog by 10%, however, we still have huge numbers for 2009. We have 55 participants in this drive. If everyone just clears 2 articles each, we will reduce the backlog by a further 110 articles. If everyone can just do 3 articles, we will hit 165. If you have yet to work on any articles and have rollover words, remember that you do need to copyedit at least a couple of articles in this drive for your previous rollover to be valid for the next drive. There are many very small articles that will take less than 5-10 minutes to copyedit. Use CatScan to find them. Let's all concentrate our firepower on the first three months of 2009 as we approach the end of this final drive for the year. Thank you once again for participating, and see you at the finish line! – SMasters ( talk) 04:07, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the
Guild of Copy Editors
January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.
So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can
sign up now.
We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal. Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success! Your drive coordinators – S Masters ( talk), Diannaa ( Talk), The Utahraptor Talk to me, and Tea with toast ( Talk) |

Guild of Copy Editors
The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting. This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated. We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". |

Please read my comments on the article on elasticity in response to your claim that the logarithm function is just a convenient coincidence. While I agree not everyone (or even most people) needs to "understand" the intuitive motivation for the appearance of the logarithm, I hope I've shown that the logarithmic definition is completely natural and intuitive concept to consider. 198.189.14.2 ( talk) 20:25, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi Jackftwist. I saw you deleted your comment on the "two spaces between sentences" section on the manual of style talk page. No problem at all, GI. I agree: We both had the same thoughts, or close to it, and it seemed clear to me that your post was in that spirit. I definitely need to control my obsession to comment on so many posts on that page, but some of the more ... uh .... "ill-advised" (to put it in terms consistent with WP guidelines) trigger a compulsion to shout "B.S."! (I seem to have replaced my previously mentioned grammar pedantry with still another form of pedantry. I'm beginning to lose track of which comments I've made where.)

Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 backlog elimination drive report
Greetings from the
Guild of Copy Editors
July 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating! Here is your end-of-drive report.
50 people signed up for the drive, of which 39 participated. Thanks to all who copy edited articles and helped us reduce the backlogs in both the total articles and requests. We offered a bonus for copy edits from the Requests page, and have been somewhat successful in reducing that backlog, as a record 89 new requests were received in the month of July.
During the month of July we reduced the backlog by 338 articles, or by about 8.5%. We did not reach our goal of a 10% reduction, but we came close, and did very well considering the small size of the group participating. Since our Backlog elimination drives began in May 2010, we have reduced the backlog by 4,708 articles. End-of-drive results can be found here. We will be handing out barnstars within the next week or two.
Please remember that the GOCE Requests page is receiving a high number of requests, with the number of August requests already above three per day. Any assistance to help keep the backlog down would be greatly appreciated. Our next drive will be in September. We hope to see you there! Shouldn't we put Mathematician and Statistician before Economist, as we was primarily a mathematician and only after became an Economist (though his work with Schumpeter). It may not be so much important... Your help is appreciated and it's what NGR really deserves: more recognition. The only problem is that he was far ahead on his time... but things are (slowly) changing. BTW, I am currently working with Kozo Mayumi, one of his proteges of the time. Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive update
Greetings from the
Guild of Copy Editors
March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter. Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us! Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far. Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers. Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the
Guild of Copy Editors
March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter. Participation Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months. Progress report During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here. When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The {{ GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators. Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May. May 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter
Participation: Out of 49 people signed up for this drive so far, 26 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us! Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive, largely due to the efforts of Lfstevens and the others on the leaderboard. Thanks to all. We have reduced our target group of articles—January, February, and March 2011—by over half, and it looks like we will achieve that goal. Good progress is being made on the overall backlog as well, with over 500 articles copy-edited during the drive so far. The total backlog currently sits at around 3200 articles. Hall of Fame: GOCE coordinator Diannaa was awarded a spot in the GOCE Hall of Fame this month! She has copy-edited over 1567 articles during these drives, and surpassed the 1,000,000-word mark on May 5. On to the second million! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa and Stfg

Greetings from the
Guild of Copy Editors

Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 backlog elimination drive update
Greetings from the
Guild of Copy Editors
July 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.
So far, 45 people have signed up for the drive, of which 30 are actively participating, a very high participation rate. If you have not signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. If you have questions about getting started, feel free to talk to us.
Progress has been less than that needed to meet our target for the drive (which would reduce the backlog by about 400 articles). Remember though, if everyone copy edits one or two articles every day, we will easily meet our goal. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. Reducing the number of articles on this list has been a major success of this drive. Thanks for participating! Your drive coordinators – Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02 and SMasters |

Your drive coordinators – Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02 and SMasters |

Dear Jackftwist, Thanks a lot for your contribs on NGR's page. I made the recent changes (included creating the box) and I am OK with yours. One comment though. I look forward reading your suggested changes on Samuelson's support to NGR. Regards. -- Ledjazz ( talk) 10:26, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
