Hi Hydro, sorry for taking so long to get back to you on this. I've just run the bot through the autopatrolled candidates for approval pages (I went through pages 9 to 36). You can see the archival edits
here,
here and
here. You can see the bot's report
here (the report is probably the only readable thing here ;D).
As you can see at the report, there were a few errors (kinda unavoidable when running though 776 requests
). The most "serious" errors were the bot skipped two pages due to undated requests at
Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled candidates 23 and
Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled candidates 24 (the reason the bot has linked to
Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled for all the errors is because I had to "fake" the article titles to get it to link to there on the archive pages). This is fairly simple to fix though: It is simply a matter of dating those requests and getting the bot to run through those two pages again (alternatively I can make the bot not look for dates, since it's not actually using them anyway). Less serious, but more difficult to fix are the requests marked as
Not done but where the user has the permission. I'm not sure if you actually want these archived anyway, since it's not really relevant for what you're doing (you won't be looking at users who have the permission anyway, so it won't matter when filtering out candidates if they have been denied previously). Please let me know if everything else looks okay or not asap, as I am holding off on the normal archiving for awhile to make it easier to undo the bot's edits if there is a problem. Cheers, -

I've recently been doing some thinking (and a great deal of consultation with Philippe and James at the WMF's community department) on how to keep new users around and participating, particularly in light of Sue's March update. One of the things we'd like to test is whether the reception they get when they make their first article is key. In a lot of cases, people don't stay around; their article is deleted and that's that. By the time any contact is made, in other words, it's often too late.
What we're thinking of doing is running a project to gather data on if this occurs, how often it occurs, and so on, and in the mean time try to save as many pages (and new contributors) as possible. Basically, involved users would go through the deletion logs and through Special:NewPages looking for new articles which are at risk of being deleted, but could have something made of them - in other words, non-notable pages that are potentially notable, or spammy pages that could be rewritten in more neutral language. This would be entirely based on the judgment of the user reviewing pages - no finnicky CSD standards. These pages would be incubated instead of deleted, and the creator contacted and shepherded through how to turn the article into something useful. If they respond and it goes well, we have a decent article and maybe a new long-term editor. If they don't respond, the draft can be deleted after a certain period of time.
I know this isn't necessarily your standard fare, but with your new pages and autopatrolled work I thought it might be up your alley. If you're interested, read Wikipedia:Wiki Guides/New pages, sign up and get involved; questions can be dropped on the talkpage or directed at me. Thanks, Ironholds ( talk) 21:09, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Great to hear from you! I've been doing fine. Since last talking to you, I've started a new job... I've been really busy with that. Just for the record, I wasn't intending to beat you with regard to the "Star Gazers" article; but, I am glad that you were pleased with what I added. I didn't see your message until after I had added the new October episodes to the list early this morning. I'm not sure what the show is planning to do with the new website; but so far, they haven't added any real information to it yet. They do have a You Tube Channel; and, that is where I obtained the new episode titles. SDPB was suppose to have aired one of the new episodes tonight; but, it was pre-empted by Ken Burns' "Prohibition" (so, it will probably air late Saturday night and early Sunday morning here). I really like the old "Star Gazer" website (with all of the scripts and downloadable episodes, etc.). I am really hoping that they keep all of that with the new website (but, there are probably no guarantees). I don't know whether or not you have seen any of the new episodes yet; but, there have been some format changes. I'm definitely going to miss the old theme music, which is now gone. On the other hand, Jack Horkheimer had been gone for more than a year; and, the show was overdue for some sort of changes (especially removing Jack Horkheimer's face and name from the opening sequence). Anyway, it was great hearing from you again. Brianhass ( talk) 06:55, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I'm going to take you up on your offer and ask for your assistance. I'm having a tough time dealing with User:Jayjg here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Cincinatis#Jewish
He has vowed to prevent me from engaging in anti-semitism:
Which is not what I am doing. He refers to inserting the fact that an individual is Jewish in their Wikipedia biography as anti-semitism.
I have tried to explain my position, but he constantly ignores me, repeats false allegations, and is generally uncooperative and bellicose.
He has stated that according to WP:BLP:
But the only thing the actual text in the WP:BLPCAT states is that:
By this criteria, their religious affiliation can be mentioned if I can show with reliable sources it is "relevant to their public life or notability" (not "career or notability"), and "the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief", and their ethnicity can be mentioned without any requirement of showing its relevance to their public life or notability.
In his further response, he did not address this point, and basically just repeated what he had written earlier. I think I am at an impasse as I want to include mention of an individual's Jewish ethnicity in their biography, and believe that User:Jayjg will reject any attempt to do so (I believe he will do this because he's given changing reasons for why the content I've inserted is unacceptable and has accused me of anti-semitism), and I can't engage in a constructive discussion with him to identify and address his concerns with the content. -- Cincinatis ( talk) 02:03, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

Should your hope of more people getting involved not come through, are you interested in helping out with some more experiments? The more eyes (and brains, I suppose), the easier it is to reach even more new users.
Best wishes// Hannibal ( talk) 22:10, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
That was a wonderful speech you made[ http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk:Article_creation_workflow here], Hydrox, and I mean that sincerely without ant sarcasm. However, I'm very concerned, perhaps more concerned, about retaining the good editors we have who might have been keen to work on developing solutions. Let me know if you have any thoughts on how the NPP system can be improved. Cheers, -- Kudpung กุดผึ้ง ( talk) 00:57, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
Hydroxium:

Hi, Hydroxonium, how do you do? I am going to take a wikibreak and I am not sure yet when I will be back (but I WILL be back eventually). I am going to check my talkpage though and respond to messages left there. It's just that I will not take part in greater editing activites. By the way, I posted a question at WP:HD#Moving an archived discussion from VPR to VPRPP that has not received a reply yet. If you have any feelings about this just let me know. Best. Hey, Hydroxonium! First, thanks for the confident support in my RfA! But also, guess what I brought back, just for you? Swarm X Heh, seriously, though, you were like the third person to mention that they liked my old sig better. I get the hint. :P Regards, Swarm X 02:29, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Hey. I've updated my rangecontribs tool to allow you to go further into the past. If you have a minute, would you mind being my guinea pig and seeing if it works? — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 02:33, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Hello Hydroxonium, since you are highly active on the account creation interface, I have enabled accountcreator on your account. This will enable you to ignore the normal limit on daily account creations and other checks. Please take note of the following points:

FYI. I have added your welcome to a flock I have collected (and use) at User:Buster7/Welcomes. I see that you are active at welcoming new editors and support your endeavors. Your example makes me want to return to welcoming. Are you free-lancing? I ask because that is the method I prefer. While I supported the WP:WikiGuides project, I found all the record keeping and reporting tedious. I know they were necessary for result tracking and WP Foundation use, but it caused me to lose interest. How do you choose your newbies? From the recent changes page? Lets chat. TRA! Hi Hydroxonium,
Thanks for signing up for the Feedback Dashboard response team! I wanted to let you know that the tool just got an important update (see here for details). I also wanted to invite you to the IRC office hours session that Steven and I are going to hold this Sunday, December 4. Hope you can make it and share your experience/questions with us! Thanks again, Maryana (WMF) ( talk) 23:52, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for your comment and support at my recent successful RFA. Being now the new fellow in the fraternity of administrators, I will do my best to live up to the confidence shown in me by others, will move slowly and carefully when using the mop, will seek input from others before any action of which I might be unsure, and will try not to break anything beyond repair. Was interested in your helpful comments re Fair Use images on User:CAWylie's talk page. You know, I celebrate 10 years on Wiki this month, but deliberately steer clear of the images minefield. Still puzzles me how we use an album cover image from Amazon whose website clearly states people may not "download......any portion of it, except with express written consent of Amazon" but the licensing makes no mention of consent. Is there a blanket permission letter/communication somewhere? Moriori ( talk) 03:10, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Hello again, Hydrox! Would you please go here and review my last article, at least remove the tag there? It's been around for most of the week and no looky-loos. Thanks! — WylieCoyote ( talk) 02:25, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

I suppose one way to find situations would be via the recent changes. And if one of us finds something, we leave a "crumb of bread" in the edit summary since we watchlist each other. I'll give it a whirl and see what comes up. TRA! Buster Seven Talk 05:07, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Hope you don't mind but I was roaming around your backyard and noticed the Hydrox/Dashboard page in the garage. Where can I get one of those? It looks like just the thing Ive been looking for to clean-up my backyard. Do the sell them at Harrods? TRA! Buster Seven Talk 19:08, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
My apologies. Somehow I missed your {{ inuse}} tag entirely. Feel free to override my edits if need be. NW ( Talk) 01:11, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
I once knew an editor that said he was limited in how he expressed himself. But it seemed to me that every time I read anything he wrote it always was just the right thing, said just the right way, at just the right moment. Well said at ARC. Im sure after the firestorm is over and the embers die down, there will be the beginning of a re-newed Civility conversation. Make sure you take a seat at the table. TRA!
