This is a great page here which gives credit to many of the branches of Choy Li Fut - a style of martial arts. The only reason why anyone would want to change the name of this page is for political reasons. Lets keep politics and passions out of this wiki page and concentrate on the content. I believe that the page should be left as Cai Li Fo. I will add both Mandarin and Cantonese to the top description. Okay, let me explain the linguistic problems. First Chinese as a spoken language is tonal not phonetic like most western languages such as our English. There are basically 4 tones in Mandarin, 7 in Cantonese. The system of writing Chinese words into English is called Pinyin. For example "choy" can be written as "Choi" or "Tsoi", etc. That is because it is difficult to write tones and refined sounds into letters. To try and standardize the English writing of Chinese words and to take into consideration pronunciation, pinyin standards such as Gwoyeu Romatzyh of 1928, Latinxua Sin Wenz of 1931,Wade-Giles (1859; modified 1892), zhuyin, etc.. were created over history to address these problems. Each of them had differing standards. The official 2009 national standarized pinyin of China is called Hanyu Pinyin. There are 107+ known spoken dialects in China. In Cantonese alone, you have dialects such as Toi-san, Sam-yup, Sei-yup, Gok-gong, Hakka, etc.. Each will pronounce "Choy Li Fut" slightly different, thus the transliteration to English, depending on what pinyin you used, and when it was used, will create differences in the English spelling. An example would be the word "Chi". If you use the Chinese Postal Romanization, you can write it as Chi, ch'i, and hsi (pinyin ji, qi, and xi) are represented as either tsi, tsi, and si or ki, ki, and hi depending on historic pronunciation, etc. The official Chinese Hanyu Pinyin of 2009 romanized spelling of Chi is Qi, whether you like it or not, whether you are from the South or North. So arguing whether Choy Li Fut should be written as Choi Lei Fut or Tsoi Lee Fot, is ridiculous and wasting time. If you wish to conform to the most popular Southern Cantonese standard for the name, the "Choy Li Fut" would be the one. Another problem. To make Choy Li Fut a widely known martial arts in China, and to standardize it's name. You have to use Mandarin. To unify the country as a whole and remove the dialect issues. The government of China made Mandarin the official language of China. Since Hong Kong is now part of China again, Mandarin is now the official language in Hong Kong even though people still speak their dialects. Even with written and spoken Mandarin, Taiwan uses the older written language while mainland China uses a simplified version. Most people born and educated before WWII in China and Japan can read the old style of writing as well as the newer simplified form. To deal with this issue, I will mention both names at the top of the article. To deal with transliterations of the romanized spellings, when a wiki user types in any transliteration of Choy li Fut, Cai Li Fo, Choi Lei Fut, whatever, the wiki has been set up to auto-magically send them to this page. The bot is causing problems with all the transliterations of Choy Li Fut. All the various Pinyin spellings should point to Cai Li Fo as the official name and page. Hi, it's me again. I noticed that when the filename of the to-add image contains a plus-sign ( + ) in it, it turns into a page on the target space (see this diff for example). I suspect it's related to escaping to do (%2B vs. + in a url). -- Krinkle ( talk) 13:03, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
Hello, first of all, thanks for the great Images for bio tool. It's really powerful, but i ran into an unpleasant bug (or is it a feature ?
) When i come back to the page with the images to be added, the same pictures, that have already been treated, keep reappearing, like the list of pictures that have been declared "done or useless" was not saved/overriden somehow at each run of your script (I guess there must be a script on the backend that detects the potential articles and pictures and feeds the list on the front end through which we manually add images to articles).
In the beginning, it's not that much of a nuisance : it's a matter of clicking on a couple of images that are already done, to reach the point where new images and articles are suggested. But after a few days or weeks of use, I'm now at a point where i'd have to waste ½ an hour each time to get rid of the old stuff that is suggested again. It's unfortunately not very productive...
I already used and quit using your tool for that very reason almost one year ago (iirc).
I hope you will be able to find a fix or a workaround to this behaviour. Maybe the problem is on my side, but I truly don't see how I could fix it. If you need any help with beta-testing or the like, feel free to ask me, it will be my pleasure.

I see it is currently undergoing a trial. Cool, although one thing I would note is that it seems to add the same message even after repeated vandalism. For example, here, the user got two warnings for the same article in two minutes, then five minutes later AVBOT gave it a warning for the same article. Normally the warning from AVBOT would be a level 3 or even level 4 warning, but instead it gave a level 1 warning. Yet another example can be seen at User talk:76.226.200.119. There, the user vandalized the same article twice within a minute, but only received the same, level 1 warning. Again, not a huge deal, but definitely something to think about. ~ Amory ( u • t • c) 21:42, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
About an hour ago I added pics of tattooed genitals to the Genital tattooing article but AVBOT reverted my edit and identified it as vandalism. The AVBOT message encourages users to revert the edit if it's wrong. I did that. Is there anything else I should do? GlooscapSinclair ( talk) 00:52, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi emijrp, yes, images without captions are a problem for screen reader users, because they show an image with no accompanying description. The way that images are shown on Wikipedia is a problem for screen reader users, but that's another story entirely, and requires developer intervention to fix. But captions are very helpful for people like me, so we can have an idea what an image represents. A WikiProject to fix captionless images with links (since those without links are designed not to be read by screen readers) would be a good idea, but I'm not sure how many there are, since captions are useful for sighted people as well. BTW if you have bot coding skills and are keen on content you might want to think about using it to generate content. But the articles would have to be sourced and contain some useful starter info. I did actually propose a GEOBOT back in 2007 to auto generate every village in the geonames databased onto wikipedia. It received a lot of criticism and in the end the bot operator gave up, if it was successful we'd have over 5 million wikipedia articles by now. Lo que nos gustaría es encontrar alguna página o algo que nos diga el número de ediciones que se llevan realizadas a lo largo del día, para darle un poco de emoción al asunto. El problema es que lo único que he encontrado es ésta página que sólo indica el número de ediciones diarias del día anterior. ¿No conocerás algún servicio o página donde podamos consultar esta información?. Output variable: image in SVG format (because it supports hyperlinks). I know, that I can to generate this image with interwiki.py+interwiki_graph.py, but many people don't uses pywikipedia bots and ever don't know what is it the "bot". No matter which language I pick, when I click the "Add"-button, as of today, it's stuck at the redirection-file ("ilu.php").
It should complete markupless page with a raw message like the following:

Please fix it soon ! It seems the entire tool has become unusable because of it. --Thanks in advance, Krinkle ( talk) 23:32, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

What I put was true he is a recurring character on the show who constantly says what I put and he dies in nearly every appearance, his entry in the show's wiki gives him that name since he has no given name in the show, it is not vandalism. ( 173.18.28.177 ( talk) 05:28, 5 April 2010 (UTC))

Hi. I'm not much of a stub creator anymore, not enmasse anyway. I'm not sure there is enough info on some of those cities to make it worth starting. If I were you I'd ask help at the WikiProject Cities/Geography or ask one of the geostubbers like User:Starzynka or somebody to help you. Dr. Blofeld 13:07, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Can you recat your Andalusia reservoirs as Category:Reservoirs in Andalusia seems as there are many by region? BTW if you have bot coding skills and are keen on content you might want to think about using it to generate content. But the articles would have to be sourced and contain some useful starter info. I did actually propose a GEOBOT back in 2007 to auto generate every village in the geonames databased onto wikipedia. It received a lot of criticism and in the end the bot operator gave up, if it was successful we'd have over 5 million wikipedia articles by now. There is an Indian wikipedian named Ganeskhk who I think has/is planning on adding Indian villages. You should definately address something to him. Dr. Blofeld 14:02, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi there, if you wish to operate a bot, Wikipedia:Bot policy requires that you get it approved first. Therefore I'm here to ask you to please turn off User:AVBOT for the time being until you get approval for it. To get it approved, please re-open Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/AVBOT or start a new BRFA. Unfortunately, I have to block the bot if it continues editing. This could jeopardise the BRFA, so please have it stop as soon as possible. Thanks, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:00, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Please be careful about using the Geonames database. It is chock full of errors and typos. It really isn't a reliable primary source, IMO, but can be used to corroborate information elsewhere. Using it as a starting point for manually gathering information is great, just don't trust it as a sole source of info. Kaldari ( talk) 18:39, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

I have removed the images added to the german articles de:Anastasius II. and de:Anastasius IV. as these are purely fantasy images, which are not wanted for historic articles in germany. Please stop adding to articles, where you are not knowing, what you are doing. If you are adding images like abot, you are causing more harm than benefit. I have stopped, but I have a question. Is it Wikipedia in German language or Wikipedia of Germany? I don't understand why Wikipedia must be complaint with the German license laws for images. emijrp ( talk) 10:57, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, but if you know nothing about copyright law, then don't create such a tool. For the German WP, please have your tool not suggest all images that are licensed commons:Template:PD-US-no notice, commons:Template:PD-US, Template:PD-1923, Template:PD-US-1978-89, Template:PD-US-not renewed. See the template description: This image might not be in the public domain outside of the United States; this especially applies in the countries and areas that do not apply the rule of the shorter term for US works, such as Canada, Mainland China (not Hong Kong or Macao), Germany, Mexico, and Switzerland. At the German WP, we can't use most of these images, but if your tool keeps suggesting them people keep adding them if they know nothing about copyright. -- 91.64.225.66 ( talk) 15:26, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Good day, Emilio. I think it will be usefull web-based tool, that creates the interwiki-graps for some article. For example, we have an interwiki conflict with article en:Australopithecine and appropriate image for this interwiki conflict. I think that tool it's just a page, that sends some request to the server and gets from server side the result. So, input variables: wikipedia language (en), article name (Australopithecine). Output variable: image in SVG format (because it supports hyperlinks). I know, that I can to generate this image with interwiki.py+interwiki_graph.py, but many people don't uses pywikipedia bots and ever don't know what is it the "bot". But I think that this people can resolve the interwiki conflicts without bots but with this hypotetically tool. -- Movses ( talk) 21:15, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
