Reference errors on 1 February

Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows:

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, ReferenceBot ( talk) 00:20, 2 February 2017 (UTC) reply

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on BR(W) bench requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Railway benches

Hello. Would you mind if I move your article BR(W) bench to Draft:BR(W) bench? This would reduce the risk of it being deleted. Roberttherambler ( talk) 18:40, 7 February 2017 (UTC) reply

Yes please.

Thank you. I think it would be a good idea to merge Draft:BR(W) bench with Draft:British railway benches. Is this OK with you, or is there a particular reason why you want to keep them separate? Roberttherambler ( talk) 22:16, 7 February 2017 (UTC) reply

I never thought of putting them together, its a great idea.

Thank you. I've merged them to Draft:British railway benches. I think the article is coming along really well. Roberttherambler ( talk) 23:29, 7 February 2017 (UTC) reply

Copying

Thank you for starting the article at Praze Railway Station, but there are a few problems.

It looks as if you copied a paragraph from Helston Railway, complete with a reference which didn't work as it was a reference defined elsewhere, when you started the article Praze Railway Station. Don't do that: some other editor wrote that paragraph, and you have stolen their text without attribution. See Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia for more information. If you have not read the relevant page of Oakley's book, you should not be adding it as a reference: the references are supposed to show where you have found the information you are adding. I've removed the copied text, and the reference which didn't go anywhere.

In fact the article should have been created at Praze railway station (lower case "r" and "s"), which is the established style for UK railway stations. You could have over-written the existing "redirect" which currently points to the Helston Railway.

Please take a little more care over spelling - "Discription" etc don't look good in an international encyclopedia. Thanks. Pam D 18:09, 22 February 2017 (UTC) reply

Control copyright icon Hello BritainsRailway, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Helston Railway have been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 ( talk) 19:37, 30 May 2017 (UTC) reply

Class 14s

Hi, do you have any sourcing for the Class 14s being regarded as Type 1s? Because they were built so much later than most of the other classes being introduced, I've found it hard to source this. Most of the useful sources pre-date the 14. It's "obvious" that they were (from how they were used) although their power is still in the "shunter" region, rather than the Type 1 definition. But all of that is close to WP:OR and really we need sourcing. Thanks Andy Dingley ( talk) 15:01, 2 September 2019 (UTC) reply

Yes, Hembry, P.J. (1982). Class 14, The Cinderellas of the Diesel-hydraulic Era. Sutton Coalfield: Diesel & Electric Group. ISBN 0-906375-09-6. This book refers to the Class 14s as Type 1 Locomotives.

Information icon Hello, I'm SovalValtos. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Alford, Lincolnshire, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited William Horwood (police commissioner), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page North Eastern Railway. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
