This talk page is for discussing AnomieBOT's TFDTemplateSubster task and reporting problems with its usage. If reporting a problem with the substitution of a particular template, you should check the history of User:AnomieBOT/TFDTemplateSubster and ping the editor responsible for listing it.

This talk page is not for re-discussing whether a template should be orphaned/substituted/deleted. If you have complaints along those lines, Wikipedia:Deletion review is probably where you want to be.

User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/TFDTemplateSubster‎ may be used if a run in progress needs to be immediately stopped.

Full protection?

Shouldn't this page be Template protected like User:AnomieBOT/TemplateSubster force, not fully protected? ‑‑ Trialpears ( talk) 16:15, 2 February 2020 (UTC) reply

Hmm. Yeah, probably, because if we don't people will probably just continue to abuse TemplateSubster for the purpose. Anomie 16:20, 2 February 2020 (UTC) reply

Borked?

Not sure what's going on, {{ Japanese name}} is showing "done" but there are still 2k transclusions. I know I should have checked them first, but I had to undelete 15 templates that said they were finished. Primefac ( talk) 20:48, 21 September 2020 (UTC) reply

Same issue happend with {{ User_page_rounded}} a while ago. -- Trialpears ( talk) 21:03, 21 September 2020 (UTC) reply
Ping to Anomie, as it doesn't seem to have resolved itself. Primefac ( talk) 20:38, 3 October 2020 (UTC) reply
The bot was confused by the underscores in the template names. Don't fix the listings, I've pushed some code that should have that not confuse the bot so let's see if it works. Anomie 00:08, 4 October 2020 (UTC) reply
Awesome, thanks. Primefac ( talk) 21:47, 6 October 2020 (UTC) reply

@ Redrose64: It might take the bot a few minutes (up to about 5) to notice, but yes. Human editing, possibly assisted by AWB, is probably the best way to get the edits reverted, but be careful not to wind up edit warring. Anomie 15:39, 7 November 2020 (UTC) reply

Infobox Israeli municipality subst may have resulted in missing country= values

I don't have a way to see the history of deleted templates, but it appears possible that {{ Infobox Israel municipality}} used to contain a default value for |subdivision_type=Country and |subdivision_name= that have somehow been lost in substing it following its TFD. See this diff for an example substitution. The article Abu Ghosh, and many similar articles, are in Category:Pages using infobox settlement with missing country. Do you have a way of investigating this potential problem? – Jonesey95 ( talk) 20:13, 15 November 2020 (UTC) reply

It actually didn't have a default value for |subdivision_type=. The original code was
| subdivision_type = {{#if:{{{country|}}} | [[List of sovereign states|Country]]}}
Thus, when I converted it to the subst-able version, it would have only included the country if |country= existed. Primefac ( talk) 21:44, 15 November 2020 (UTC) reply
Did it have a value for |subdivision_name=? Thanks for the response. – Jonesey95 ( talk) 00:16, 16 November 2020 (UTC) reply
Yes, there was a switch statement, but it only triggered if |country= existed. Primefac ( talk) 22:38, 17 November 2020 (UTC) reply

Hello User:Pppery, your terse reply came across as a bit dismissive so I'd just like to ask you if you appreciate feedback? Even if this was some time ago, there's no need for sloppy bot edits being approved. I'm afraid I can't help not seeing this earlier. Have a nice day CapnZapp ( talk) 09:35, 21 April 2021 (UTC) reply
Yeah, you're right I should have worded that reply more clearly. A better way of phrasing that would have been There's nothing AnomieBOT can do about it now, over a year after the bot ran. And this was never AnomieBOT's fault in the first place, but instead the fault of whoever coded the template to be substable and then added it to the autosubst list. * Pppery * it has begun... 13:17, 21 April 2021 (UTC) reply
Given that it was more than a year ago, posting here is probably easier than trying to track down who might have added it to the list, and with the template deleted no real way to see who prepped it for the subst. In other words, not the best location but it's not a bad one. Primefac ( talk) 13:53, 21 April 2021 (UTC) reply

|subst=subst:?

Anomie Does this task add |subst=subst: before substituting like the normal substitution task or not? If not could it do that? I find it to still be useful in some cases to make nicely substitutable templates easier to make. Couldn't find anything when ctrl+f in the code but I also can't read perl. -- Trialpears ( talk) 16:54, 10 January 2023 (UTC) reply

It does indeed do that. The relevant code is in User:AnomieBOT/source/tasks/TemplateSubster/Base.pm. Anomie 02:58, 11 January 2023 (UTC) reply

Template bibleverse-nb

I have just reversed one of the changes made to Peor regarding Numbers 23:28. The previous text linked to the Book of Numbers and then used the bibleverse-nb template to avoid repeating the word "Numbers" when the verse was stated. Thus the previous wording was

mentioned in Numbers 23:28,

whereas the amended wording was

mentioned in Numbers Numbers 23:28,

with Numbers repeated. I assume the same will happen wherever the bibleverse-nb template had been used immediately after the biblical book was named with a link to the article about the book itself. I am not sure whether the bot can spot and resolve this problem or whether the real issue is that there were some merit in retaining bibleverse-nb as a separate template after all? - BobKilcoyne ( talk) 04:46, 11 January 2023 (UTC) reply

@ BobKilcoyne It's not a problem with the bot. It's just me being stupid and missing stuff I really should have spotted while testing. It was a good while since I did stuff like this but it's still not acceptable. I will resolve all these cases shortly. Very sorry for this and thank you for reporting. -- Trialpears ( talk) 04:55, 11 January 2023 (UTC) reply
