Writing autobiography articles

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you.-- McGeddon ( talk) 15:24, 28 June 2009 (UTC) reply

Welcome… among other things…

First of all, welcome to Wikipedia, Mr. Kay! Since I have other things to discuss, I'll leave out the more traditional welcome links, but you can always read a boilerplate version at {{ welcome}}.

I just declined a speedy deletion on your article ( Allen Kay). Since you appear to be the subject, and because you're an (evidently talented :) ) advertiser, I'd just like to point you to Wikipedia's conflict of interest guideline. In short, we'd greatly appreciate it if you'd try not to edit your article too much, especially with anything self-laudatory, since autobiographies generally aren't a good thing for Wikipedia.

You are quite welcome, however, to remove vandalism, libel, unsourced incorrect statements, and all the other obviously inappropriate stuff; we have a special policy on biographies of living persons. :) If there's something where you think that your conflict of interest makes direct editing inappropriate, try posting to the talk page ( Talk:Allen Kay) and asking someone else to make the edit for you (they can judge whether it's appropriate). If no one comes around to such a request for a couple days, then note that below your request and just make the edit.

In the meantime, I'll trim down your userpage a bit: the language in both that and your article is a bit too promotional, and your userpage lacks the encyclopedic value that motivates me against trimming the article. Hopefully this is understandable.

If you need any help, feel free to contact me through my user talk page, using the "talk" link in my signature. Cheers, {{ Nihiltres| talk| edits}} 18:09, 21 August 2009 (UTC) reply
