{{ currentsport}} The Hungarian Championship of Men's Handball 2008-09, also known as NB I, is the 57th season of top-tier handball in Hungary. The league is officially named "Budapest Bank Kézilabda Liga 2008-09" for sponsoring reasons. The season started on 9 September 2008 with Dunaferr SE beating the Csurgói KK, 37–19. The last games will be played on 26 April 2009.

Promotion and relegation

Erste-Békési FKC withdrew their participation in the summer break of last year's season after they declared bankruptcy. The team was put into last place and got all points deducted. The remaining relegation spot was earned by Tatai HAC, who finished the season with a mere 10 points, the remaining relegation spot was earned by Hort SE, who finished the season with a mere 10 points, and the remaining relegation spot was earned by Nyíregyházi KSE, who finished the season with a mere 11 points.

Promotion to the league was granted to the champions of the two NB II divisions. Budapest Bank Kecskeméti KC won the Eastern Division, winners of the Western Division were Csurgói KK.
