These definitions are from
Appendix J, Article 251 and
App J, Article 281. So, Group Rally1 is Category II, which are competition vehicles "Cars built as single examples and destined solely for competition" (even though they are road legal). They have different build structure and include hybrid propulsion not common to the road cars they are designed to look like. Groups Rally2-5 are Category I, series production cars, cars modified from consumer cars. Yes, Group R is being phased out. Essentially, but not exactly, R5, R2 and R1 became Rally2, Rally4 and Rally5. Rally3 is new but was added into the same rules document for Rally4 and Rally5 (details on those articles). Group R's R3 is still permitted for few more years but no new cars will be homologated. Group R-GT will still continue but always had its own ruleset anyway, and is Cat II. Hope that helps.

Also, I forgot, the Speed Record attempts are entirely different Groups and Categories defined in Appendix D. This template is only Appendix J for the various motorsport competitions.
