Saint Senara, Church of Saint Senara, Zennor

Created/expanded by Dr. Blofeld ( talk), Gilderien ( talk). Nominated by Dr. Blofeld ( talk) at 20:42, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Reviewed: War Memorials, Monmouth.
  • Both articles are new enough and long enough at the time of nomination. Church of Saint Senara, Zennor is completely supported by inline citations. Both appear to be neutral enough. All images have appropriate copyright tags. No plagiarism concerns on either article. Hook is properly formatted.
  • Saint Senara is not completely supported by inline citations. Saint Senara references this. I'm not seeing the cornish legend there? The church source is this which appears to be a message board. This source suggests a local fishermen she fell in love with? This source supports the hook adequately. The sourcing issues need to be resolved but should be good to go once that is done. -- LauraHale ( talk) 04:07, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
Proposed alt does not work for Saint Senara because the article does not state she is Cornish, rather "Senara was reputedly a Breton princess". Article needs to state she is Cornish for any hook regarding her being Cornish to pass. (And be supported by inline citations that verify this to be true.) -- LauraHale ( talk)

Yeah she was from Breton and her hubbie pushed her off a cliff and she washed up on Cornwall. But it is Cornish legend she is associated with and is considered a Cornish saint. I'll let Gilderien deal with this one!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:18, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

  • May I point out that the words "cornish saint" here do not mean that she herself was cornish, but rather that she is venerated as a saint in cornwall.-- Gilderien Chat| List of good deeds 17:10, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Possibility I'm miss reading things. The article box says she is venerated in Cornwall. Where does it say this in the article with a citation? -- LauraHale ( talk) 02:44, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
Ah, sorry, I had forgotten to add a citation for this (in the lede). In the book "The Z to Z of great britain", it states several facts (or agreed-upon legends) which support this, for example "at Cornwall to found a church and Senar - later Zennor - is born. Azenor goes on to become St Senara, presumably attaining sainthood for etc.", "St Senara, who bestowed her name upon the village", and "Zennor is the modern spelling of Senar, a name given in honour of St Senara". Are these strong enough support statements for me to cite this book?-- Gilderien Chat| List of good deeds 12:52, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
Can you write the lead in a better summary style? Since the text body doesn't say she was venerated, leave this out of the lead? Then propose an alternative hook clearly based on the article? I've not responded to this because I'm just not certain at this point what to do as my knowledge of venerated that is supported by the Wikipedia article about it does not appear in the article. (No where does it discuss canonization for example that justifies the veneration, and I would think that should be separate from the biography part as the miracles tend to need to come after the saint passes on.) -- LauraHale ( talk) 10:55, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
I will re-write the lead, but does the first hook work?-- Gilderien Chat| List of good deeds 20:38, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Sorry about being a pain in the ass about things. It honestly isn't my goal. After thinking about it overnight, I probably over thought myself into a corner and ooops. :( Fall out is you. :( -- LauraHale ( talk) 20:43, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
Changes made to lead to address concerns and should be fine to go at this point. Sorry about the delays. :( -- LauraHale ( talk) 20:50, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
