WP:DYK#Cited hook, the reference should occur no later than the end of the sentence where the hook is mentioned. This is as easy as copying over the relevant reference, or even a punctuation change.
Epicgenius, thanks for the quick review. Can I just check the requirement here - I generally source stuff within the body of the article, and then write an unsourced lead. Would you be satisfied if I move the refs around within, or are you asking me to add a source to the lead?

Girth Summit: To clarify, a reference is not required within the lead. I am satisfied with moving the refs in the body.
