Newness requirement satisfied by GA promotion on 10/15. Article is long enough, makes good use of citations, and is generally well written. After reviewing Earwig results, I see no problems with copyvio/plagiarism. The proposed hook is under 200 characters. The cited book source is off-line, so the accuracy (of an apparently non-controversial fact) is accepted in good faith. The hook isn't a "10" but it's sufficiently interesting ... and this article is fine work that warrants being featured on the Main Page. Image has PD license, and QPQ obligation has been satisfied.
