An Australian Aboriginal person competing with the world's best is notable. Many people do not know about the popularity of the sport among Aboriginal wimmin.

Comment - I'm not sure that "trying" is the best choice, as it implies that she wants it but not that she may earn it. "Vying" is the word the source uses, also "competing" or "eligible" are viable replacements. Or replace "is trying to represent" with "may possibly represent", or "is in competition to represent".
