The article is fine, but the hook does not sound interesting. I think a hook contrasting the fact that he didn't speak English in high school, but then earned a Ph.D. from Emery, would be more interesting. Another, perhaps more interesting fact is that he went to school barefoot because he couldn't afford to buy shoes, according to the youth.cn source. -

ALT1 ... that Chinese immunologist Shu Hongbing did not speak English when he entered senior high school, but later earned a Ph.D. from
Emory University?
ALT2 ... that Chinese immunologist Shu Hongbing went to school barefoot because he could not afford to buy shoes?
New enough, long enough, and well referenced. Both hooks are verified with inline refs, but I slightly prefer ALT2. No copyvio issues. Good to go. -
