Alt 1: ... that when Javare Gowda was reappointed vice chancellor of
Mysore University, the governor requested "please try to remember that when you criticize the government, do so mildly"?
5x expanded by

: DYK Check reports "Article has not been created or expanded 5x or promoted to Good Article within the past 10 days (14 days)." It was created February 7, 2010. Gowda died 30 May 2016, so is not BLP. When Dharmadhyasksha began editing on June 3, the length was 6,985 bytes; it is now 10,000 bytes, that is, not double.
If I understand the rules correctly, the article does not qualify.

Actually the article went from 858 bytes of prose to 5,173, so it was 5x expanded.

In that case: the article is well written and informative, the hook is intriguing, correct in length, and specifically sourced.
I would suggest, however, 1) that Alt 1 is closer to the source 2)
Dharmadhyaksha explain in the first sentence in the lead the meaning of "Kannada"ch (

Yes,
Dharmadhyaksha, I happen to know that, but the lead should explain clearly so that less informed readers will know. The explanation should include what country he was a citizen. I learned a lot from the article, by the way, and thank you for writing it!

CWH: as a prep promoter, I am totally unable to follow this thread. Why is the approval tick up next to the hook? Please provide a review that explicitly confirms that the
five main DYK criteria have been met, and place your approval next to that, at the bottom of the thread. Thank you,

The article is new enough, long enough, within policy; QPQ fine; the original hook is short enough and sourced, tho I suggest Alt1 would be better.
