... that Bronx Park, one of New York City's largest parks, was created in 1888 to preserve lands that would soon become part of New York City? Sources: (1) Jackson, Kenneth T., ed. (1995), The Encyclopedia of New York City, p. 166 (2) According to
NYC Parks it is 718 acres which would make it the seventh (or eighth) largest park in New York City. The status of
Freshkills Park is disputed.
ALT1:... that Bronx Park, one of New York City's largest parks, was intended as the centerpiece of a system of parks within
the Bronx? Source: Gonzalez, Evelyn (2004). The Bronx, p. 48.

Interesting park, on excellent sources, no copyvio obvious. - Of the hooks, I like ALT1 best. I took the liberty to link The Bronx, because while New York is known, The Bronx may be known less. How about an image?? I'd understand mentioning Bronx Zoo in a hook, also pretty well known. (I was there!) - Suggestions for the article: the map on the left sandwiches the text, and the numbers are very small, - not really helpful unless you find a better position in the article. I'd prefer the bridge

@
Gerda Arendt: Thanks for the review. I've proposed ALT3 above, though it may not be as interesting. I also removed the map as unnecessary, since there's already an interactive map in the infobox.

Looking at how often my hooks are criticised (see WP:DYK just today), I'm probabably the last person to talk about hook interest. You should't place it above my approval ;) - However, I confirm that it's approved, and I even prefer it. All others are also approved just in case a promoter thinks differently. --

I'm offering a shortened version of ALT3 for consideration:
