Length, date, and hook verified; no signs of copyright violation. I'm inclined to pass this, but I see some small issues with the referencing. The link to Ely's letter, "Who Voted for Me", seems to lead to the wrong place. The last sentence in the body needs a reference. And I think it would be preferable to put a separate reference right after the "tired of bitching and moaning" quotation, especially because the source given at the end of the sentence censors the word "bitching".

I've addressed these issues except for the link to the letter. For me, it leads to the letter. Where does it go for you?--

Ah, it does lead to the letter; my browser just downloaded it as a PDF and left a blank screen in the browser window.
Length, date, hook, and all. Normally hooks aren't supposed to derogate living people, but because Ely himself has repeatedly made the derogatory statement, I think it would be unreasonable to object. (In Wikipedia-speak, I think invoking
WP:Ignore all rules is justified in this case.)
