ALT1:... that a monastic chronicle said of Alan de Neville (d.
c. 1176) that he "most evilly vexed the various provinces throughout England with countless and unaccustomed persecutions"?

Article new enough, long enough, and fully referenced; I like the first hook, which is short enough, certainly catchy, and cited to offline source. Cheers,
