Would Hammerstein qualify as a Librettist? -- BillCook, 11 May 2008
I've made a minor correction regarding the lights being turned off on Broadway for one minute upon his death, not merely dimmed. A minor point, but it more accurately reflects reality based not only on the source article, but other sources. cswpride ( talk) 13:41, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
Although the pronunciation of Hammerstein's surname is often anglicized, to /ˈhæmərstiːn/ HAM-ər-steen, isn't it perpetuating that mispronunciation when Hammerstein himself kept a more German pronunciation of the vowels, /ˈhæmərstaɪn/ HAM-ər-stine. When a man pronounces his name a certain way and all of his contemporaries also pronounce it that way why do we validate the mispronunciation of his name by saying "Hammerstein's surname is often anglicized, to /ˈhæmərstiːn/ HAM-ər-steen?" The article says: "His grandfather was Polish-born German theatre impresario Oscar Hammerstein I." I don't think that's correct, as his grandfather was born in Prussia in a region that would not be polish until almost a hundred years later. The article about his grandfather also does not mention a Polish heritage anywhere. 87.166.32.246 ( talk) 20:54, 29 May 2016 (UTC)
