Disambiguation schools

@ Kstern: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Common_outcomes#Schools states that "Most elementary (primary) and middle schools that don't source a clear claim to notability usually get merged or redirected to the school district authority that operates them (generally the case in North America) or the lowest level locality (elsewhere or where there is no governing body)."

However, there are cases where multiple schools have the same name. Those should be disambiguation links linking to school districts (where American/Canadian non-notable school names are supposed to target to). No NN elementary schools should have redlinks, though.

Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Deciding_to_disambiguate states "Disambiguation is required whenever, for a given word or phrase on which a reader might search, there is more than one existing Wikipedia article to which that word or phrase might be expected to lead." If ABC Elementary could refer to more than one elementary school, the page should DAB only to school districts.

The problem is that, as you pointed out, most elementary schools have no claim to notability. So we end up with a disambiguation page for a bunch of non-notable topics that are all either redirects or red links. This goes against the principle of disambiguation pages, in particular disambiguating articles (not redirects) with the same or similar names. If there were two schools with the same name and both were notable topics with articles, a disambiguation page would make sense. Kstern ( talk) 23:19, 4 April 2024 (UTC) reply
The issue is not only whether the schools have notability or not, but what to do about the lack of notability. The Common outcomes page explicitly says to redirect, not leave deleted. IMO it doesn't work to say leave "Longfellow Elementary School" deleted when the Common outcomes page would say that the solution to "Longfellow Elementary School (Houston)" or "Longfellow Elementary School (Anytown, USA)" is to have them redirected. There should be disambigs of redirects when A. the common outcomes page says to redirect and B. ambiguity makes multiple redirect targets possible. WhisperToMe ( talk) 03:27, 5 April 2024 (UTC) reply
I removed the PROD and changed the article to look like this article: Houston Elementary School. That makes it clear which topics are notable and which are not. My problem isn't the DAB page as much as it is the unclear level of notability of every topic on it. Also added a couple schools and removed one that doesn't exist anymore.
