I stumbled upon this article while reading up on the previous films, it's a bit bulky with a lot of unneccesary details...and a LOT of repetition. I don't think the deaths of some of the characters in alternate endings should qualify as them officially dying, since the alternates were eventually scrapped for the actual deaths in the films. Because of this, Kim in FD2 should be classified as one of only two survivors to cheat Death in the whole series, Officer Burke being the other one. Yup, I think you may have a point there. But since they are NEITHER MENTIONED or IMPLIED LIVING in the sequels, Kimberly and Burke are listed as deceased until a valuable proof of their existence is shown. --- FD Joshua 22 05:55, 3 April 2012 (UTC) reply

Well first to know, there is no clear, canon indication of whether the two are alive, there are theories about even the non-canon death being false due to the errors, and furthermore what material(e.g. Words of God are often known to contradict themselves) outside the films can be accepted as plausible theory is debatable.

The following is my opinion on this:

As far as what should be accepted as canon, only what is explicitly shown in the original films should be: Mere indications should not count (for example a simple line 'every survivor died' in FD4 doesn't count, not helped by the fact that FD2 was not mentioned or even shown there)

Usually, one person is assumed alive unless proven otherwise or was last known to be in a situation where he had zero chance of surviving. Some may argue that those escaped death once are on Death's list, but technically, isn't everyone? And had the non-canon ending been real, the two would have survived for at least 4 years which is significantly long.

Applying the last confirmed rule to all the characters should be a reasonable solution, or else even those not on the death list should be classified as unknown. In this sense, most of the main characters are last known dead, Kimberly is last known alive, Wendy is last known in an ambiguous scene(=unknown). This should categorise whether the characters are confirmed dead, implied dead in an event but not confirmed, or merely implied that Death was still after them.

There is one detail here though: The scene with the non-canon ending branches from the point when Wendy was to decide whether to read the map of Train 081 or not, meaning that regardless of whether Wendy picks, the newspaper would have been always there. However I personally still lean towards classifying Kimberly as last known alive since what could be regarded as canon is only the original film.

The current wiki page has an inconsistency in that Kimberly is classified as deceased while Wendy is classified as unknown. I'm temporarily solving the problem by reverting Kimberly to alive; if you have a reason why they(along with Thomas and others) should both be classified as deceased feel free to state your opinions on the discuss page.
