The premise that the Taliban/IEA and the United States began unofficial relations on August 15 is unsourced, and certainly wrong. They have had unofficial relations for years, not least in the Doha Agreement (2020). The idea that the United States does not recognize the country is also untrue, they do not recognize the Taliban as the official government of Afghanistan, they however have never removed recognition of Afghanistan as a country. Looking through the August 27 sources I can access, none seem to be about IEA-US relations. CMD ( talk) 14:41, 28 August 2021 (UTC) reply

You said "United States does not recognize the country is also untrue". That source directly says they don't recognize them yet. Also, the August 15th is implied because that is when the Fall of Kabul happened. In a way, the 15th would be considered common knowledge in my opinion and doesn't need a source. I don't question the other tag about additional verification, but I do highly question that original research tag. The source notes they don't recognize it as a government, the United States has not changed recognition of Afghanistan as a country. The date of the 15th is wrong, as I noted a specific example of above. CMD ( talk) 15:23, 28 August 2021 (UTC) reply

OK, how about this compromise. If you believe the lead is wrong, fix it and add the information into the article to make it right. The argument you used above I believe is wrong because IEA doesn't appear in the Doha Agreement (2020). But I don't want to debate it anymore. Just fix the article to make it right. Due to this compromise, I am removing the OR tag. If you want to add it back, I won't remove it, but I will seek a dispute resolution 3rd party editor to help out. I do not have a source to hand on the earliest date where the United States had some sort of diplomatic relationship to the Taliban, so I am unable to fix that issue myself. Nor do I have any sources that link the various events cited to overall relations. I will fix the government mention per the Dawn source, but given the other issues I am restoring the tag.
