Was it December 9 or was it December 10? Keep in mind that even if it was still December 9 in the U.S., it was already December 10 in Qatar which is where he died, and therefore his date of death should be listed as December 10, 2022. I'll let you guys fight it out. The following sources state that it was on Saturday:
https://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id/35221443/american-soccer-journalist-grant-wahl-dies-48-qatar https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-12-10/soccer-writer-grant-wahl-dies-at-world-cup-match-in-qatar 24.246.14.216 ( talk) 14:51, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
No. He died on December 9, not 10 Eternal son ( talk) 01:09, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
There is a lot of conflicting information about Wahl's actual exact birth date. I'm pretty confident that I've finally got it correct – December 2, 1973 – so I'm going to document why I think this. Some sources at the time of his death made it sound like his birthday was December 7. He did say that he celebrated his birthday with his friends on December 7 this year, but they were celebrating it late. He wrote an article on his website on December 2 saying it was his birthday (the website says it was published on December 1, but it's a timezone issue -- the page's source code says it was published at 2022-12-02T00:12:36+00:00, which in Qatar time is 3:12 am on December 2). The article is paywalled, but according to the text that appears when you find the article in Google Search, the article includes the text "And it's my birthday today. Never thought I'd spend a birthday at the World Cup, but here we are. Have a good evening!"
A lot of sources say that he died at age 48 and/or that he was born in 1974. I think this might have originated with a quote from his agent Tim Scanlan, but it is incorrect. CBS originally published that he died at 48 but later corrected their article to say 49 (there's a correction note at the bottom). Celine Gounder (Wahl's wife) also tweeted that he died at 49. And to settle any doubt, Wahl himself tweeted on December 2, 2017 that he was turning 44, which means he must have been born in 1973. IagoQnsi ( talk) 00:59, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
