Supposedly the name comes from al-‘uðrah "the maidenhead". But since there's no such word in my Arabic dictionary, I added the Arabic for the etymology given by this article. kwami 01:57, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Scholar and name expert Guy Ottewell says Aludra is derived from al-'Udhrah, "the maidenhead". Mytg8 16:05, 26 September 2006 (UTC) reply
