It'd be nice to have a by-lineage listing ... after all, you can grep for alphabeticals ... this is mostly constructed from http://pennock.ws/surnames/fam/fam20058.html ... i've linked only those on the main page or married cousins ... quite the inbreeding
All I know of John Eleuthère du Pont is his mother Jean Liseter Austin du Pont (of Liseter farm/hall and a library at UPenn). Which one did she marry? 142.177.127.140 04:41, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I have moved the comments here as you suggest. I am going to rebuild the listing, but dumb it down by including only minimal genealogical information and only those lines directly relevant to notable figures. Perhaps that will achieve all of our intent. stilltim 01:23, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
The present text is almost impossilbe to follow. I would prefer the indented form on the top of this page; it might alleviate JW1805's concerns if, for example, Alfred I. Dupont's seven non-notable children were reduced from:

I like the article though. Septentrionalis 05:01, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
Could somebody check this please, because at the moment William DuPont Jnr. is referred to as having been born in 1896 and then fathered himself, having previously fathered his brother Marion DuPont two years earlier. I think Mary Lammot DuPont was married to William DuPont Snr. (judging by ages). Are William DuPont Jnr. and his wife and children (whoever they actually are) notable? 172.215.41.204 12:49, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Eleuthère Irénée du Pont married Sophie Madeleine Dalmas (1775-1828) in 1791 and had the following children: Sophie Madeleine du Pont (1810-1888), married Samuel Francis du Pont, no children.
Victor Marie du Pont married Gabrielle Joséphine de la Fite de Pelleport and had the following children: Samuel Francis du Pont (1803-1865), married Sophie Madeleine du Pont, no children.
They were cousins? Do I read this correct? Marrying your cousin is perfectly fine in my country, and Im sure it was during this time, but as it certainly would be relevant to the article, was there any occurances of semi- or incestual relationships resulting in children?
Irénée du Pont married Irene Sophie du Pont (sister of Alexis Felix du Pont). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1201SLD ( talk • contribs) 00:37, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

Way to go wikipedia. Just a confusing and needless family tree? No other information as to why the family is notable? Not even one link to the du Pont chemical company? There are numerous sources, even on the internet, about the activities and notability of the family. Just more evidence that wikipedia is merely a dumping ground of useless information policed by shut in aspergers patients with nothing better to do but organize articles about professional wrestling or the simpsons.
This article does not belong here. Does anyone know how to delete it? if so, DO SO.
Perhaps it should be noted that "du Pont" is not standard French capitalization - when a name includes Le/La/Les or a contraction thereof it is typically capitalized - checking the Library of Congress name authority files, it looks like when the family emigrated later members started using a minuscule "D" - regardless, the whole section needs a source.
