Blatant pseudoscience. The authors of the paper work for the THINCS organization. The same authors published another review which has been discredited [1], [2], [3]. They basically argue that elderly people with lower LDL-c have an increased mortality risk. This isn't a controversial finding it is well known, it's because the elderly people studied have increased risk of chronic disease like cancer and this is known to lower cholesterol. It is a case of reverse causality. It is not evidence that high LDL-c is beneficial for health. There is strong evidence that LDL-c causes cardiovascular disease [4].
